Rankings compiled by Richard Wade.
We've been waiting and waiting for the return of #1 Georges St Pierre since last July and his return at UFC 111 against #5 Dan Hardy is only a few weeks away now.
UFC 111 will also see #2 Jon Fitch rematch #3 Thiago Alves in an arguably more relevant match than the championship tilt. Neither man gave GSP much to worry about in their losses to him, but both went the distance and a win should return the winner to title contention.
#4 Josh Koscheck will get a crack at the fast-rising #6 Paul Daley at UFC 113. If Daley wins, particularly via a spectacular KO, expect him to get an immediate title shot. Koscheck is more problematic, but he's not entirely out of the hunt himself.
#8 Mike Swick will take on #9 Paulo Thiago at UFC 109, taking the place of his teammate Koscheck who was injured and couldn't rematch Thiago.
#7 Matt Hughes will face Renzo Gracie at UFC 113. Hughes is still (rightly) ranked in the top 10, but he seems pretty comfortable on the senior circuit, taking high profile, high payday bouts against other big name fighters whose best days are behind them.
#11 Carlos Condit has yet to find his groove in the UFC, but he'll get highly touted rookie Rory MacDonald at UFC 115.
This weekend's Strikeforce: Miami card will see the top ranked non-UFC welterweights contend. #12 Marius Zaromskis will challenge #15 Nick Diaz for the title and the long-suffering #13 Jay Hieron will face Joe Riggs on the prelims.
Hopefully Dan Henderson will send #13 Jake Shields back down to the welterweight division as well when they meet on Strikeforce's April CBS card.
Based on the premise that all MMA rankings are subjective but that it’s still useful and informative to know who the online MMA community as a whole ranks as the best fighters in MMA, we collect and average the rankings of the top MMA websites to produce our consensus rankings.
We compile the top MMA rankings from each of our sources and award 25 points for a first place ranking, 16 for a 10th place ranking, 1 for a 25th place ranking. A formula is used to "normalize" the data so all fighters are awarded points from those lists that do not include a full 25 fighters. This formula ensures that each ranking site awards the same number of total points regardless of how many fighters they choose to rank. Each fighter’s total is divided by the number of possible points to determine their standing in the Consensus Rankings.

What’s the site that a) ranks Sotiropoulos at 170 and b) bumped him up in their rankings without him fighting in the division since April 2008?

Thanks, I’m Australian as well so it’s law (or at least it should be) that I like Sots but I can’t work out how their computer system operates if he’s this high in a division he doesn’t fight in. I see they also rank Mousasi second at LHW and Benson in the top five at 155 so maybe I’ll just walk away slowly.
Anthony Johnson not ranked in the top 25?

he's #20
despite losing 3 out of his last 5 how much more could you ask for.
Rumble lost a lot of hype after losing to Koscheck. However, Rumble is still a young up-and-coming prospect who can still get better and may even move up in weight. I see Rumble beating Howard.
He's killing himself to fight at WW.
He’s a big middleweight, and still has room to grow. To have him cut all the way to WW is bad for his career longevity. I think that if he improves his footwork and hands, he’d be a great middleweight in two years. Fighting smaller, faster welterweights who can outwork him in later rounds (if they are still awake) is not a good strategy. Have him move up to MW and fight McFedries, that won’t last too long. Then, if he still wants to fight tiny dudes, give him Akiyama. There’s tons of great fights in the UFC MW class for him. Cote, Belcher, Leben, Bisping… I know I’d be excited for any of those.

I agree
The thing is that Middleweight isn’t as deep of a division as Welterweight. There aren’t too many very well-rounded fighters in that division except around the very top (even a highly ranked fighter like Okami or Sonnen have weaknesses in at least one department). I think Johnson would be very good in Middleweight because the only advantage he has in Welterweight is that he is humungous, but gasses fast. He’d still be big for Middleweight, but wouldn’t have to kill himself cutting weight.
Georges St. Pierre is #1?!?!?!?!
This list is bullshit.
Mark it 8 Dude.

if Zaromskis is at #12 and Diaz is at #15, why is Marius the underdog?

Because 90% of people think Diaz is gonna win?

Diaz
is penalized by fighting at middleweight a lot recently so some sites have him ranked there instead of at WW.
