I could see Baroni pulling a win off here although the only thing I remember of Tavares is him getting soccer kicked in the face.
I remember him being very young and very talented.
I think his has potential to stick around and maybe be the best fighter to come out of that season.
They got Baroni....
to fuck with Strikforce. XC was building him up to be something, what with the brawling and showmanship. He was basically signed because the UFC didnt want Strikforce to ride his XC ‘fame’.
Either way from here on out we’ll be seeing Baroni blogs on how hes changed everything and how hes taking his career seriously…. and then he gasses midway through round 1.
Strikeforce cut him after his loss to Riggs in Spring of 09’.

I think that’s what Strikeforce would like you to believe; it’s the ‘I dumbed him, he didn’t dump me’ thing.
No, he was under contract and they cut him after the loss:

Apparently they were pulling a Werdum: they thought they were overpaying him and asked him to take a paycut.

I can’t wait to see the NYBA back in the octagon. He’s coming with some nyquil in his fists, going to put Tavares to sleep.

I think that Brad Tavares could really turn out to be a prospect to watch out for. He’s still young, and he is improving. Also, I thought that he had a good fight against Court McGee on TUF 11. The UFC would do well in getting Brad Tavares type prospects on TUF in that he was still young, doesn’t have too many fights, but has the ability to improve tremendously. On every season of TUF, you get some fighters that have been fighting for a while and look to be peaking or have already reached their peak in their abilities.

I've been thinking this as well
Tavares definately seems like the best prospect from that season, and i think he will have the best career of all the guys. The best fighters on that season were probably Nick Ring and Kyle Noke (even though he had that loss to McCray)
I think about it like this, and it makes sense to me but may not make sense to others. Court McGee had 12 professional fights (not including the TUF fights) before fighting Tavares on TUF. Tavares only had 5 professional fights coming into TUF, which is half of Court’s. When they fought, it was more-or-less equal in skill with Court just having a slight edge over Tavares. Tavares is younger than Court, and only had half the amount of fights he has had, yet his skill level is close to or just as good as Court’s. Being younger and at that skill level already on TUF, his potential is pretty high in my opinion (of course, I am a fan of Brad Tavares, so I am biased). Of course, Tavares could fizzle out like so many others have as well.

Brad Tavares took a soccer kick better than most guys take punches.
I hope Phil has his gas tank full. I’d like to see him perform well. At least one more time, just for the sake of his sanity. He’s got the tools to pull off some wins on the lower end of the division. He just has to be able to fight hard longer than 5 minutes.
We haven’t seen or heard anything from Tavares in a while. He had some pretty decent striking and TD defense, a solid chin and a lot of all-around natural talent. He’s only 22 or 23 so he may have taken a significant leap forward in his progression. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him come out with sharper hands and more technical grappling game. Tavares may also be more physically developed. He was a small, soft 185. With his young age, recent history of obesity and improved training and diet, he may have gained a substantial amount of strength and/or muscle mass.

The UFC doesn't usually feed the TUF winners such obvious cans.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.
Am I reading this right?
Frankie Edgar is the underdog?
"You stick a microphone in a guy's face and he calls out anybody but the champion, and Joe Silva should fax him a pink slip right then." -- Chael Sonnen.
correct
2nd title defense, and an underdog both times. Frankie gets no love from the betting public due to his baby face, elusive style vs. Penn, and the fact that Maynard beat him previously.
I consider myself a softcore fan.
the fact that Maynard beat him previously.
