UFC 108 prelims draw a series high 1.5 million.
The UFC 108 Prelim show, on Spike, drew 1.5 million viewers for an overall rating of 1.0. This is up slightly from the previous prelim shows, which generally do between 1.2-1.4 million viewers.
This suggests that Dana might be correct when he predicted 108 would do 400-500k buys. This, along with the solid numbers that the Countdown to 108 did, seems to indicate that there was more interest for the card that most of us thought.
The 108 countdown show did 618,000 viewers, the highest since the Countdown to 101. The 106 Countdown show, by comparison, did only 445,000.
Even if Dana's prediction is off, it is likely that 108 won't do as bad as was expected. Looking at these numbers, I don't see it being lower than 350,000 buys.

I think consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the prelims and that the ratings could gradually slope up on a month-to-month, regardless of the event. It’s still good for buy-rates, I’m sure, and this number is particularly promising given that the last ten minutes were just promotion for the PPV.

It also doesn’t hurt that the fights that have been shown on the SPIKE prelim show, for the most part, were fast paced and quick with exciting finishes. If I remember correctly, Pat Barry V. Antoni Hardonk was on the prelim show, and if a fight like that doesn’t get the casual fan or someone on the fence about ordering the main card to buy a PPV, then nothing will.
GIVE UP?! GIVE UP?!
I watched the Prelims...
And, I didn’t buy the PPV. I got my fill w/ the Prelims… I would have bought the fight if I had some people over at my house. I usually get a call or two from friends looking to get together to host the fights. No such luck this time around.
I don’t think this will do much for PPV overall #’s.
I disagree
These prelims got more viewers than any of the previous ones, what that tells me is that there were a bunch of people staying home Saturday night with the shitty weather and New Year’s the day before and a lot of those people ordered the PPV.
Prelim’s on Spike were awesome. Overshadowing that, the fact that I feel that half my fifty bucks went to fights I’d already seen for free. #%^
They were kickass fights though.

Plus, I don’t know about the rest of you, but not everyone I watched the event with showed up at 6 for the prelims.

Yep
Same here— happens each time. A lot of people don’t even care, honestly. They think those fights are throwaways.

How can a MMA fan simply ignore new and fresh bouts???
prelims are part of the event and not every fighter gets to make it to undercard.
i went early so that i can watch all the fights for Affliction event. In fact, i pay good money to be part of that event so why waste valuable n enjoyable fights go to waste?
*UFC airing prelims is probably the most smartest decision they have made in last year.
Why in the hell would they let these NEW exciting fights go to waste? More exposure to the relatively up n comer fighter n more contents for the MMA fans who are dying to watch more MMA like myself.

Not all people are the same, I suppose
If I could watch every prelim fight on every card, I most certainly would.

I wondered the same thing
I went to the Oritz/Griffen fight and TONS of people didn’t show until the “live” card started on PPV and even then a bunch more didn’t show until the main event.
wtf
