Strikeforce Challengers: Prangley vs. Amoussou and MFC 24: Heat XC Fight Cards

Both are set for Friday February 26th:

Strikeforce Challengers: Prangley vs. Amoussou (on Showtime):

This is a great card for their next Challengers event. All of these fights are very competitive on paper, and feature a bunch of up and coming talent. Amoussou, Kaufman, Rockhold, Bradley, Saffiedine and Medeiros are all considered very bright prospects, and all of them are 25 or younger except for Bradley, who is 26.

MFC 24: Heat XC (on HDNet):

"This year, I’ve made it clear to the fighters in our organization that I want them to be exciting, get the crowd out their seats, and end fights in style. Derrick and Yves are the kind of fighters that won’t sit back, they won’t lay around, and they won’t be looking to drag things out."

I wasn’t even aware Karl Amoussou had signed a deal with Strikeforce. Certainly is good news he’ll be fighting on a network where I’ll get to see him.

Can’t wait to see Sarah Kaufman again.

For a title no less, which hopefully means more rounds in the fight. I am unfamiliar with Takayo Hashi, but I will youtube her fights if possible, but can anyone tell me anything about her like her strengths or weaknesses in MMA? Is she a legit 135 pounder?

by chrisbboy82 on Jan 20, 2010 3:53 PM EST up reply actions

She is legit; she’s a grappler primarily and tends to use good positional control to work for submissions while smothering her opponent. She does have power, but her technique isn’t the greatest. She trains with a decent gym in Tokyo, as far as I know; the same one that Roxy Modafferri trains at, I think.

Everyone knows I’m a fanboy, but I honestly don’t see her beating Kaufman. She doesn’t have the power or the technique to KO her, and Kaufman’s beaten better grapplers (and may actually be a better grappler, though you don’t see it often).

Amoussou has a fight against Robert Jocz, January 30th in Holland.

by Venom77

I have a lot of questions – Is he going to drop out of the Holland card, the Strikeforce card, or does he plan on fighting on both? – Has he signed with Strikeforce? I thought he had signed a 4-fight deal with Dream?

by nottheface

Even if he is signed with Dream it doesn’t matter because they exchange talent.

About Holland bout, I’m not sure. Fight against Jocz is a co-promotion between Beast of the East and M-1, which also involves Karatas vs. Tredowski fight at M-1 show, February 5th. I guess the Beast of the East guys won’t be happy if Amoussou would drop out of thier card.

by Venom77

I know Dream and Strikeforce allow their fighters to sign with each other, but what I should have written was that I read that Karl had signed an exclusive 4-fight deal with Dream.
I’ll be surprised if StrikeForce doesn’t end up doing a M-1/ Challengers show at some point next year.

by nottheface

Not bad, but a little sad to see TBA wont be fighting on this card

by DamnSevern

If Castillo is Raul Castillo (6-0) and Medeiros is Yancy Medeiros (4-0) this is finally a really well-matched challengers card without useless fights.

by Venom77

ya..I’m impressed, finally.

Fuck

Now I can’t claim I was misquoted.

Mark Pavelich is not a good promoter. That is all I’m going to say about him.

As for the Strikeforce card….. Prangley has a ground game and Amoussou’s is non-existant. If Prangley gets it to the ground, it should be over quickly.

And Rockhold needs to be fighting better competition than Paul Bradley. It’s a step down from even Jesse Taylor, his last win.

I disagree. Bradley’s a better wrestler than Taylor and his only pro loss is to Mike Pierce. He’s a talented (if a bit boring) competitor.

Bradley is a WW, I guess

Bradley vs Rockhold is a GREAT fight.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Jan 20, 2010 4:14 PM EST up reply actions

Amoussou's ground game is far from non-existant...

he has 7 subs in 11 career wins, although not exactly against great competition. Prangley still has the better ground game as you mentioned though.

I wonder how Mark Pavelich feels about Strikeforce’s Challengers card being better than MFC 24, considering he thinks he has the #2 Organization.

Maybe he is right, is MFC #2? :P

by CSKit on Jan 20, 2010 4:26 PM EST reply actions

I’m sure if he goes back and watches his last couple of cards that he’ll think otherwise because aside from the Nickles/Heath fight those cards have sucked.

by scrambledeggs on Jan 20, 2010 5:03 PM EST up reply actions

I think some of his comments here are motivated by horrible snoozers like the last Dean Lister fight…

Dont really care too much for the MFC card, and the SF challengers card isnt really anything to me.

Dont care about female mma, but the main event is a good fight I’m interested in. Karl is a beast and Trevor isnt bad.

Thats a good fight.

Paul Bradley? That isnt the guy from TUF show is it? Him and Rockhold is a solid fight. the rest of the fights I dont care for.

I guess its ok for a challengers card. What about Tyron Woodley? When is he gonna fight again?

by KRS827 on Jan 20, 2010 4:34 PM EST reply actions

If Strikeforce fills this undercard with amateur fights its a farce.

by Pontus on Jan 20, 2010 6:22 PM EST reply actions

I think its actually a pretty interesting idea.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Jan 20, 2010 6:39 PM EST up reply actions

It seems greedy for me..

Lesser promotions can have amateur bouts, with Strikeforce being as big as they shouldn’t be doing this.. Imagine a UFC Fight Night with amaetur bouts on the undercards.. Thats not interesting.. thats just a farce.
Plus Strikeforce seems to have trouble giving their fighters fights, why have even less fights for their pro roster by population challenger shows with amateurs?

by Pontus on Jan 20, 2010 8:21 PM EST up reply actions

This is the Challengers card, basically their feeder program so I wouldn’t compare to a UFC, WEC, or any other Strikeforce card.
Personally I don’t mind them booking a couple of amateur fights to the undercard, but I am firmly against them using only amateurs so they can get around paying people.

by John Nash on Jan 20, 2010 8:59 PM EST up reply actions

PLUS...

The prelims don’t get televised anyways. I also like tying the concept of a Challenger’s card with top amateur fighters. It is pretty much like having your own farm system.

KOTC signs deal with HDNet!!!

The only question now is if HDNet will televise the KOTC Japan and Philippines events now?
