No Sherk = No main card.

I guess this means it’s a 2 hour show.

Looking at these main card fights we could easily see 1-2 prelims.

Come to think of it

I think if Sherk/Guida did go through then Kongo/Buentello wouldn’t be on here if they planned a 4 fight main card.

I am sure there will be a quick stoppage and the Guida fight will get shown! Looking forward to this card, nice fights and some easy money to be made!

Dos Santos/Gonzaga won't get past round 1.

Actually there is not one main card fight I see going the distance.

Exactly.

I think Guida and Schaub will both get shown during the televised portion

I'd love to see Irvin/Sakara ahead of Schaub/Gormley

The last 3 Fight Nights have been decision fests (some entertaining, some boring) and we’ve gotten no prelims. This looks like a card where we could get a prelim.

If this was a ppv…I would happily throw down 50 dollars for this card. Wonder what the buyrate would have been? Anyways, I’m stoked about it being free!

Great card and smart move by UFC. The numbers this puts up will deff get them noticed by comcast and more than likely on NBC before the end of the year

i was jumping on this post to ask if you were putting your life savings on vera at +200, that line is just stupid, and someone is going to make a LOT of money because of it

Not much UFC bookies here that I know of..

and I really don’t bet much.. But If someone here offered me a bet, especially at those odds, I’d take it.

by Anton Tabuena on Jan 26, 2010 12:20 PM EST up reply actions

any idea where the odds came from? Bodog only has the Vera/Jones fight up now, but its at +210!

I don’t think it would be smart to put all of your money on the fight but at those odds a small play is pretty smart.

These records are strange.

From Sherdog:

Chieck Kongo 14-6-1
Clay Guida 25-11
Duane Ludwig 19-10
Alessio Sakara 14-7

Where did Kongo’s extra 10 wins come from??

This is terrible.

It totally sucks. Only a 4 fight main card? Cant the UFC and Versus stretch it to 2 and 1/2 hours or 3 hours?

SHit, I mean honestly, even the undercard is great. Really, you could take that undercard, take one of the main card fights, put that as the main event and it could be a full Fight Night card on Spike TV.

Thats how solid the undercard is, with Bang, Guida, Marshall, Vladdy, Shaub, Fisher, Pierce, Irvin.

I mean honestly, that right there, shit, fuck it, you dont even need a main card fight as the main event,

Fisher/Bang could be the main event, with the rest of that card, really, the undercard could be a Spike TV fight night.

So to know that its only a 2 hour 4 card show, we wont get to see all of these great undercard fights, thats really pissing me off. Why cant Versus and UFC come to terms and make it 3 hours?

WHat else does Versus have to show that anyone else cares about.

But yeah, this is without a doubt the best fight night card UFC has ever done.

You have this Versus card, UFC 111 and then Fight Night 21 all within like 11 days of each other, only the UFC could do that, talk about the best 11 day stretch in MMA history, wow.

not sure i agree with all of that, but yes… this card could definitely be pushed to a 3 hour show. especially if ratings are the primary objective.

i believe it was the fight night in omaha that was equally as stacked, when fans started bugging dana about, and they made the show three hours. one of you twitter savvy gents should start encouraging people to send him messages about it. couldn’t hurt.

cause Jones will lose another ‘boring’ decision… Or it could be exciting if he gets knocked out early.

He has never been involved in a boring decision, let alone lost one.

by Anton Tabuena on Jan 26, 2010 12:28 PM EST up reply actions

its going to be a decision win either way. I feel like Jones is going to come out balls to the wall in the first round, win it, and either find a way to close in the next two rounds, or gas and let vera steal them

They changed the last WEC show to 2 1/2 hours and it ran over if I’m remembering correctly. So I’m betting this gets pushed to at least a 2 1/2 hour broadcast and we will get to see more than just these 4 main card fights.

Just BE.

Good news folks:

“Fein said an advantage of Versus when it comes to live programming of both WEC and UFC is that they aren’t going to be as strict on the time slot.

For example, when Strikeforce had its debut event on CBS, there was a panic backstage because the network affiliates wanted to show to end at 11 p.m. ET because of the scheduled local newscasts. For Spike, the live UFC specials are usually there to build an audience for Spike to debut a series, so they want the new show being showcased to start as close to its advertised time as possible. Fein said if there is a great match on the undercard, they won’t have qualms about the show going well past the scheduled time slot to fit it in."

Yeah. That’s what I was going to say. Versus won’t cut one of their shows short beforehand (see that awful sports soup that ran into the WEC show a while back) but they will overrun gladly.

plus, VS is going to be leaning heavily on UFC programming, because theyre starting to compete with Spike. Have you seen the spike commercials that promote themselves as the true home of the UFC?

I assume that their decision is also affected by the ratings right?

Well this will be probably have a veryyy high rating with the way that card looks like.

That's part of the reason they didn't cut off Sports Soup...

all the tuning in for the WEC card boosted that SS show way higher than normal

Most of the WEC’s usually run about 2.5 hours. The last one with FABER/Assuncao ended after about 2.5 hours. I hope this UFC is at least that..

Yeah, it’s a pretty interesting aspect to things. But you’re right about the over reaction. I wrote about how it would be interesting to see the reaction to Rashad/Rampage for the title (when it would have been for the title) as it was the first battle between two African Americans for a world title in MMA…and (white) people lost their minds about me daring to bring it up.
