It’s nice. Not good enough. Streaming an online fight will get far fewer eyeballs to see this fight. And those eyeballs likely already know who Hieron is. He deserves to be on the main card on Showtime. Period.

"I fight because I can’t sing, I can’t dance, and it beats working all day. Now ask me a question that doesn’t sound so fucking stupid." – Phil Baroni
This.
They should’ve scrapped the Lashley fight for a bigger date and put Hieron/Riggs on the main card.
Plus they’re streaming one fight on a video game website. Come on.
2010 Seahawks Goals: Master the forward pass, sack the QB, and knock Arizona off their perch.
completely agree they could of saved Lashley for a later date especially with all the last minute arrangements for his fight. Riggs vs Heiron should be on the main card deff
"Frank Mir had a horseshoe up his ass. I told him a year ago. I pulled it out of him and I beat him over the head with it." Brock Lesnar
Putting it on instead of walker or lashley would have gotten far fewer eyeballs on everyone else on the card.

You think the same fan who is tuning in to see Lashley wouldn’t tune in to see Walker?

correct...
there is some crossover. But the Walker curiosity factor is a much older segment and much more based in “general sports fans.” As I said Saturday, I’ve done radio twice and the dan levy podcast once in recent weeks…and these general sports fans who know nothing about MMA are asking about walker non-stop.
I think Lashley’s appeal is more toward the younger end of the spectrum.
I think the two combine for more eyes than either alone.

You don’t think they’re hoping Lashley will draw some prowrestling fans? You don’t think they’re hoping Walker can rope in a bunch of curious football fans to his fight? Do you think it was a coincidence that a football legend was booked to fight on a card the day before the probowl and the week before the Superbowl?

Better than nothing.
Still should totally be on the air, but at least they are getting it out live. I’m a tad confused why it doesn’t go on Showtime or CBS’ websites, but hey, EA is doing good by them I guess.

Because both Joe Riggs and Jay Hieron will be appearing on the EA Sports MMA game and this is a good way for EA to advertise their game and their fighters. They will also be inviting MMA fighters to attend their Madden Bowl championship and after party during Super Bowl week to display their EA Sports MMA game along with NFL players in Miami.

Reading the comments I didn’t realize Jay Hieron had such a fan base. It appears a fan base that likes to bitch and complain a lot as well.
I didn't realize a contender's match..
in which the winner is in line to fight for the WW championship is less important than Herschel Walker and Bobby Lashley…. Especially when neither Riggs nor Hieron have had many chances to be exposed to the casual MMA fan, and StrikeForce is a promotion without a plethora of meaningful/marketable future fights.
I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.
lol.
They’re trying to get viewers and draw interest. You get that don’t you. Kinda why the UFC had a hard on to get Kimbo on TUF.
No matter how good a fighter some people might think Jay Hieron is nobody outside of people on mma forums or blogs will give a shit if his fight is on the undercard.
People bitch and complained that this fight wasn’t going to be seen. Now they can watch it and that’s still not good enough. Well to those people I’d say don’t watch. Get together with a bunch of friends put in your copy of UFC 100 and have a big circle jerk.

Right.
But they aren’t doing anything to make their talented WW contender into a star. When he fights for the title, the minimum fan reaction should be “Oh yeah, I saw this guy opening a show once I think. Yeah, didn’t we see this dude win that the night Joey puked on your cat?”
Strikeforce is called a promotion for a reason, lets see them promote one of their top fighters a little bit better.

and if they don’t show his fights on their events then he will stay that way. Honestly if your trying to build a guy up as a title contender then you probably want to push the shit out of him so that you can sell the title fight when it happens. It’s not just that people wanted to see this fight it’s that they wanted a lot of other people to see this fight and for it to get the viewership that it deserves. Just because you want to be a smart ass about it doesn’t change the fact that this is a number one contenders fight for the title that is headlining this event and it not being on the main card hurts the promotion long term.
I guess Scott Coker should be consulting you then about his promotions efforts to get viewers. With great advice like putting Hieron/Riggs on the main card as opposed to Bobby Lashley and Herschel Walker I’m sure he’d be bending over backwards to get you on board.

Your so cool with your bad boy attitude like a 12 year old Tito Ortiz. You do know we are on the internet right, nothing ether one of us thinks matters at all nor does anyone care, these discussions are for personal entertainment only. We aren’t changing the sport with our witty observations If you want to discuss MMA then this is the place, if you want to be a super cool hipster know it all with a big chip on your shoulder then there are other places that cater to that.
I resent being compared to Tito Ortiz.. That’s hitting below the belt.

Remember:
-In Affliction, Hieron vs. High got bumped from the live prelims on HDNet to after the main event, after everyone had left. It wasn’t aired until a week later on Inside MMA.
-In SF: Carano vs. Cyborg, Hieron was originally supposed to fight Diaz for the WW belt. But Diaz’s weed troubles got that fight scrapped. Instead he fought JT in an untelevised prelim non-title bout, on a show that only televised 4 events (3 of which ended in the 1st round).
-Now, again instead of fighting Diaz for the belt, he’s bumped to the prelims in a fight that’s only going to be shown online. Instead of this #1 contender bout, we get to watch a retired football player and a pro-wrestler beat up on last minute tomato cans.
Even if you don’t care about him as a fighter it’s pretty obvious he’s getting consistently screwed and should fire his agent ASAP.

Hieron wouldn’t be in this position if he’d have accepted a fight with Zaromskis. His excuse that no one knows him that’s why he turned it down is lame because the average Joe doesn’t know Jay Hieron either.
by scrambledeggs on Jan 25, 2010 8:37 PM EST up reply actions
Why would he? It’s a high risk/low reward fight and he probably assumed a title fight against Diaz (or even Riggs) was still his for the taking.
If you were Hieron and wanted to get televised, would you rather fight a.) a very beatable UFC veteran with lots of name recognition or b.) a hot-streaking Lithuanian who’s never fought in the USA and has an unpronounceable name?
by George Lucas on Jan 25, 2010 9:07 PM EST up reply actions
Well considering that hot-streaking Lithuanian who’s never fought in the US with the unpronounceable name is in the main event and the UFC veteran is against you on the undercard yes I’d say Hieron made a mistake.

He’s the one constantly signing with non-Zuffa companies…

Probably because he doesn’t want to fight for an organization that would ban what few sponsorships he still has.
by George Lucas on Jan 25, 2010 9:09 PM EST up reply actions
Ironically, Hieron gets more TV time at UFC events cornering his teammates than he does in the organizations he actually fights for.

The number one difference is
if, in the UFC, you put on a good fight or impressive victory, there’s an excellent chance you’ll make the main broadcast regardless of where else the fight is showcased. There is no such chance in Strikeforce. A web broadcast fight it extra exposure for a fight, not the only exposure.
Diaz is favored over Zaromskis?
That sounds like easy money.

I hate Diaz' antics...
but the guy is fucking tough. He’ll never be super elite like a Penn/GSP/Silva, but he is near the top of the heap. Has fantastic BJJ, and above-average striking. I’d favor him over mini-head-kick as well.
BOOSH
Yep
I got him winning this one.

Agreed
My heart may be saying Zaromski but my head is definitely telling me to put my money on Diaz.
