Potentially a contender match, or close to it perhaps?

by Dooda on Jan 6, 2010 2:34 PM EST reply actions

I think that Dana would love to have one of these guys in for a title, even though it might be a little bit early for Daley

by Dooda on Jan 6, 2010 2:35 PM EST up reply actions

Not that early though, he was ranked 10 before beating Hazelett, so he’ll go up.

He also has that rare quality for a WW that GSP hasn’t beaten him yet.

by Phildo on Jan 6, 2010 6:15 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I suppose beating Kos and Kampmann and Hazlett all in a row is pretty damned impressive. It just seems like he barely hit the scene. I’d love to see him fight Alves, now that’d be a fight, though I like Alves to dominate Daley.

by Dooda on Jan 6, 2010 9:17 PM EST up reply actions

He has those 3, plus he was already ranked pretty highly to begin with. If he beats Kos, Alves is a trouble fight because you could lose a fight for GSP.

Maybe Alves instead of Kos, but I don’t think both are necessary.

by Phildo on Jan 6, 2010 9:23 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, maybe keep him away from Alves until he’s earned his shot, but down the road Dana has to be licking his chops at seeing Daley and Alves do it.

by Dooda on Jan 7, 2010 8:28 PM EST up reply actions

Yeap.

A source close to one of the two fighters confirmed that negotiations have already begun and that the fight will likely feature on the promotion’s next trip to Europe, either the UK or mainland.

MMAbay??

yeah ok, this is the same spot that broke the amazing news that KJ Noons was signed to the UFC shortly after he got stripped of his title. Grain of salt people

by Riley_96 on Jan 6, 2010 2:45 PM EST up reply actions

I asked about this bout today and was told “it’s a possibility”. Which means it’s being worked on.

by jbotter on Jan 6, 2010 10:04 PM EST up reply actions

This is a deff #1 contender fight.

Kos just choked out Anthony Johnson and Paul Daley is hot right now.

by Td9d on Jan 6, 2010 2:39 PM EST reply actions

ppl seem to forget daley doesnt do well against wrestlers

this is a real bad matchup for him unless hes drastically increased his wrestling defense

by milk72 on Jan 6, 2010 2:40 PM EST reply actions

Who’s forgetting that? I think Kos is the clear favorite here, probably -200.

by ufc4 on Jan 6, 2010 4:46 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Yep especially since Kos just beat Rumble with his wrestling and ground and pound which I thought he might have forgot existed

Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.

by Day Man on Jan 6, 2010 5:14 PM EST up reply actions

Kos is a bad matchup for pretty much anyone.

by Dooda on Jan 6, 2010 9:08 PM EST up reply actions

This is true. Anybody not named GSP or Thiago Alves on short notice.

by Neil Manich on Jan 6, 2010 11:01 PM EST up reply actions

I'm not hot on Daley, however...

if this fight happens and if he beats Kos, it will be hard to deny his improvement and ability.

by Razreshat on Jan 6, 2010 2:50 PM EST reply actions

sounds like a barn burner

kos will probably get ko’d trying to bang with daley

just 'cause you pour syrup on shit, don't make it pancakes

by imnotjohnlong on Jan 6, 2010 2:51 PM EST reply actions

Did you not see the Anthony Johnson fight from 106?

Daley is very similar to Johnson and I’m not talking about looks.

by 831 Son on Jan 6, 2010 3:17 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t think they’re that similar, Johnson is a better wrestler and much bigger.

by ufc4 on Jan 6, 2010 4:48 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Daley is a FAR better striker with more power probably.

I’d buy that Photoshopped graphic…even Dana’s right arm almost lines up perfectly, nice work!

If Koscheck tries to be Big Balls McGee and stand in front of this guy, he’s dead meat. Is he that stupid? Doubt it.

This fight is a win/win for us fans though. If Koscheck wins and Daley loses, Kos gets to get the snot kicked out of him by Thiago Alves while UFC puts Daley/Rumbe together.

If Daley wins, we’ll all get to see Josh Koscheck unconscious on the mat.

Awesome.

I hope this fight happens. This is the real challenge to Daley we’ve been looking for. It’ll be interesting to see just how far his takedown defence and ground game have come along since the Shields fight. I figure Kos will be smart like he was against Rumble and take this down quickly.

I love me some Sexyama!

by pud333 on Jan 6, 2010 3:11 PM EST reply actions

At this point, my money is still on Kos.

I love me some Sexyama!

by pud333 on Jan 6, 2010 3:11 PM EST up reply actions

man, so we basically get too see AJ vs. koscheck 2… i know kos learned his lesson from that fight and takes it straight to the mat.

i was really hoping to see anthony johnson vs. daley… guess since daley is coming off a w and johnson off a loss it wont happen yet.

