I still think its one of the greatest marketing jobs ever that people think that if Kimbo could only learn the ground game he would be a great fighter. If you put him in boxing matches with most of the HWs in the UFC, i still think he would lose. He has limited power, an iffy chin, a limited gas tank, and little to no striking technique.

The UFC hype machine is one of the best in sports.

i somewhat agree….the notion that people do not want to stand with kimbo is ridiculous. those who want to take more of an advantage due to his lack of ground game have every right to but i can easily rattle off 10 or more names in the heaveyweight division, just in the ufc, that would probably ko him standing.

people need to realize that he went from being a guy with some boxing technique (on a street fighting level) taking out guys who probably never trained a day in their life. to trying to fight at a much higher level against pros (most who were over the hill or 1 dimesional…other than petruzelli…but still pros). they tried to build his career like a manager in boxing would but his notoriety kind of prevented them from doing so completely…

in his defense, he’s old for the sport and is getting a late start….he does have some heart imo, based on his performances in the gannon brawl (which was the first time he fought a guy with some training) the thompson fight (where he did make it threw some adversity and kept fighting to win)…and seems to have a couple of natural physical tools.
let him get some more training and see where he is by the end of 2010…his window is small but if he turns around and beats a top 20 guy…i think he could legitimize himself to a small extent.

the mitrione fight is a good test for him…mitrione’s striking is horrid technically but he has size, power and a good chin…
