i wouldnt say HATE, but i have never been a chuck fan, NEVER. and the japanese MMA fan inside of me wants to see a mismatch of epic porportions where chuck gets smashed into retirement by MEGAREEM!
hes just entertaining to watch! remember when he nearly jumped out of the cage against thompson? that was sweet

Meh.

Remember when he used to fight legit MMA athletes?

THAT was sweet.

I respect the hell out of what he is doing in K-1 (fighting the best and more than holding his own), but I have no respect for his MMA career anymore.

absolutely

i would prefer to see him fight legit MMA competition, and i assume he will very soon. All im saying is i love this new Ubereem from a pure entertainment perspective

1. Are they gonna filter out the matches so that only UFC fighters win.
2. Wasn’t their a UFC vs Pride thing goin on and UFC got leveled? (Somebody educate me)
3. What year was that fight? Cause….Pride-Dan Henderson got a lil bigger, got some muscles when he became UFC-Dan Henderson. Pride-Overeem is a LOT smaller compared to Japan-Overeem.

by Krimson on Jan 12, 2010 10:41 PM EST reply actions

  1. Of course they will. Wanderlei, Lil Nog, Big Nog (minus Fedor fights), Cro Cop, and Shogun should get plenty of airtime though.
  2. Summary: Liddell beat Alistair then lost to Rampage in Pride. Pride never sent anybody to the UFC. Dana was pissed.

Don’t forget about Chuck’s win over Mezger.

by Steve4192 on Jan 13, 2010 12:09 AM EST up reply actions

A little more history on pride VS UFC thing. The UFC also sent over Yves Edwards for the LW GP, Yves beat Dokonjonosuke Mishima and then lost a real close split decision to Joachim Hansen. Also before Chuck Fought Overeem he also Beat Guy Mezger in this tournament.

One thing I d remember back then was how upset most were when Chuck lost to Rampage because most all ready had the final being Chuck vs Wand. To finally see ounce and for all who the best 205er in the world was.

by Shocbomb on Jan 13, 2010 12:17 AM EST up reply actions

UFC sent Ricco Rodriguez to fight Big Nog after losing his title to Tim Sylvia.

music issues… the music is only licensed for the live broadcast.. you have to purchase the publishing rights for any replays of the event.. that is why most walkouts are cut out of the DVDs

What an outrage!

They want to introduce UFC fans to the PRIDE series by showing the most popular Zuffa fighter of all time winning a fight overseas! Why not Mezger??? Leave Coker alone!

Say what you will about Overeem in this fight

But his striking was crisp. His ground game has improved, as has his takedown defense. His striking has only gotten better. If the guy ever fights some real competition I think he’ll be a force at heavyweight.

If he fought Liddell today, it’d have to be in Japan— that probably couldn’t get sanctioned in the US.

Ya know, hate being the guy whose all like MMAMath proves Overeem is overrated, but Overeem is overrated. When was the last time he beat a top ten guy in MMA? Belfort in 2006?

He caught Hari when he was a wreck—- lost the GP and stripped of his title a few weeks before. He lost to Bonjansky, he decisioned Aerts, KTFO out of Texeira, and frankly got owned during the Hari rematch.

I think about 80% of the attention he gets is cause he looks like an action hero. It’s the opposite of Roy Nelson syndrome.

It’s not just how he looks, it’s the obvious athleticism he has displayed in recent fights. When you can throw flying knees that look like they could KO Stephan Struve, people take notice.

It’s easy to do flashy moves when you’re fighting the James Thompsons of the world.

When he pisses clean and beats someone of note, I’ll take notice.

hahaha ahahaha fuck! i’m rec’ing

by Matthew Roth on Jan 13, 2010 11:06 AM EST up reply actions

Ok, that's ridiculous logic.

Overeem is a primarily submission fighter in MMA, with 19 submission wins compared to 12 (T)KOs and 1 decision. In K1 he decisively decisioned Peter Aerts, who, while fading, is still a living legend. And not nearly as shot as someone like Jerome LeBanner. He beat Badr Hari (arguably the best striker alive) with good fundamentals, and is now 1-1 with him. He kneed Texeira, a top 10 heavyweight, into the fifth fucking dimension. He did still lose to Bojanski, a guy with some of the best striking defense known to man and a top 3 competitor. His record is shameful, really…

Even if he goes .500 from now on in K1, he’s only fighting the very cream of the crop. Holding any of those losses against him as proof that he’s overrated is silly. Now if you want to knock him for taking fights against Fujita and Thompson, I’ll be right with you in the echo chamber.

I just hope these fights aren't edited the same way FSN edited them.

The same 5 shots of the crowd played over and over during the most violent parts of the fights, including finishes, is a horrible way to edit them. I didn’t mind them cutting a few minutes out of the 10-minute 1st round as long as nothing significant occurred, but cutting away from action is WRONG!!!

by TDITZ on Jan 13, 2010 9:35 AM EST reply actions

Watch the video

They specifically mentioned stomps as one of their selling points.

Plus, SpikeTV has never edited fights before, I see no reason to believe they will start now.

will they show fedor at all?

he has some of the best pride fights, his wars with nog, cro cop, randleman suplexing him

but i feel like its gonna be wandy highlights, cro cop highlights and highlighting other ufc guys who used to be stars in pride like shogun and rampage

by milk72 on Jan 13, 2010 11:23 AM EST reply actions

I think they’ll show everybody BUT Fedor.

They will definitely concentrate on guys currently in the UFC, but their repeated use of Frye-Takayama in the promos proves that they are willing to dedicate a little bit of time to non-Zuffa fighters. However, due to Fedor’s status and presence on a major broadcast network, they will make sure the only time he is seen is when they show glimpses of him getting rocked by Fujita and Randleplexed.

by Steve4192 on Jan 13, 2010 12:21 PM EST up reply actions

this promo

shows the immortal RANDLEPLEX!!!.. so i guess they might show fedor??
