Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

Quote of the Day 2: Ben Henderson - "Jamie Varner Was Looking for a Way Out. I Will Never Stop"

At the 3:10 min mark:

"In Jamie's last fight against Cowboy Cerrone, he was looking for a way out. It was an illegal knee, a glancing knee, what ever you want to call it. But he wanted the fight stopped. He got to the fifth round, got to deep waters and he stopped. He didn't want to fight anymore. I will never stop".

... "Jamie knows that he doesn’t have anywhere to run. There’s no where to hide. No breaks, no timeouts, no mouthpiece spitting out, no antics. He’s in for a fight".

Defiantly rooting for Bendo. Lost some respect for Varner with the way he handled the Cerrone situation.

Defiantly?

Who is the person that you are defying in order to root for Bendo?

I tend to agree with Henderson on this one. I’ve said this before, but live at the arena everyone around me thought it looked like he was trying to get out of it. To me, on the big screen, his expression was suspicious and unbelievable: like Rampage trying to act.

It’s only a hunch on my part, but my gut tells me he was faking it. Take it for what it is, an impression. There is no certainty to it and I wouldn’t bet on it.

Right. But milking it for a 5 minute break and milking it to stop the fight are two different things.

by cmsove on Jan 5, 2010 4:15 PM EST up reply actions

Do you people not remember the aftermath of the fight? Varner had a detached retina and there was a question as to whether or not he would ever fight again. How can you call that faking?

by roccotuna on Jan 5, 2010 7:43 PM EST up reply actions

I’m pretty sure his retina was fine, he just said it might be detached. His hand was broke, foot fractured, but these had nothing to do with the illegal knee Cerrone threw.

I also find it fishy how he went from “maybe never fighting again” to being 100% right around the time the interim title match happened.

love this dude, but still think he was out on top of Cerrone in … 2nd round, right?

Regardless, should be really exciting.

i became a fan of henderson after watching the cerrone fight, to me he showed a “never say die” attitude and i think hes going to have that same attitude against varner

delicious smack talk.

Ummmm yes.

Stoked for this fight. Varner is dangerous but I think Bendo’s jits will be the difference.

Benson is a warrior.

As for Varner, I thought it was suspicious that the first thing he mentioned in the post fight interview was his broken hand. It seemed to me that’s really why he wanted the fight stopped.

This will be a SMOOTH victory for Ben Henderson

I can see Henderson mainly outwrestling Varner and most likely getting the decision win. I don’t feel that any of these two have a definite advantage in striking, so I see this fight taking place on the ground for most of the fight.

Do we have to call him Bendo now? Is that a rule? Cuz that’s a terrible nickname. Smooth is way better.

Not really, since it’s a riff on Hendo.

I prefer Smooth myself, though. Except on the ladies. Push in the bush!

You know that’s probably more than I wanted to share.

Everytime I see him fight or see one of his interviews I like him more. Ill def be rooting for Bendo.

Bendo fits more to me after watching him fight Cerrone…it was freaking crazy how none of Cerrone’s subs seemed to even affect him at all.
