UFC 108 Results: Junior Dos Santos Knocks Out Gilbert Yvel

Photo by Dave Mandel via Sherdog

Heavy hitters, Gilbert Yvel and Junior Dos Santos opened the pay per view portion of the card with some fireworks. PRIDE veteran Yvel, made his debut looking to derail the meteoric rise of "Cigano', who was undefeated in the UFC, but that proved to be unsuccessful.

The two came out aggressive and looked to strike from the opening bell. Dos Santos used his boxing and looked to land the more crisp shots early on, until he landed that huge left hook that put Yvel down. He followed it up with heavy shots on the ground which forced the referee to stop the fight on 2:07 of the very first round.

Dos Santos, cauliflower ear and all, now has four straight UFC knockout victories over Fabricio Werdum, Stefan Struve, Mirko Cro Cop and Gilbert Yvel. Pretty Impressive.

Cigano and those uppercuts of his. Jeebus.

he made Cro Cop fold and not want to strike… I say that’s more of a TKO than a “submission”.

What a great striker, you can clearly see the leg rotation on that hook in the gif. Would like to see more of what he has on the ground too, but training at black house with the Nogs and Silva, I’m sure he can hold his own there as well.

The HW contenders list is looking more stacked than any other division right now, in my opinion. Especially with Brock’s inexperience and the questions about his physical condition when he returns. It is getting really hard to foresee anybody keeping the HW strap for long in the next couple of years, so many guys bringing so many different combinations of strength, atleticism, and technique. Great fights over the horizon in this division.

And NEW UFC Welterweight Champion of the World.....Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy!

And to think

this guy DIDNT make the list of fighters to watch over the next 10 years! I would take JDS over Cain in a heart beat.
