I wonder if this is a Fitch Fight?
Winner gets a title shot…or do they???
of course, if so, i would expect it after JDS.
Yeah they'd be on the shelf for awhile
Still if Carwin wins they may want him to cool his heels and wait his turn for a title shot.

I say
Winner of this fight gets the loser of Brock/ Cain.
To be honest though, stylistically, this fight is Carwin’s to lose. Roy has good boxing, but nowhere near the power Shane has; every second he stands there trading is a craps shoot.
Roy’s good in the clinch, but nowhere near as strong, and we’ve seen how destructive Shane can be with dirty boxing in the clinch. He literally just brings up his fist, bounces up on his toes, and scrambles brain cells.
Finally, Roy’s good on the ground, but he’s really only dangerous from the top, and he’s not gonna be able to take Carwin down. I also doubt he’ll be able to sweep him, and you DON’T want Shane on top of you.
All in all, Big Country’s only real hope is to try and survive, stall, make Carwin chase him until he (hopefully) gasses. Maybe try and play a counterstriking game. Threaten with the takedown just to give Shane something to think about. As long as Shane doesn’t lay a giant egg punch himself out, it’s his fight to lose.

That could have Roy getting a title shot ahead of JDS
Who soundly beat him. JDS is next in line, and given his style I don’t think Dana will screw him out of his shot.

I think it also depends on the outcome of the title fight.
If Cain wins, I could see them jumping ahead with Carwin/Lesnar II.
Anyone remember the skit on SNL with Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley trying out to be chippendale dancers? This matchup kinda reminds me of that. Looks wise, Nelson should be burger king taste tester, but hes an AMAZING dancer…i mean fighter.

Good fight to sign
Both are at the same place career wise.
Major title implications for the winner.

Carwin wins by murder….
This fight will test his “cardio” though when he doesn’t KO Roy with the first onslaught.
It’s almost funny when one looks at the two competitors and realizes Nelson has thus far exhibited greater cardio than Carwin.
Nelson doesnt have a less efficient (possibly artificially enlarged) heart.
Nelson is an old skool badass.
Nelson is one of my very favorites since the A.A fight. He impressed me in defeat.

I want to say
Nelson outlasts Carwin’s cardio and grinds out a decision or maybe even a 2nd/3rd round stoppage.
Then again, Carwin might just knock him out in the first minute.
Roy by TKO, 2nd Round. Yuck.
CAGO WHY SOGS CAGO WHY SOGSSSS
After seeing the shots that Nelson shrugged off in the JDS fight
I don’t think he’ll wilt under Shane’s initial barrage. In fact, I think Nelson is a much better stand-up fighter than Carwin in every area except power, which, obviously, is a pretty important area.
Unless Carwin completely craps out again, I’ll say Carwin TKO Rd. 2.

Roy got dominated early on, but
He impressed the hell out of me with his chin and his heart.

don't like it
would rather see nelson fight mir.
frankly i see carwin destroying nelson in the first round. and i like neslon and don’t like carwin. but who knows?
couldn't have said it any better
i’ve been hoping that this fight wouldn’t come to fruition. would much rather see carwin/barry and mir/nelson.
Love me some Roy
And despise me some Carwin, but I see no realistic path to victory for Roy here…

Survive three minutes and then beat the piss out of a totally gassed Carwin.
If Nelson could survive 15 minutes of bombardment from Dos Santos, he can make it three minutes with Carwin. After that initial onslaught is over, the fight is Nelson’s to lose.
Surely even one as seemingly hard headed as Carwin
Learned something from the Lesnar fight and has been training appropriately…then again…it is Shane…

I don’t think training was his problem.
I’m sure the Jackson/Grudge coaches put him through an appropriate amount of cardio conditioning during his training for the Lesnar fight. Carwin’s problem is that (1) he is probably naturally predisposed for poor cardio and (2) he wigged out when he dropped Lesnar and completely emptied his gas tank flailing wildly rather than taking his time and picking his shots. I’m not sure that those problems can be addressed in the span of one training camp. He might go from pathetic cardio to below-average cardio, but I sincerely doubt his cardio problems will just disappear.
I don't think they will
Disappear, and he won’t turn into Cain overnight, but surely he added much more fight specific cardio training this time around, and perhaps learned his listen about rushing in for the kill.

I think part of it is a pace thing for Carwin. If he can calm down he may be able to control his cardio a little better.
What has a face, but no head and has hands, but no arms?
If you can answer this you can be the new LSU football coach.
I’ve been saying the same thing about Mark Coleman for a decade.
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to ‘unlearn’ the pace that you have used your entire athletic career. Guys with pacing problems very rarely learn how to ratchet down while in the heat of competition. They almost always lapse into the same bad habits once the adrenaline starts flowing.
Ha! Right!
In carwin’s case though, this is the first time he’s really had an issue with getting ahead of himself iirc.

It’s the first time he has had a chance to get ahead of himself.
He’s fought more than three minutes once in his career and gassed horribly in the one fight that he did.
Maybe Roy
Will be the test case, as I don’t see him going down easily.

