Coenen/Cyborg was an early stop

She was covering up almost every one of those shots before the ref. stepped in.

But not improving her position.

And I believe it was The Natural who said that refs tells you “curling up into the fetal position is not an intelligent defense.”

IMO

The stoppage looked very similar in her fight with Gina. Gina was getting pummeled with strikes but only a couple got in. The ref asked her to improve her position and she never did.

by MMAGuard on Feb 1, 2010 8:04 AM EST up reply actions

Gina took some time to get up after that ended.

by Kefka on Feb 1, 2010 9:02 AM EST up reply actions

She was up fairly quick. I think she was talking to the ref and asking him if it was the end of the fight or the end of the round because it had a sec left. You can see her talking to him on the ref cam.

…..but she was beaten up, if that’s what you’re saying

Are you kidding?

GSP would destroy Diaz

by Bloodsport on Jan 31, 2010 10:32 PM EST via mobile reply actions

GSP would destroy anyone in the world at 170

Doesn’t mean he should call it a career.

Who said anything about calling it quits?

I did find it amusing how he referred to Zaromski’s language as jibberish.

Id love to see nick take on gsp not sayin he’ll win but Id give him a shot plz ufc sign nick again so we can see him against some real competition

by denni on Jan 31, 2010 11:13 PM EST reply actions

Nick Diaz has been on a nice little roll since the Noons fight. I hope he keeps this up, though it’s pretty tough following his train of thought, or lack there of. He thinks he only lost one fight, so considering all the decision losses, the only one he thinks he lost was against Jeremy Jackson.

You have to be the man... you have to be very, like, alpha male with her. You know? Decide what you do and everything. So, show her who's the boss, you know? - GSP

What part of either his opponent was running away, or Nick was too angry to fight don’t you understand? So really NIck is on a Fedor esque run of 29-1, that’s definetely top 10 p4p status right there.

I’d say he does have a valid point about the Gomi fight though.

Nick would be way more popular if he hired a PR coach and practiced some public speaking. I think alot of time he is actually trying to be respectful to his opponents but it comes off wrong….then he gets angry….then …well you know.

Anyway, how can you not like a fighter who put on a slugfest with Gomi and then wins by gogoplata? Awesome in my opinion.

by Daveyboy on Jan 31, 2010 11:35 PM EST reply actions

Not really...

Aside from his incredible skills, his mannerism’s and thugish F-U attitude are what I like about him…

by mrnice on Feb 1, 2010 1:57 AM EST up reply actions

You're my complete opposite.

I begrudgingly respect his skills despite my hatred of his mannerism and thuggish F-U attitude.

by Razreshat on Feb 1, 2010 9:42 AM EST up reply actions

I’m not saying he should turn into a ‘goodie 2 shoes’ but if he was better at communicating his “Thugish F-U attitude” and could more intelligently act like an asshole……he’s be more popular.

He just needs some PR and business skills. He’s got the rest dialed.

Anyone have contract details on Diaz?

Does he have fights remaining or does he have to adhere to a champions clause?

I love the way Nick decides what question he's going to answer....

…..regardless of what he’s asked. LOL! It’s like an angry version of “The Dude” who’s a fighter.

I agree with some of the people on here…

Nick would be way more popular if he hired a PR coach and practiced some public speaking.

Obviously, Nick Diaz gets shit done, no one can argue that.

Yeah, he is a punk, but he does what he needs to do come fight time.

However, he can not talk or properly market himself. When he does seem to get words out, he pretty much bashes the hell out of everyone, to be honest, I like that, but that’s just me, that kind of speech isn’t helping him get the fights he wants to fight.

I think this resembles B.J. Penn’s problem. There is just no one to fight.

by jcbrewer on Feb 1, 2010 2:36 AM EST reply actions

To tell the truth I would rather see Diaz vs GSP then Hardy.

GSP always puts his opponents on their back and Diaz is much better on the ground the Hardy and just as good if not better at this point on his feet.

by J_Maddux on Feb 1, 2010 3:52 AM EST reply actions

I agree 100%

people probably think im crazy but I think diaz has the tools to make a better scrap than hardy..he’s proven he is hard to rock…great bjj of his back and super long reach…I still think GSP hands him an L but…if and when he got put on his back at least he is a threat..I don’t see hardy with any offense for GSP off his back

by longevity on Feb 1, 2010 6:26 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

I don’t think you’d be in the minority if you said Diaz would be more of a challenge for Georges than Hardy is; you’d only be in the minority if you said that you thought Diaz would win. Most people believe Hardy doesn’t have a chance in hell and that it will end early and ugly. Hardy is really a smart counter-puncher with good hand speed, decent though not overwhelming KO power, very little wrestling, and largely defensive ground game. He’s basically the kind of fighter that GSP annihilates. At least Diaz has some interesting style and physicality factors to consider. Diaz could at least threaten subs off his back, create opportunities with his length, hand speed, and accuracy, and is tough as a bucket of nails. But really, BJ couldn’t do anything off his back against GSP, and Alves couldn’t outstrike him or prevent the takedowns whenever he did land a couple of strikes, and Diaz likely won’t fare better than either of them.

by AJB on Feb 1, 2010 10:20 AM EST up reply actions

ya man…its just seems so far fetched picturing anyone at 170 beating Gsp…maybe theres a prodigy out there we don’t know about…possibly Tyron Woodley with a lot more development?

by longevity on Feb 1, 2010 12:01 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Someone will come along at some point who can defend his take downs and has serious KO power and hand speed, and then he’ll get a legit challenger. But just like GSP himself is sort of an “evolution” in the welterweight division, the person to beat him will have to be the next stage of the evolution.

how scary would that dude be…but you are right..Im there are a lot of 18 year olds out there at an all american level of wrestling training bjj and mt…can’t wait to see more of these types come along
