This is such a silly argument by Diaz. Look a Fedor’s face after his some of fights.

Just because it's not always relevant

doesn’t mean it isn’t relevant this time. Not everything needs to be a universal truth, Kant!

Its just a lame point to try to use. If he wants to prove he won mention mention almost subbing him or knocking him down or taking him down over and over. Oh, wait, he didn’t do those things.

by swells2048 on Jan 13, 2010 8:42 PM EST up reply actions   2 recs

gray wasnt doing much of any of that either.

by zakkree on Jan 14, 2010 8:48 PM EST up reply actions

Not once did Nate hurt Maynard. Gray ended up landing the more devastating blows and hurt Diaz in the fight which gave him the edge. And my point was that some people bruise and bleed a lot easier than others.

He did drop gray at least once, with gray jumping back to his feet and throwing his hands up in the air in the infamous “you didnt hurt me” attitude. And every commentator ive ever heard says thats what they do when it actually hurts.

by zakkree on Jan 14, 2010 8:48 PM EST up reply actions

I’m not a huge Diaz fan but he does have a point. Maynard landed more strikes the first round though many were to the body. Since there wasn’t any grappling or submission attempts to speak of then Diaz is right, it needs to be judged on strikes.

Both fighters pushed the pace at different times and there wasn’t any difference in octagon control. Plus he’s dead on about how much Maynard was talked up and about how the commentators were massaging him. Maynard threw a ton of shitty, looping punches but neither Rogan or Goldberg said anything negative about it.

by NateDouble on Jan 13, 2010 6:28 PM EST reply actions

I thought they were more one sided in the Sadollah fight to be honest… at one point Blackburn knocked him down and they were too busy talking about how awesome Sadollah is to even mention it.

by brad23 on Jan 13, 2010 6:56 PM EST up reply actions

I agree. They were talking about Amir like he was Anderson Silva. Amir was winning, but the commentary was one sided. Not Frank Mir on Faber/Torres one-sided, but one-sided nonetheless.

by MMAEruption on Jan 13, 2010 8:46 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t know about this. Sadollah’s striking looked as crisp as Rogan and Goldie were painting it. Diaz and Maynard both just looked like dog’s poop

Amir was a completely different fighter than the one who fought Hendricks. He deserved the props, Maynard and Diaz deserved each other.

by Skoobs on Jan 13, 2010 9:04 PM EST up reply actions

I could see if there was some time to point out his performance in that fight to this fight and how its different and what hes doing better but the Hendricks fight went a whole 29 seconds

by Shocbomb on Jan 14, 2010 5:18 AM EST up reply actions

Amir looked like he got beat up for 3 rounds while I don’t remember Brad being marked up much at all. I don’t see Brad with a Youtube video asking us to look at Amir’s face.

Hahaha

Ok “Nate” and “Brad” we know who you are…….

I didn’t even think about it from that point of view… I’m not Brad Blackburn, honest :)

Tell Nate Diaz

to knock a guy on his ass every now and then and he may win some rounds.

Nate Diaz for President.

by INGO B on Jan 13, 2010 6:55 PM EST reply actions   2 recs

Diaz shouldn't be whining

But I’d probably do the same after losing a fight that should have been a draw.

by OptimusPiss on Jan 13, 2010 7:11 PM EST reply actions

One of the worst fights I’ve seen all year. Neither of these guys know how to box, and if they do, they certainly don’t know how to use it. I’m dumbfounded that Nate can’t throw a decent head kick.

by goodbones on Jan 13, 2010 7:36 PM EST reply actions

You know a fight is bad when the crowd boos a sloppy stand-up war.

by MMAEruption on Jan 13, 2010 8:46 PM EST up reply actions   2 recs

I thought the same damn thing!

As one who hates gray maynard’s normal boring wrestling decisions…. I was screaming at the TV for him to take Nate down. I was just praying some old boxing fan didn’t decide to give MMA its first chance during this fight.

by zakkree on Jan 14, 2010 8:50 PM EST up reply actions

"watch the fight again"

LOL, you’ve got to be kidding me.

Nate needs to realize that as far as scoring is concerned, power strikes count more than pitter-patter jabs, cuts, and weak leg kicks. He needs to seriously work on his stand-up and wrestling or he’ll never find himself in a contender spot with his career.

If a fight is close enough to be a draw

How is it so wrong that Maynard won?

Also the first cut on Maynard was from a headbutt.

by swells2048 on Jan 13, 2010 8:40 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

I also found it funny

that he said it never went to the ground and he was the only one credited with takedown attempts. Way to make a point for Maynard.

by swells2048 on Jan 13, 2010 8:44 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

If defending takedowns scored points

then Vera beat the shit out of Couture.

Well its supposed to score points. I don’t think it means you beat the shit out of someone either.

by swells2048 on Jan 13, 2010 11:39 PM EST up reply actions

I was unclear on the rules before.

If the favored fighter defends a takedown, he gets rewarded by the judges for dictating the location of the fight. If the other fighter defends takedowns, the favored fighter gets points for aggression and keeping the other guy on the defensive. Makes perfect sense. Thanks, MMA judging!

Ya know, Nate may be on to something here. Lets get rid of judges and lets start deciding winners based solely on how the fighters’ faces look after the fight.
