Strikeforce: Miami Preview - Nick Diaz and Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos

Diaz: "I’m very happy to fight at that weight (170). I look the best at that weight. I like it, I feel the best at that weight." "I’ve been waiting for a long time to fight in here at this weight class. Those last two fights weren’t my idea. I’ve fought at welterweight most of my life, so this isn’t a new thing to me."

"I think Zaromskis is a good fighter, whatever. Anybody who is willing to fight at this level is a good fighter."
-- Nick Diaz vs. Marius Zaromskis for the vacant Strikeforce welterweight title. More at mmaweekly.com.

Santos: "I've seen some of Coenen’s fights and she likes to stand up. She wins some of her fights by submission. I’m just going to go over to her and exchange with her, get a feeling for what she’s doing and go for my knockout. I’m always prepared to go in. I’m always hoping that I’m going to get a really good fight and a really good exchange. I’m always prepared for my five rounds, but for some reason, my fights keep ending in the first round."
-- Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos vs. Marloes Coenen in Santos' first title defense. More at sherdog.com.

You’re going to be zero for four. I hope you’re not as Jordan Breen would say a high volume bettor.

0/4, really? I’d say more like 3/4 with Santos beating Coenen.

That’s why they call it gambling. But I’m very confident that Diaz will submit Zaromskis and Cyborg will overwhelm Coenen.
Lawler is more of a hopeful pick although I do think the fight is a toss up.
And I just have a funny feeling that with all this Hieron love for him being “disrespected” points to a Riggs upset.

“your guy” is going to finish someone who has only been stopped via cut? highly suspect.

Diaz is like Fedor

which I never thought I’d say… but they both have paper skin. A cut stoppage is very possible. I also think Diaz can take punishment for two rounds to land some jabs and heavy body shots, spend the third round wearing Zaromskis out, then working for a 4th round submission. If he can avoid the head kick and cuts, he should be able to win this.

Also worth noting is that Zaromskis is more familiar with a ring. He has some cage time, but we’ll have to see if the venue affects his ability to cut off escapes and set up the kick.

Diaz is like Fedor

I will now be taking this out of context and attributing it to you

From now on whatever event I am planning will be know as the ‘Bas Rutten Invitational ____’

I want Zaromskis to win, but like CroCop, when your opponents know of your head kicks, that person will generally train for them and work around it. However, Jordan Breen says this about the Diaz brothers that they don’t utilize much movement but throw high volume of strikes while more-or-less standing still. I will go with Zaromskis to win this because I don’t see Nate Diaz trying to take this to the floor, and while I have seen Zaromskis take hits to the face, I don’t think he’ll be a human punching bag like Scott Smith was.

While Nick likes to throw a lot of punches, he has very little power in his hands. Same goes for Nate.

by goodbones on Jan 26, 2010 5:09 PM EST up reply actions

I think

he has deceptive power. The punches he throw start off as pitty patter but as they find their range he increase the power he puts behind them. I am not saying he has 1 or 2 shot KO power but he does hit hard.

by Riney on Jan 26, 2010 6:36 PM EST up reply actions

Diaz will most likely stand with Zaromskis, and if they really started trading shots, I think Zaromskis will get the better of the situation. He’s a lot more compact and has more raw power behind his shots, and as someone noted, Diaz doesn’t like to move his head all that much.

represent, you don’t move bro.
