loved UFC 107 live… but will be watching strikeforce. the only thing that could make me watch UFC programming over Strikeforce live would be a live event, repeats make no sense.

I'm old school hating Lesnar, I've been hating Lesnar since '08

by MicahW on Jan 5, 2010 4:26 PM EST reply actions

Actually repeats make perfect sense for the UFC to show up against Strikeforce shows on Showtime. Since Showtime is a premium subscription network their programming needs to bring in new subscribers. If the UFC is putting an MMA show on a channel they already have up against every Showtime Strikeforce show it gives the consumer a choice to not purchase Showtime. Even if it is repeats.

Just BE.

I wish they would stop doing this

I think it’s a slap in the face to the fans that bought the PPV. Yes go ahead and give me the line that HBO does it with boxing and any other lines you have but its bs.

My argument is if a fan is willing to spend 50 – 60 dollars to buy your PPV show them loyalty and say hey we are not gonna show this to anyone else for at least like 4 months not a month later. But maybe that is just my opinion.

Still will be watching Strikeforce and so it doesnt change anything and regardless of what anyone says Strikeforce should be awesome.

by bigdmmafan on Jan 5, 2010 4:30 PM EST reply actions

Simple solution--

Stop ordering the PPV’s.

Blackout612- "Wuts teh UFC?"
Ubernoober- "It like two guy who just stand and swing for fence and try to knock each other shit out it awesome"

by Blackout612 on Jan 5, 2010 4:32 PM EST up reply actions

If I could I would

but I’m hooked. It’s a lot easier to say dont order Penn-Sanchez then on the day of the fight to actually not order it.

Like I said my opinion is they just need to stop showing the PPV’s a month later show some loyalty to the fans that buy the PPV’s and are keeping your ass in business.

by bigdmmafan on Jan 5, 2010 4:40 PM EST up reply actions

I'M WITH YOU!

I agree and not ordering it is no simple solution bc you want to watch the fights live!!!

by SHOGUNROBBERY on Jan 5, 2010 5:06 PM EST up reply actions

If your main concern is watching the fights live, who cares what they do with the fights a month later?

by Phildo on Jan 5, 2010 5:07 PM EST up reply actions

I don't care too much,

just agreeing with bigdmmafan. It shows no loyalty to the people that paid for it!

by SHOGUNROBBERY on Jan 5, 2010 5:10 PM EST up reply actions

The loyalty they show is you got to see it when it happened. If the loyalty is that much of a big deal to you, wait a month and watch for free, if it isn’t a big deal, don’t whine.

by Phildo on Jan 5, 2010 5:20 PM EST up reply actions

WOW! YOU DON'T GET IT!!!

Look up loyalty! How is it loyalty to see it live? I’m paying for it! I was agreeing because for some people $50 a ppv is a bit much, esp in todays economy. I buy every single one and don’t really care how much it is. But if I did, than it would really get to me because I wouldn’t want to pay $50 than see it for free a month later. It’s just bad business in the long run and gives fans (of the ufc) a reason to maybe watch another promotion over theirs.

by SHOGUNROBBERY on Jan 6, 2010 9:12 AM EST up reply actions

It’s not loyalty.

you pay 50 bucks to see the 4 or 5 fights that they say you can watch live. That is the contract.

If you can’t afford 50 bucks, get some friends (like the majority of people that buy the PPV).

If you really think it’s an issue, just stop ordering and stop whining, because they aren’t going to stop. Putting Prelims on spike and showing the shows more frequently on spike obviously hasn’t hurt their business, so they aren’t going to stop.

by Phildo on Jan 6, 2010 9:34 AM EST up reply actions

CANT AFFORD???

Who said that I couldn’t? I said it really doesn’t matter to me, just not right, that’s all. We have a dif of opinion, leave it at that!

This

My whole point.

Blackout612- "Wuts teh UFC?"

by Blackout612 on Jan 5, 2010 5:18 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah if anyone shows even the slightest dissatisfaction with the UFC they should just stop watching it. The UFC deserves better than fans who don’t show unwavering support for every card.

Ricky Hatton came closer to beating Manny Pacquiao than Marquez did to beating Floyd.

Try making sense

If he doesn’t like that he has to pay for a live card that could be re-aired a month later, simply don’t order. It’s that simple.

