Renzo Gracie comments on Rashad's black belt:
"It was a recognition from Rolles that Rashad should compete in the highest categories of gi-less grappling competitions. In the Gi-less World Championships for example you cannot compete in the Blackbelt division no matter how long you've been grappling unless a certified instructor gives you a belt for that division. Can I say that Rashad has worked his way up in the correct belt order with a gi? Of course not and I don't think as a pro fighter he will be doing gi tournaments anytime soon. I differentiate between gi and gi-less and apparently Rolles found him ready for the belt in gi-less. I don't think you should give someone a belt in a locker room. Not sure if that was Rolles' idea."

Rolles doesn’t seem like a stickler for ceremony.

the individual Eating Clubs. yes, they’re as pretentious as they sound. Eating Clubs are where about 70% of undergrads take their meals. Half are sign-in, half are “bicker” (the select members). They’re basically glorified frats, since Woodrow Wilson banned frats back in the day. each weekend the clubs open up to all students, except the bicker clubs which give their members passes to hand out. dancefloors, bands, flowing kegs and what not. on lawnparties, all clubs are open to everyone
so each club gets it’s own act, except the Quad club. Quad is sort of the joke on campus, so the undergrad student gov’t partners with them and they hire one big act, i.e. Lupe Fiasco last year

I don't like this
Reminds me a little bit of another situation. I’m not going to enjoy hearing Goldberg refer to Hashad as a BJJ blackbelt from now on. Can you hear it now?
“Not a lot of people know this, but Rashad is also a brazilian jiu jitsu black belt. He can hold his own if the fight goes to the ground!”
Blackout612- "Wuts teh UFC?"
Ubernoober- "It like two guy who just stand and swing for fence and try to knock each other shit out it awesome"
Or Batman’s phantom Hermes black belt.

I’m trying out Peligrino’s school in Belmar…he definitely is good on the ground and a good instructor.
I believe you
Anyone with a significantly higher belt than you is likely going to wow you a bit.

Ubernoober- "It like two guy who just stand and swing for fence and try to knock each other shit out it awesome"
Really?
Of all the people that you could have mentioned, you chose Pellegrino? A guy with 9 submission wins in MMA? A guy who has never had a point scored against him in Gi competition? A guy who tells every fighter that walks into his gym, “This is a Gi school; if you don’t like it, train somewhere else?”
Kurt earned his White through Brown Belts under Renzo. The only reason Kurt didn’t get his BB under Renzo was that Batman moved to Florida.
Why would anyone question Kurt’s BB credentials?
Man how can I get one, I want a black belt too!
Makes me laugh to think of Rashad as a Gracie blackbelt

ha! Canadian here. These things are hugely popular here, though I heard they’re illegal in the States. Something about not meeting certain manufacturing standards for small toys.

Not true
Unless it’s some new thing— used to manage a local east euro deli and we sold the fuck out of those things during Easter.

I know. I recall being able to get those things all the time, pretty much everywhere even in the states. But apparently…
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission determined years ago the product did not meet the small-parts requirement for toys for children under the age of three, creating a choking and aspiration hazard in young kids.
As a result, Kinder Surprise eggs are banned for sale and import into the U.S.

Black belt light, Renzo?
Keep it within the family but don’t air you dirty laundry in public if you don’t like how Rolles gives out his belts. All your doing is making Rashad look bad.

Belts are a marketing ploy in the first place. Rashad’s belt is a marketing ploy. The universe is in equilibrium.
i feel sad when people think it’s a ploy rather than a recognition
sure there are McDojo’s out there but majority of the black belts spent tons of time and dedication to achieve it
on another i feel kinda upset rashad gets a black belt the easy way
like does he even know how to do omaplata’s???!!
Making the world a better place, one dirtbag at a time.
Belts just hold up your pants
but this is still fucking lame.
The path to my fixed purpose is laid with iron rails, whereon my soul is grooved to run. Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering BROCKLESNAR; to the last I grapple with thee.

Josh Barnett would probably care to disagree with Renzo’s statement that, “In the Gi-less World Championships for example you cannot compete in the Blackbelt division no matter how long you’ve been grappling unless a certified instructor gives you a belt for that division.”
Renzo does not approve of Rolles running a McDojo under the Gracie name.

The nice thing about the cage
is that belts don’t matter. If you’ve got the skills, we’ll see it; if not we won’t.
He can wear whatever color belt he wants for all I care.
I train at Renzo's brother's academy...
They hand out promotions like it’s a solid brick of gold mixed with platinum, silver, and possibly a double-double animal style. Sure, BJ got his blue belt from Ralph in like 2 seconds, but he is obviously a rarity. Ralph and Renzo are serious about that shit.
I want a double double now.

I don't suppose
Rashad actually EARNED the belt? Just because he doesn’t use it in the cage, doesn’t mean he doesn’t have it. {{{{Jorge Gurgel}}}}!!
If you’ve earned your black belt in training IT’S LAME. Gurgel was a BJJ competitor before he started MMA…

More please...
I don’t train BJJ, I train Karate, so what’s this about It being lame getting your black belt in training? Never heard this before – could you elaborate?
