Greg Jackson and Mike Winkeljohn, head coaches at Jackson's/Winklejohn's MMA Academy, were honored by the mayor of Albuquerque, New Mexico on Tuesday, which was declared "Jackson/Winkeljohn MMA Day".

"Through their endeavors, Greg Jackson and Michael Winkeljohn have helped to attract greater interest in Albuquerque from folks all over the world," said Mayor Richard J. Berry in a press release. "They have had offers to move their gym elsewhere, but they have decided to keep it in their hometown. They are truly two of Albuquerque’s favorite sons."

I wonder why they just call it

Greg Jackson’s MMA academy most of the time…

I believe this is a new name

it was previously “Jackson’s Submission Fighting”, but the official name is now “Jackson’s/Winkeljohn’s MMA”. I guess Winkeljohn has taken an equal leadership role to Jackson.

It was really more of a joke

about Winklejohn not exactly rolling off the tongue.

I wonder when they will have bugs bunny day?

anyone ever find out if winklejohn got his eye sight back?

read a few months back that he lost it in one eye from a cut, caused by a long toenail. crazy.

During the run up to the last Holly Holm fight, who he coaches, he said there was nothing more the docs could do and he’d have to live with one eye… bummer.

From early December interview:
After undergoing four surgeries, Winkeljohn finally was told his optic nerve was destroyed and there was no hope to restore vision in the eye.

"The optic nerve is trashed, so it’s done for," he said. "I’ve got one eye, and I’ve just got to protect it from now on."

A boxing coach with no depth perception? That’s got to be brutally tough.