How do you figure? Watching it as it happens is a significantly different experience from watching it a month later

This can’t be quoted enough.
I can see how it might bother some people but it would bug the shit out of me to skip an event because they ‘might’ show it for free months later.

by pr0cs on Jan 5, 2010 5:04 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly. Even if you have the type of personality that gets uptight about this sort of thing, you can’t ignore the facts that (1) it gives more exposure to the sport, the fighters, and their $pon$or$. (2) it helps MMA fans that can only afford basic cable (3) the presentation of the live event is different from the presentation of the replay. Consider the difference between seeing Brock’s UFC 100 antics live on the PPV and seeing them in edited form during the UFC 100 replay. They also often show different fights during the replays and edit the post fight action to make in look like seriously KTFO’d fighters were less hurt than they really were.

by Jahbulon on Jan 6, 2010 12:41 AM EST up reply actions

This must be the dumbest argument for anything I’ve ever heard, Congrats.

I could care less if they show it the next day for free. Let alone MONTHS.

Would you get pissed if saw an NFL game live, then the NFL Network shows the best games from the weekend on Wednesday and Thursday?

“Well if I knew they were going to show it on 4 days tape delay……..”

by SidHartman on Jan 5, 2010 5:28 PM EST up reply actions

Plenty of people pay a ton for Sunday Ticket and can just get those games for free on the NFL network later in the week.

by Phildo on Jan 6, 2010 9:35 AM EST up reply actions

I get the Sunday ticket as well, but for some strange reason, that doesn’t bother me! Wonder why that is???

by SHOGUNROBBERY on Jan 6, 2010 10:36 AM EST up reply actions

If that doesn’t bother you but this does, you’re crazy. They are the same exact thing, except the UFC has more time in between showings.

Fantastic!

Now I can toggle between the two and avoid as many walkouts, interviews, commercials, and “What is an Armbar with Frank Shamrock” footage as possible.

If the UFC continually broadcasts 50% of their PPV on Spike TV for free, an hour or two before I pay for it, then I will stop purchasing PPV’s. That really pisses me off. They are shooting themselves in the foot.

by bubbafat on Jan 5, 2010 5:25 PM EST reply actions

an hour or two before what?

by cagefightonacid on Jan 5, 2010 5:33 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Before the PPV portion of the evening

He means that they seem to always show more than 2 prelim fights (sometimes as many as 4) live on Spike free before the PPV, and then half the actual fight time footage on the PPV is those same prelims he just saw for free, and that such a situation detracts from the value of the PPV. I mostly agree. I do understand, though, that since there was a time when no prelims were shown at all that it sounds a little spoiled, but the current reality is that we do get free prelims, so IMO its a viable argument that the PPV part of the broadcast is now overpriced.

But I digress, as there’s a nice, quiet, little hole in the wall in my neighborhood that orders the fights and is the perfect place to watch. I got nothing to complain about.

I’m sure the UFC is worried about pissing you off, HBO replays their big fights a week later you don’t see boxing fans complaining bout that.

Why is it that MMA fans have really become the biggest whinners in sports today?. There isn’t anything from free prelim fights to complaining about a show they already saw being shown again seriously it needs to stop.

This is very smart move by the UFC, everytime you show one of these big and successfull shows you continue to strenghten the brand. People who can’t afford to buy it can now tune in and deliver great ratings for Spike on what is a dead day for them Saturnday Night which in turn helps the UFC make more money.

Anyone complaining that they paid for it live and now is being show again a month later is out of thier minds. Boxing does this all the time, yet you don’t see boxing people crying about how they paid for Pacquiao vs. Cotto and now it’s show a week later on cable for free.

Anyways the UFC isn’t going to stop doing it and they shouldn’t and if they lose a couple of buys from people who can’t understands a simply business decision. Fine but it won’t affect them at all in the end because the majority of the fans will continue to support the live ppvs just like boxing fans do.

by Raker on Jan 5, 2010 5:33 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

I’ll be watching Strikeforce because i bought 107. Whenyou buy it you see live action and somethings does not make it to network TV. BJ licking blood off his gloves has been left on the cutting room floor for the DVD so im guessing they would do the same for a tv broadcast. WIth a live event you get to see every thing, walk outs, after the match thoughts from fighters, and also if a person missed the Rampage/Keith J fight they would have to listen to censored version of the trash talk.
