The match will use the muaythai format, although elbows will be disallowed at the request of Van Damme who is an actor and doesn’t want his face cut up or disfigured. Somluck will be paid just over $100,000 which does not include the income from broadcasting.
"I said I wasn’t lying," said Somluck. "I thought he was of much larger stature. But when we were standing next to each other, he wasn’t any bigger than me. So, I’m confident now. I’m better in muaythai techniques and I will have fun kicking the star. However, I won’t be careless and will keep training myself."
Somluck is also hoping to be able to fight other international martial arts stars.

And Van Damme is going to get beat down… just like Chuck Zito beat his ass down in a Las Vegas casino.

I thought it was a Tuscaloosa Bob Evans

Some people believe Van Damme’s mystique of invincibility was flattened by that KO. “I feel bad that I knocked all his movies directly into video release,” Zito says, smiling.

Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.
Oh jesus, this is going to be over in under 2 minutes. If JCVD doesn’t get ktfo instantly, he’ll quit from strikes.

Oh who cares?! This will be fun! I love me some JCVD so I’ll probably end up sad. But still…it’s all in good fun

I also loves me some freak shows.

Which makes this quote so much more promising. Mickey Rourke has boxing experience, get him in on this!

But Mickey Rourke is coming off an Oscar nom for The Wrestler and co-starring in Iron Man 2. He isn’t any where near desperate enough to do this.

At least they would allow elbow with Rourke
His face can’t possibly get any worse

This fight might actually make me cry a little.
JCVD was a huge part of my movie watching as a kid. It’s gonna be sad to see him beat up.

We’ve actually been covering this crazy story around the corner at HeadKickLegend pretty heavily. Latest update is that Van Damme himself publicly spoke about the fight at a press conference, so it looks like it really is happening. Alas, it will NOT be in Vegas though – been moved to Macau, China.
Check out the latest news here.
And may I just say, if you are not in some way down with this fight, I don’t know what to say to you. Is it two aged guys likely going easy on each other? Sure. Will it actually tell us what kind of kickboxer a prime JCVD would have been? Nope. But come on. JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME in a LEGIT FIGHT. That is awesome, and I refuse to hear otherwise.
