Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Mitrione Rumored for UFC 113

Photo

As pointed out in a fanshot on this site yesterday, Five Ounces of Pain is reporting that Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson will make is return to the Octagon at UFC 113 in Montreal against Ultimate Fighter season-mate Matt Mitrione.  MMA Junkie then reported last night that both Slice and Mitrione had accepted the bout but contracts have not been signed.

However, an hour after the post went up on Junkie, Mitrione was on his facebook saying the following:

The rumors are NOT true. I have not been contacted by anyone about fighting anyone. I'd love for it to be true, but its not.

I'm much more inclined to say that Mitrione knows better than Five Oz. (who seems to be wrong a lot lately) and Junkie given that the fight involves him.

If the fight does happen it could be a good one for Mitrione.  His chin has shown to be quite solid and Slice's power is clearly overhyped.  If Mitrione can draw Kimbo into some power shot exchanges he could come out the winner.

Yeah it's kinda scary

I’m 26 as well. Kinda makes me want to stop eating burgers and fries.

On topic- kimbo will lose this fight for sure if it happens

I'm no doctor but...

I was involved in some screening for a study of the heart and my job was to look over thousands of medical charts which were the results of dozens of tests on individuals who had survived a heart attack before the tests were taken.

What I found was interesting, perhaps some of you out there have other information and can support or contradict what I found. If someone had a heart attack in their 20’s, their medical history showed an admission to the heavy use of drugs (usually mushrooms or cocaine). If they had a heart attack in their 30’s they had two of the three risk factors: heavy smoking (more than one pack per day), heavy alcohol abuse (eight to ten drinks per day), excessive coffee drinking (more than two pots per day). If they had a heart attack in their forties, they usually only had one of those three risk factors. After the forties, I did not see a common risk factor.

I don’t know how many burgers/fries you eat, RiverHorror, but in my opinion you will probably live until your forties at least unless you are at risk from other, more severe, factors. But, like I said, I’m not a doctor, and I could be WAY off base here.

by Dabro on Jan 17, 2010 2:06 PM EST up reply actions

the 8-10 alchoholic drinks would have to be every day to be a risk factor wouldn’t it? I drink about that many, but not daily, about once a week

bad matchup for kimbo

although that could be said about him fighting anybody he really isnt that good

by milk72 on Jan 17, 2010 1:32 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

Right

Everyone keeps saying “bad matchup for Kimbo”, well who in the UFC that fights at LHW or HW would be a good matchup for him? He’s at least a 2-1 dog against almost all the guys currently on the roster, at least in Mitrione he’d be facing someone with even less experience than he has.

by ufc4 on Jan 17, 2010 1:38 PM EST up reply actions

After watching Houston Alexander get pummeled last night it’s obvious there are more guys in the UFC Kimbo’s going to beat.

by scrambledeggs on Jan 17, 2010 1:46 PM EST up reply actions

Like who?

It’s pretty obvious that Houston was the bottom of the barrell as far as UFC fighters go, there’s a reason his previous fight was outside the organization.

by ufc4 on Jan 17, 2010 1:58 PM EST up reply actions

Wasn’t obvious before the fight. People had Houston murdering Kimbo. And I remember reading somewhere on this site one of the mods (this was a little while back) saying that Houston was the best pure striker in the LHW division

by TLow on Jan 17, 2010 2:03 PM EST up reply actions

That’s because Kimbo sucks, not because Houston is some great fighter. And Houston the best pure striker at LHW? That’s laughable.

by ufc4 on Jan 17, 2010 2:05 PM EST up reply actions

I assume you’re talking about me. But I never said that. I said that he had possibly the best p4p striking power and that his technique was much more refined than Kimbo.

If that fight were to happen again tomorrow I’d still strongly consider picking Houston.

Agreed, but he was still beaten.. And the one round where there was any significant amount of engagement, Kimbo won.

by TLow on Jan 17, 2010 3:35 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry I misquoted you. And no question there’s a very good chance he wins a rematch (hell, an argument can be made he deserved the first match.)

But it doesn’t take away from my point. I’m just saying it’s easy now to say “Well, Houston sucks” and minimize the win, but at the time he was considered a very dangerous and legit opponent for Slice, and so its a pretty significant victory. Beating a guy some people considered had possibly the best p4p striking power is something.

