I really, really like this fight

Kiiiiiinda pulling for the Killa Bee on this one. There is some pretty sweet welterweight action on this card in general.

Kampmann is going to get wrecked if he doesn’t learn how to not use his face to deflect punches.

Unrelated question for you. do you train at the USA JJ in Springfield? or do you just support the cause? A friend and I stumbled upon it while in town for FN. Saw your photo and clicked into your sbnation profile, favorite fighter Yuki Nakai. We happened to watch Choke while we were killing time before the event, Nakai’s last bouts. So were you stalking us?

Some people think I am a dumb, ugly human being, but really I am a beautiful ape, with exceptional verbal skills.

I do train at USAJJ in Springfield, the cause is kinda secondary to me (PapaJohn is really getting positive movement on it though) and Gilson Fernandes is up from Brazil this week kicking the shit out of us in training (it’s amazing). Rigan Machado is visiting in March sometime and Drysdale is coming by in a couple months as well, USAJJ is terrific to train at, great people and great jiu jitsu.

Yuki Nakai is definitely one of my favorite fighters, I have the utmost respect for him and it’s a dream of mine to check out his Tokyo school one day.

So I don’t think I was stalking you, but maybe I was?

Right on. I might have to hit the mats there next time I am in town. I have family very close and I stay with them three or four times a year. Never thought Drysdale would be that close. The JJ around this area is really growing a lot. lots of great schools.

Yeah, it’s a terrific boom area for jiu jitsu, so many good schools now.

50/50 up in Arlington
the bajillion TLI schools
Yamasaki schools
DeLaRiva in Sterling
Leo Dalla schools
USAJJ
Renzo Academy in D.C.
Balance in Baltimore

The list goes on and on. USAJJ recently has been getting great guests in, Johnny Ramirez was in town a while back, Gilson Fernandes is in town right now, and all those other amazing guys are heading over later in the year! Training’s never been tougher or better!

Just hoping that Kampmann is gonna fight smart this time.

Any guesses on which fight gets the last Main card slot? I’m assuming the top 4 fights are:

GSP-Hardy
Mir-Carwin
Alves-Fitch
Almeida-Brown

some solid contenders for the 5th slot already, and Pellegrino doesn’t even have his opponent announced

by Hardcharger on Jan 12, 2010 3:04 PM EST up reply actions

I would guarentee Almeida-Brown on the PPV but most likely

obviously your top 3 matches will be on the PPV and Almeida – Brown and Saunders – Kampmann will make it on air weather PPV or Spike Prelim’s.

Depending on who Pelligrino gets he is almost a shoe in for the PPV or Spike Prelim’s and it also depends how many more matches they add and the quality of them.

by bigdmmafan on Jan 12, 2010 3:08 PM EST up reply actions

So let’s say Pellegrino vs. Big name for the last PPV slot

That would give us

Saunders-Kampman
Miller – Bocek

for the free SPIKE prelims. Incredible.

by Hardcharger on Jan 12, 2010 4:25 PM EST up reply actions

Assuming Pellegrino's opponent is someone along the lines of

Tyson Griffin or Gomi, I’m thinking we’ll see him get the final main card spot.

Jim Miller’s also a Jersey boy, but Bocek isn’t much of a draw.

I can’t say enough how much I like the staredown mockups.

Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.

mock up?

why is dana’s left arm and shoulder hanging so low? And is it a different color sleeve? I also had no idea martin was so tall.

From Saunders's point of view

this is probably the worst time for him to fight Kampmann, as Kampmann has just had two fights in a row where he ate more punches than he should have. If Kampmann is going to learn not to stand with guys when he shouldn’t, he’s going to learn it right now.

If he makes the same mistakes against Saunders that he did against Volkmann, Saunders will kill him.

I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

by Llewdor on Jan 12, 2010 4:07 PM EST reply actions

you have a valid point

but will the ego of KAMPMANN let him fight Saunder smarter?

nah i dont think so. I used to be a fan of Martin, but he just turned out to be a B level fighter who doesnt know how to use their intelligence in the fight.

I hope Ben break Martin’s face with his vicious knee strikes.

*BTW fighters who use their intelligence in the fight: Gegard Mousasi, Fedor Emelieanko, Sakuraba n GSP as well.

Those don’t: Martin, Tim Sylvia, and Sokoudjou.

You have to beat the legend, in order to become the LEGEND

One of my favourite fights ever was Saunders over Wolff

where Saunders didn’t throw an effective punch at any point on his feet and yet won a vicious TKO with just knees and kicks.

I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

Well, he WAS using his hands: holding onto an iron-clad Thai clinch!

I had no idea. I’ll have to look into alternative means. Got some friends in the area in media, maybe they can score some freebies or something..

very nice match-up. was a Killa Bee fan since he started fighting here, but then the Swick fight confused and bothered me. his clinch is nasty.