Am I the only person here that likes Kos?

The dude is a warrior who would fight on a days notice if they asked him. I just dont understand all the Kos hate I am always hearing.

by b2tharad on Jan 6, 2010 3:31 PM EST reply actions

He seems like a terrible human being

I know that shit shouldn’t count since it should be all about the fighting, but alas.

Because hes cocky?

by b2tharad on Jan 6, 2010 3:55 PM EST up reply actions

I'm a Kos fan

He has more than proven himself.

by Andrewjt101 on Jan 6, 2010 4:26 PM EST up reply actions

Used to not be a fan but ever since he beat Johnson I haven’t heard one stupid comment about how AJ would beat GSP so I like him now.

by ufc4 on Jan 6, 2010 5:02 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Paul Daley: #1 fighter I need to see knocked out.

Too soon for him to be talking and walking around with all his swagger.

by snakecharmer1340 on Jan 6, 2010 3:33 PM EST reply actions

What's your definition of not too soon? Age? Number of fights?

Don’t really care for the dude myself, but he’s had 33 fights, is only 26 and finishes a lot of them. He is also apparently a European and world muay Thai champion.

by 831 Son on Jan 6, 2010 3:45 PM EST up reply actions

He’s not MT champion, Europe nor World…

by dancingChicken on Jan 6, 2010 6:14 PM EST up reply actions

It's been written on various sites if you google it

And on UFC’s own bio page (Though that’s prone to hyperbole I bet)

Not much more specific than that but apparently he is somehow.

by 831 Son on Jan 6, 2010 7:46 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe amateur, cause there’s no info on him…

by dancingChicken on Jan 8, 2010 5:07 AM EST up reply actions

I would honestly say

that Daley’s one of the least likely fighters to get KOed in the UFC.

by Trysdor on Jan 6, 2010 3:48 PM EST up reply actions

Does KO’d include getting TKO’d via GnP?

Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.

by Day Man on Jan 6, 2010 5:16 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t know if Shields just has bad power, but he quite literally laughed in his face when Shields was landing clean elbows from top position. I couldn’t believe it. Powerful or not, I think the kid is probably tough and it’s a really good chance that Kos controls this for 3 rounds for unanimous decision, unless Daly can keep it standing, in which case he can very easily get the KO.

by Dooda on Jan 6, 2010 9:13 PM EST up reply actions

you are too emotionally attached on Daley. he even apologize after the post fight antic against McLovin.

by vivero on Jan 6, 2010 6:11 PM EST up reply actions

If Koscheck is dumb enough to keep it standing and he has demonstrated in the past that he is then Daley will knock him the fuck out.

All koschek has to do is wrestle and grind him down for a round and then finish him in round 2.

by mmalogic on Jan 6, 2010 3:46 PM EST reply actions

I think it’s still a rumour because Kos won’t sign until Swick beats Paulo Thiago.

by bubbafat on Jan 6, 2010 4:04 PM EST reply actions

nice fight. Koscheck should forget his standup on this fight. I was looking forward for Joshson vs Daley though.

by vivero on Jan 6, 2010 6:14 PM EST reply actions

I really think this would be an excellent #1 contender match. Here’s why.

Koscheck has been falling just short of a title shot despite his continual top 10 status for a while now. This is mostly because of what could be described as brain farts (striking when he should grapple, taking an opponent lightly). His chin isn’t invincible. Not saying he’s chinny or that it’s completely soft, but that he can’t count on his chin to save him against any opponent. Against someone with power like Semtex, he cannot afford to brain fart. Getting through Semtex means he not only has all the tools, but has corrected the mental mistakes. He would deserve to challenge for the title in my eyes.

Daley has proven he can put people to sleep. He has a TKO over a former top 10 welterweight, and a KO over a top UFC gatekeeper. We saw how he did against a top grappler in Jake Shields though. If he can stuff Koscheck takedowns, it shows marked improvement over in that aspect of his game. Also, Kos is a top 5 WW right now. If he can get wins over a top 10, a top 5, and in a fashion that shows he’s plugged his biggest weakness, he deserves a title shot.

My motto,
As I live and learn,
is:
Dig and Be Dug
In Return.

I think Alves fights Finch next, but if he beats Finch, and Daley beats Kos, then we could be seeing a good #1 contenders match between those two. =]

If Kos wants to win this fight, he will

If Kos wants to be an ultimate kickboxer, he will not.

by tichbou on Jan 6, 2010 7:11 PM EST reply actions

Alves, please.

Daley vs. Alves.

Kos is going to win this. I want to see Alves fight Daley in a stand-up battle.