Its sort of like the Fedor vs Arlovski/Sylvia debate…

by TLow on Jan 17, 2010 3:34 PM EST up reply actions

At the time he was considered dangerous for Kimbo- not for anyone else in the division. You act like people were saying Houston was some kind of wrecking machine, maybe when he first came on the scene but not any time recently. I’m impressed that Kimbo beat Houston, it doesn’t change the fact that he will still be fighting the worst fighters that the UFC has to offer and will be an underdog to almost all of them.

by ufc4 on Jan 17, 2010 3:45 PM EST up reply actions

thats actually exactly what i said kimbo sucks its common knowledge

by milk72 on Jan 17, 2010 2:01 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

This is it

It’s the UFC and if he can’t beat Matt and then either Hardonk or Al-Turk then he can’t cut it. Hopefully the powers that be don’t listen to us fanboys clamoring for Sean Gannon or a Seth rematch.

by John Nash on Jan 17, 2010 2:13 PM EST via mobile up reply actions   1 recs

Edit: I shouldn’t have written “beat”, but instead “hang with”.

by John Nash on Jan 17, 2010 2:14 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Well to start with he very well might beat Mitrione, but my point is that Houston isn’t a very good fighter by any stretch and he managed two wing in the UFC.
If Kimbo gets another win or two I wouldn’t be shocked. He’s not going to be matched up with top fighters.

by scrambledeggs on Jan 17, 2010 2:02 PM EST reply actions

I wouldn't be surprised if Mitrione

was instructed by Zuffa to deny any knowledge of the bout given the UFC’s recent push to prevent fight news from leaking too early.

by Scott Haber on Jan 17, 2010 2:22 PM EST reply actions

I was thinking the same thing

Mitrione makes a lot of sense as far as who Kimbo’s next opponent should be in the UFC, so as to not spoil the surprise, I can see Zuffa telling Mitrione or his camp not to leak this fight (and the same goes for Kombo and his camp who have not said anything). I will take Mitrione on this fight, but I would not be surprised if Kimbo takes this. It’s win-win for the UFC because Kimbo is a fan favorite and a win will just make him more marketable. Similarly, Mitrione is very hated (but in that way where fans would pay to see him lose), and him beating Kimbo would raise Mitrione’s stock and make more fans want to see him lose.

by chrisbboy82 on Jan 17, 2010 6:29 PM EST up reply actions

I was thinking Kimbo vs. Pat Barry but I guess ZUFFA wants to keep the cash cow as long as possible

If Mitrione can draw Kimbo into some power shot exchanges he could come out the winner.

You’re right. It looks exactly like I’m praying for Kimbo to lose. By saying that his power is overhyped (which has proven out) and that Mitrione’s chin has been shown to be solid (which has been proven)…and then saying that if he can draw him into some exchanges he COULD come out the winner. it’s like I’m just praying to the lord for Kimbo to lose.

I’m so glad your reading skills are so well refined.

I mean this as a compliment.

I’m not sure who on staff is more of a sarcastic dick between you and Fagan. I would love to see you two get into an argument in a comments section. Or maybe have a slightly more serious version of the Ben vs. Ben features they do on Cage Potato?

It’s not “the haters” fault that Kimbo sucks. And after TUF it seems to me that about 75% of the people on here have been rooting for Kimbo.

by ufc4 on Jan 17, 2010 3:49 PM EST up reply actions

Everyone’s reaction from TUF 10 seamed about the same: Kimbo’s seems like a great guy it just sucks the he’s not that good.

by John Nash on Jan 17, 2010 4:51 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Yeah

The way I look at him is that he’s an over-achieving underdog just trying to keep his place on the roster. He definitely should not have won the fight with Houston.

While sources close to Mitrione have said he has yet to be approached about the fight, the heavy handed duo are considered highly likely to face off on May 1 from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

Yeah, so Mitrione said it wasn’t true… but fuck him!

PRO TIP: If it was written by Cory Brady, it probably isn’t accurate

I actually think this is a fairly even matchup. Neither guy has a ground game and both are sloppy brawlers. Mitrione took awhile to finish big baby who has a glass jaw and couldnt finish Junk on the show, so I’m not really sold on his power yet either. Honestly neither guy is that good and this fight could go either way in my mind.

by Sliup on Jan 17, 2010 4:15 PM EST reply actions

Mitrione’s stand up makes kimbo look like Apollo Creed. Kimbo is more compact and precise and he got a guard unlike mitrione (maybe mitrione got a guard when he isn’t gassed, I can’t tell).

Yep

I find is peculiar that people on here who say they know about boxing have any positive feelings about Mitrione’s hands. He looks like a bear would if someone tried to train one to box.

Howd quickly we forget the forcasts available to us from TUF 10

Like the sparring and rolling on TUF 10 with Kimbo bopping Matt around pretty good as well as Dumping him on his head. Also, Matt complaining that he was too “rough”. A decent indicator.

i would like kimbo to win the same way he did over alexander.

1 good pickup and a good slam to the canvas. than some gnp. i just hope it’s more exciting then kimbos last matchup. that first rouind was boring with houston on his heels circling the ring and kimbo stalking him but not really doing anything. just be explosive this time kimbo and you can beat this guy.

i'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. i was building a house, i don't deserve this, deserves have nothing to do with it. bang. "unforgiven"