Things I'm Looking Forward To In This Fight
-How Nelson will handle getting smacked around by Carwins’ flesh-lunchboxes. If Dos Santos give him fits, it might be a very short night for Nelson.
-How Carwin intends to breathe when trapped under the moon belly. This isn’t as likely since Nelson couldn’t takedown Dos Santos and Carwin could defend against Lesnars’ takedowns, but if it does end up there…Carwin stands a good chance of suffocation.
-Dana White bringing up how they hate each other. The hype for this fight is going to include screenshots of twitter, for better or worse.
IIRC, before he came over to the UFC, didn’t Nelson criticize some of the UFC’s heavyweights as just being products of the UFC hype machine? I seem to remember him definitely saying Gonzaga and Vera didn’t deserve the ranking they used to have. I’m not sure if Carwin was one of those he may have called out as well.
To your first point...
While I’d give an edge to Carwin over JDS in pure punching power, I think JDS has better hand speed and significantly better technique. So while it’s reasonable to question whether Nelson can take the same kind of shots he did from JDS from Carwin, it’s also reasonable to question whether Carwin can land with the same frequency and accuracy that JDS did.

Point Taken
But if Nelson comes at Carwin with his hands covering his head like he did with Dos Santos, then he’ll be knocked out before Carwins’ cardio can be a problem.
Nelson is going to have to employ a different method of striking defense here if he wants to win/survive.
Obesity hypoventilation syndrome (also known as Pickwickian syndrome) is a condition in which severely overweight people fail to breathe rapidly enough or deeply enough, resulting in low blood oxygen levels and high blood carbon dioxide (CO2) levels.
I did not know that…and it sounds horrible, like drowning.
Death is the Road to Awe
nice picture.
No scientific proof on any of it.
Or proof that Carwin is shooting up.

Oh come on
Carwin is your classic juicer. Or was, who knows nowadays. Do you need hard data to know everything? No, because some things are obvious, combined with his involvement with that Dr., and the way he acted about the news, is pretty damning. So maybe I don’t know what the Civil War was, or who invented the helicopter even though I own one, but I did beat The Legend of Zelda before I could walk.
Don't gain the world and lose your soul, wisdom is better than silver or gold.
Yep, had a feeling it would turn out to be Carwin/Nelson...
Just made the most sense. Both are coming off losses, but they’re losses to the current champ and the next contender, so a win here probably keeps the victor in contention, or at least close to it.

Winner gets title eliminator fight?
No way Carwin gets another shot at the title if he wins. He’ll need at least 1 more after Roy.
If Roy wins, he probably should get another fight as well, and he’ll need one if he doesnt want to wait around until after JDS gets his shot. Roy vs Mir if he beats Carwin would secure his title shot.
I'm with you Big Country!
but remember to bring your AK47 with you when hit the Octagon.
Hopefully, CarWindow will have been scared off the roids by the recent controversy (or by the lactic acidosis during the Les Nar fight) and so will be smaller and a little more manageable, in which case – in a fisitic trade off, Big Country will stand more of a chance (i.e. more than not much)… if he does pull it off though it would have to rank as a major upset…
'if you don't have humility as a fighter, fighting will bring humility to you...'
Roy by backpedaling jabs for one round and Carwin failing to answer the bell for rd 2.
"Now you see that evil will always triumph, because good is dumb."
it's going to be interesting to see whether carwin is off roids and thus smaller looking in this fight
Go big red!
What makes you think Carwin was on roids for his last fight?
I’m not going to argue that he likely used them at some point in his career (based on the evidence that he purchased them in 2006), but I don’t see any evidence that points to him using in his last fight. Honestly, Carwin has already shrunk a ton versus the size he was at early in his MMA career (he used to be a 310 pound SHW). IMO, he gave up the ’roids when he decided to move down to HW.
I agree
Don’t like carwin. At all. But he came into the Wellisch fight at 252 IIRC, and has slowly put mass on over the last few years.
Its possible, but I’d say unlikely at this point imo.

Will win this.
How I do not know, but he will.
Then he will eat burger king and carwin will tell us about how he has super lactic acidosis

Can't help but feel like the UFC is rushing Nelson.
Either way, Nelson via better cardio
Both fighters coming off tough losses
It will be interesting to see how they bounce back. Carwin has to be the heavy favorite here. Nelson doesn’t have the reach to pot-shot, the power to trade, nor the wrestling to force a ground war.
Carwin should be much more confident, so he won’t freak out trying to finish and blow all his cardio.
I consider myself a softcore fan.
And so the slow fade of Carwin begins.
If this is a #1 contender match for the winner of Brocktoberfest and JDS I think we might actually see Dana’s head explode if that turns out to be a rematch of JDS/Nelson.
I think Nelson wins this, which is a good thing for UFC. It brings back relevance to TUF. You have a great Everyman gunning for the title, and that Everyman defeats the inflated, alleged Steroid charlatan with his own chemical enhancements of BK burgers. (do you know what they put in that shit?)
For Carwin, it begins the slow fade as he take over for Gabe Gonzaga as the power gatekeeper.

Carwin will jail rape Roy due to better boxing and way better wrestling
