Michael Bisping knocking people out in sparring:

"Bisping has been engaging in hard sparring sessions over the last couple of weeks and our source says he "has knocked two of sparring partners out that we brought in for him. I mean clean out, proper sleepy-time knockouts" . One of those two sparring partners is known to have outweighed him considerably."

"Fighters Only has also learned that professional boxers and MMA fighters of considerable experience have been employed as sparring partners, and the reports from these closed-door sessions - which are conducted at fight or near-fight intensity - indicate that Bisping is at his all-time peak as a fighter."

Kim Couture...

No way dude! she’s known to have Wanderlei step it up a notch cause of her heavy hands and amazing footwork during sparring sessions.

When I saw this I immediately though Bisping should have a new catch phrase for countdown programs or pre fight interviews. “It’s tea time, mother fucker.”

Some people think I am a dumb, ugly human being, but really I am a beautiful ape, with exceptional verbal skills.

Eff...

I always hate to hear about guys getting knocked out in sparring sessions. Concussions in fights are hard enough to deal with, without incurring them in practice.

That’s what I was thinking as well. Things like that can shorten a career and a life considerably.

I know camps are usually embellishing when they say things like this, so I hope it’s not true. Good for him if he’s banging it out really well, but I hope he’s not concussing his friends/training partners.

I think the Hendo KO has effected Bisping more than anything

He said in the lead up to the Kang fight he knows he lost a lot of respect in the fight world. That means something, and I think Bisping realized that he can no longer skate on being a TUF winner or the best British MMA fighter – especially with the emergence of Paul Daley and Dan Hardy. I think in this fight, Bisping is the real hungry one.

by mason_beer on Jan 27, 2010 4:19 PM EST up reply actions

That's true

I’ll still be rooting for Wandy, my favoritist fighter of all times, but I have grown to respect Bisping just a little bit more after his demeanor in recent months and his excellent showing against Kang.

If this is true, good for him. He’ll need to be the best ever Bisping to beat Wandy.

Not dick enough

I think Bisping would have to be really childish in his trash talk to get Wandy to do that.

Everyone wants to know if Wand still has it. If he loses to Bisbing we will have our answer.

to bad...

he is unable to do that on any of his ufc fights
lets see if he could do it this time

Wandy really needs another big KO win like that.

Seriously, it’s sort of sad seeing him continually lose these days (albeit to top talent).

Why is everyone assuming Silva is the favorite

He’s 1-5 in his last six fights. He’s been KO’d cold in three of those fights, one being’s Bisping’s stablemate Rampage Jackson. He’s over the hill. He’s game and tough and can still compete like he did with Franklin and he can still knock people out like he did Jardine, but he was just treading water to keep up with Franklin.

Bisping looked terrible against Henderson and was probably overwhelmed by everything surrounding UFC 100 and he was simply fighting a better fighter that night. But he jumped right back the cage and had his best fight against Denis Kang – who until that fight was an internet darling. He showed good defensive jits, mixed his strikes up, and showed he’s started working on wrestling. He’s building his skills.

Seriously, I think people are looking at this fight based on reputation and not reality. Bisping is a better fighter than people give him credit for, and too many keep praying for the Wanderlei of old to reemerge, and I just don’t think it will. This fight will be a lot like the Wandy-Franklin fight. As long as Bisping doesn’t do anything stupid like Jardine did, he uses his length to pick him apart on the outside, uses his kicks, and works more takedowns he should win.

I don't like Bisping

Not afraid to say that I’m rooting for Wandy, because I loathe Bisping. Bisping could fight a 70 year old orthodontist, I’ll be picking the Dentist. Am I thinking rationally? Nope, not at all. Is Bisping a talented fighter? Yes, but I still don’t like him.

Ditto

I actually enjoyed him on TUF (as a fighter, not so much as a coach) but I don’t think his skill set has caught up to his mouth. Also I put him in that category, of busy, technically proficient fighters who can’t finish anyone, which is my least favorite category.

Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.

again I point to the Kang fight for growth

He finished him, and did it with flair.

In his 10 UFC fights, Bisping finished 6. When you take into account he lost two (Evans and Hendo), he’s finished 6 of his 8 wins. And according to Wiki, he finished every single fight in his pre-UFC career as well.

The guy finishes fights. It might not be pretty, but it gets the job done.

Very well said

His jiu-jitsu was absolutely stellar against Kang (loved the Judo Chop Nate did on it a few weeks ago) and even though it looked like his ground and pound lacked power, Kang was a bloody mess when he finally got off his back.

Everyone can hate Bisping all they want – I think the Henderson loss humbled him and he was much less brash even in victory against Kang.

But don’t listen to me, I’m British. ;)

I finish beers at 1:55.

I'm America's unofficial Bisping Fanboy

I don’t know why.

I think a lot of BIsping’s shit talking for the Henderson fight was just trying to build up the television show and the fight itself. But I think he did believe all the hype the UFC put behind him, and he got crushed by Henderson.

It is weird how loose his punches looked, but Kang was a bloody mess.

The key for BIsping is to take advantage of his length. Silva is compact, small arms and small legs, and Bisping is rangy. He can’t let Silva bait him in, he needs to pick him apart from the outside and then work his wrestling.

Yeah…if Wandy comes in with the same “left hook, right hook, repeat” style he’s been using lately I can definitely see this happening.
