Rumor Busting:

Shane Del Rosario will not be fighting Bobby Lashley on Jan 30th. He has indeed been offered a fight with Bobby Lashley and both sides had agreed to the fight, but somehow, Strikeforce officials told Shane that the bout was off.

Lashley is fighting in three weeks, but no opponent has been announced yet. Shane on the other hand, is reportedly set to make his return on March, against fellow striker, Lavar Johnson.

...

The rumored match between Rich Franklin and Patrick Cote for UFC 113, is false. Cote will still participate on the card, but it won't be against Franklin.

...

Diego Sanchez was also talking about his next fight:
"Any suggestions on a next opponent? It's in gods hands!!! you all know I will fight anyone:) somone who will put me right back on top is what I'm looking for... I have been hinted s sherk??? I will fight anyone!!!"

"Gomi kflo in the works Is what I'm thinking Kenny wins it sets up a huge rematch with who elses but me???"

Lol, Cote doesn’t know where they got the story from. Here’s a hint Patrick- they got it from the rumor you started.

Me too

Been waiting on that for a long time. Sherk isn’t getting any younger and I’d rather see him in fights with the likes of Diego & Florian (rematch) than Miller or Oliviera.

I would be interested in seeing a few more fights with him if he drops his whole T-Rex boxing bit .

I dislike Matt Hughes. Shogun beat him like a dirty horse.

It’s kind of fucked that they don’t have an opponent picked out for one of their most famous guys less than a month out from the event.

It's also kinda fucked that he was on a TNA wrestling taping last night fighting someone

Also, three weeks out. Was thinking about writing an article about it.

Definitely not good for business IMO.

It’s one thing to try and build suspense, but SF should have announced an opponent and promoted the hell out of it long ago.

I’d rather see Kenny vs. Diego now and give Gomi somebody like Edgar or Griffin.

This is incorrect, or at least very lazy. The fight fell apart because someone on Lashley’s side rejected it, and Del Rosario says as much in that article.

As a matter of fact, not only was the match-up on the table, it was actually agreed to by both sides at one point according to Shane.
.
But I kind of had it in the back of my mind that it wasn’t really a good decision for his camp. They said that he already said yes and they said , "Well it’s up to you", so we were like, ‘Alright, let’s do this!’. I don’t know if they didn’t really expect for us to say that, but you know, whatever.

He's done a great job

Crushing cans so far.

For real though, he does use his size & strength well in the grappling department, and he hulk smashed the shit out of Franklin & Sapp.

His jits & striking could use some work, but IMO he’s actually a decent prospect. Probably a good call on his part to not take the Del Rosario fight, because Shane would’ve KO’d him or subbed him in the 1’st.

I’m talking to Bobby on Friday, so I’ll try to find out if he knows who his opponent is.

by jbotter on Jan 7, 2010 12:38 AM EST reply actions

Should definately ask him about wrestling with a date set for a fight, and being so close ot it. I understand bills need to be paid, but does he feel it is in his best interest to put his body at risk while the biggest fight of his career is only 3 weeks away?

Your under the mistaken impression that the real fight in his future was...

bigger (in terms of pay) than his fake fight at the moment.

Sad, but Lashley probably gets more money for his TNA work than his MMA stuff right now.

This was the first time in ages I heard about good ol’ Five Ounces of Pain.

by Sventsh on Jan 7, 2010 2:34 AM EST reply actions

Cote vs Franklin would not be good because Cote fights at Middleweight and Franklin wants to fight at light heavyweight. There are suitable opponents for both of these fighters at the weight classes that they choose to be in.
Shane Del Rosario would be too much for Lashley right now, but I have to wonder who Strikeforce is going to give Lashley. I can understand giving Lashley a ‘can’ because it will be his first Strikeforce fight, and they will want to showcase him, but after that, he will need to fight better fighters (not great or even good, but just better). Maybe they’ll give Lashley Obongo Humphrey or James “The Colossus” Thompson.
As long as the UFC gives Diego a top ten Lightweight that he hasn’t fought yet (except Florian), I’ll be happy. They may give Diego a Tibau, Spencer Fisher, or Pellegrino before giving him a higher level Lightweight though. The loser of Maynard vs Nate Diaz would be good as well.

by chrisbboy82 on Jan 7, 2010 3:06 AM EST reply actions

Yeah, I followed Cung Le’s career, and after a while of him fighting total ‘cans,’ they gave him someone decent (like I said, “not great or even good, but just bettter”).

by chrisbboy82 on Jan 7, 2010 12:42 PM EST up reply actions

After his first couple of fights Cung Le fought legit fighters (Von Flue, Fryklund, Morgan). Not great competition by any means, but all veteran fighters who had experienced great success at the regional level.

Lashley OTOH … not so much. He basically got a rude awakening in the Guida fight (where a ham & egger gave him all he could handle) and has been running away from legit competition ever since. The Cook fight looked suspicious as hell and Bob Sapp hasn’t been a legit competitor in years. If it is true that his camp turned down Del Rosario, it just further confirms that they are trying to keep him away from dangerous opponents.

Good to hear Lavar Johnson will be back in action

by capital L on Jan 7, 2010 6:40 AM EST reply actions

I think Del Rosario would mess up Bobby Lashley. And the
y don’t want that to happen.

by grein on Jan 7, 2010 8:18 AM EST reply actions

I think Del Rosario would be too much for Lashley at this stage too..

there’s no need to make both of their top HW prospects face each other, this early…
