I know right....

I love these videos….. the Reem looks like a badass in them. I mean he is a badass… but they make him that much more bad ass.

Did someone say bad ass?

I suspect his signing

Preceded them adding that clause, but I can’t say for certain.

Anyone with any actual information about this?

by The American Ronin on Oct 1, 2010 11:53 AM EDT up reply actions

Strikeforce never had a clause before

It was pretty much a 1-fight deal due to the lack of Heavies for him to fight at that time. They instilled a clause when he signed the contract when he was supposed to fight Werdum.

If you are certain of that...

Then damn! Although I agree there are several fights I’d like to see first before coming to the UFC as well, but I’m beginning to wonder if we will ever get most of them…

He's Not American

So there is no desire for him to impress, his gym and country revere K-1 so he wants to be like his people and dominate there. I think if he wins the GP he will be closer to being in the UFC.

When he was kicking those bags I was like … DAMN

Good point about his desire for K-1. Personally I think his desire to face Fedor has probably waned after he lost to Werdum who was widely seen as something of a lay-up for Fedor.

He might be closer to the UFC than we think…first fight – Overeem – JDS or Overeem – Carwin!

by The American Ronin on Oct 1, 2010 12:08 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree

Some were arguing recently that their top-5 and the UFC’s top-5 are essentially equivalent…I agree:
Overeem, Fedor, Barnett, Werdum, Bigfoot = Lesnar, Cain, JDS, Carwin, Mir

Brock, Cain, JDS are way better than Bigfoot and Werdum so much so that UFC still has the edge. I will agree that Overeem, Barnett (when clean), and Fedor are amazing talents.

I only ask that you don’t include Mir, Carwin, Bigfoot, and Werdum because they are not consistent or dynamic heavy weights.

I was simply taking top-5 vs. top-5

Mir and perhaps Bigfoot are definitely a big step down from the others, but Werdum is close enough to count and carwin could still drop anyone on any given day. Out of that group, he is still the most likely to beat Lesnar imo.

Hes not American, and you are not Dutch

His gym and those that follow K1 have respect for K1WGP, but besides that, no one in the netherlands knows whta the fuck K1 is, probably less than in the US (since Netherlands is such a small country)

He’s said the things I said himself. Alistair said that in the Netherlands and Europe K-1 is more known than the UFC so I will go with what a dutchman has said over you.

So let me get this straight...

The size of the country determines how much they know about K-1? So people from India must know eeeeeeeeeveeeerythiiiiiiing about K-1?

by Pahuus on Oct 1, 2010 2:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm Dutch so i will explain it all to you!

Dutch muay thai is in the Netherlands since the early 70’s but MMA is pretty new in Holland.
Bas Rutten is one of our pioneers in MMA and now with Alistair it will become more mainstream.
Most people in Holland didn’t knew anything about MMA since it was on television last year with Kimbo Slice. haha
Some people still think the UFC is MMA.
They never heard of Strikeforce, WEC, Bellator etc.

In the Netherlands we ALL know what K-1 is on the other hand, that for sure.
Maybe you don’t know, but the Netherlands is the BEST COUNTRY IN KICKBOXING, NO DOUBT!
WE RULE K-1!

Please nbs, look at this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_K-1_champions
And you think we dont know anything about K-1?
Out of the 17 WGP’s K-1, 14 times it was a winner from the Netherlands.

Please learn something about our Dutch Muay Thay, you need to see our ‘Diamond’ Ramon Dekkers.
He’s a 8 x World Champion!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ-KL6-TVEE&feature=related
Cor Hemmers was his trainer, now he the trainer of Alistair!

Kickboxing and Muay Thai is in our blood, but MMA is starting to explode soon.
The chance a dutchman wins the K-1 again is 100%!!
SO YES, WE KNOW K-1 VERY WELL IN HOLLAND. (The Netherlands)

It disappoints me when some vocal people in cyberspace hide behind a pseudonym and make malicious and baseless attacks against athletes that have never failed a screen for banned substances. These keyboard toxicologists think that they can merely look at an athlete and "know" that so-and-so is a "juicer." There is a term for that. It's called "delusions of grandeur," and medication may help. (Dr. Johnny Benjamin)

So its safe to say Overeem would gain far more fame at home by being K-1 champ than by being an MMA champ, even if it were in the UFC?

To be honest...

Yes!
Because we all know Peter Aerts, Semmy Schilt, Remy Bonjasky, Ernesto Hoost, they are legends.
Ramon Dekkers is a legend as well, man that guy was my favorite fighter when i was younger.

Also Badr Hari is popular in Holland, he’s actually dutchman also, but because of his double nationality (what is possible in Holland) he fights for Marocco.

I know there are not much dutch fans on bloodyelbow, but it makes me proud you Americans are starting to like Alistair. He’s got that typical dutch mentality, he will do it step for step and try to win his fans for him.
I think he does a great job by making this video’s for you guys, i saw people change their point of views.
1 year ago you only saw, Alistair = Steroids and that sucks.
After Sonnen we know you don’t have to be big, but please let’s leave that discussion.

Mark my words, if he wins the K-1, he will soon be fighting in the UFC, he wants it all!
After the Carwin fight i am sure he can handle Lesnar.

Soon you will see more Dutch MMA fighters, it is changing in Holland, that’s a good thing!

Love these documentary series! They’re very well made, and gives you a good inside look on The Reem and his life and training and stuff. It’s helped make me an even bigger fan of his.

Definitely hoping for him to go destroy tomorrow! Looking forward to the event! WAR UBEREEM!

With a green filter....

Alistair probably would look like ‘The Hulk’! hahaha

You just made my day!

I am going to print this and drive it to Golden Glory – Breda, that’s where Alistair trains.
Hope they don’t kill me for that!

You know what I found funny?

Look on the sleeve of Alistair’s shirt as he walks along that main street in Pattaya.

It says “M-1 Global”.
