Quote of the Day: Alistair Overeem Wants Fedor Emelianenko in May or June
"In March I have other obligations with K-1. So I think April is a little bit too close to do such an important fight. So March, K-1 and then May-June, Fedor. That's the plan."
"I'm a little bit tired so first thing I'm going to take a really nice holiday. I want to fight Fedor in May or June, so he's my primary target from now on. I'll be training for him and for him only."

Except for the fact that Fedor probably wont want May or June
after fighting in April.
Plus CBS would be stupid to do a show during the summer(June/July/August) because that is when the least amount of people watch tv. You need to do fall and spring shows so you can advertise during football and the ncaa men’s basketball tournament.
So maybe after beating Werdum we might get Fedor/Overeem in Sept./Oct..

Hey Overeem:
:p
The path to my fixed purpose is laid with iron rails, whereon my soul is grooved to run. Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering BROCKLESNAR; to the last I grapple with thee.

Are you saying he hit Super Sayain 3 already?
Or is he currently still just an Ascended Sayain? I’d shit myself if he came to a fight with his hair grown out, spiked, and dyed blond.
Ricky Hatton came closer to beating Manny Pacquiao than Marquez did to beating Floyd.

to be ultra dorky, it would just be into the great ape, not the super saiyan great ape. The great ape from the original dragonball.

I'm sorry, there is nobody more overrated than Overeem
Because he fights every month in both K-1 and MMA, I respect him. But who does he fight? Fujita and Goodridge? Every time he’s stepped up to a top fighter he’s lost (Shogun and Rogerio twice, Liddell, Arona, Werdum), and his best win is against Vitor Belfort and Paul Buentello.
I think Fedor will absolutely curbstomp Overeem.

He will soon be the #2 HW in the world.
Wait until the announce a date for the Fedor fight.
by Riney on Jan 1, 2010 5:58 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I dont think he will jump that high
but both him and Werdum will jump because there are 4 key factors that affect the hw rankings approaching
- Dos Santos vs. #22 Yvel this weekend. If Dos Santos loses he will fall.
- Big Nog vs. # 6 Velazquez at 110. The loser will fall but if Cain wins he will rise.
- Frank Mir vs. # 8 Shane Carwin at 111. The loser again will fall but the winner will rise.
- Josh Barnett not fighting in a year and in a lot of rankings a year of inactivity is enough to drop you from the rankings all together.
So there are a lot of factors that will play out that will result in #10 Overeem moving higher and #11 Werdum moving into the top 10.

I don’t really think the rankings matter all that much in this case , it’s pretty clear that Overeem is the huge fight that Strikeforce has for Fedor , not Henderson or Arlovski . Maybe a rematch with Rogers is equally intriguing – but other than that it’s Overeem.
Rankings don’t always tell the truth – I don’t think Werdum or Karitonov can beat the new Overeem. That’s only my opinion of course , but it seems to be shared by many that the huge strength and muscles Overeem acquired (while not losing too much speed) made him a very dangerous fighter. His K-1 wins should count just as much as Werdum or Maia’s BJJ championships counted (or Lesnar’s wrestling that gave him a fight with Frank Mir , a former UFC champ , on his second fight!).
Trust me , Overeem might lose to Fedor but he isn’t going to suck . If anyone’s about to get dominated it’s probably Werdum…

Disagree with some
I agree that Overeem is the huge fight that Strikeforce has. However I disagree how much anybody can beat the “new Overeem”.
Even though he has been impressive he hasnt faced anybody at hw that is even top 10 and yeah where it is easy to say that he has improved because he destroyed Thompson, Sylvster, Goodridge, and Fujita it’s hard not to say that when he faces somebody with a good resume he is gonna be able to crush them. A lot like when he lost to Lil’ Nog then Arona then Shogun he didnt lose bacause he was too small he lost because they all have a better skill set. And so to me it will be interesting to see Overeem face a Fedor or even a Werdum who have such a set of skills(Fedor overall and Werdum in the BJJ dept).
As for how much his K-1 wins should count. Again we disagree. Take Werdum or Maia they didnt get ranked high because of their BJJ or their wins at ADCC they had to come in and win in mma and that is what got them ranked high.
As for Lesnar and his wrestling getting him a fight with Mir in his second fight, that is incorrect. Lesnar’s time with the sports entertainment WWE and the popularity of that got him a fight with Mir in his second fight but it is not like that got him top ranked. If I recall correctly, the Mir fight and even Herring did not get him ranked and it wasnt until he beat Couture that most sites ranked him in the bottom half of the top 10.
Overeem has gotten to #10 without beating a single top 20 opponent unless you consider Hunt or Buentello top 20 which I dont so I think his K-1 has played a factor but I dont believe it should.
Apologies for the long post. Just had a lot to say.

For example against Shogun Overeem found himself on his back which led to the TKO , that’s something that will be quite difficult for Shogun to do now (they aren’t even in the same weight class anymore , but since you count these losses as relevant for the present …) . He also had cardio issues and some defense problems , yet we are overlooking the fact that he is only 28 , that’s still young in mma . He has improved , there is no doubt about it – the only question is how much he’s improved.
As for his ranking I think he’s top 15 which should be good enough for Strikeforce . They can have Arlovski or Rogers fight Overeem for a shot at Fedor but I don’t think they’ll do it , I’m guessing they wanna bank on Fedor while it’s still hot . So some hardcore fans like you will be pissed about this , and I can’t argue with that – if you wanna see only top 5 ranked fighters fight Fedor then go ahead and be pissed – but remember that rankings lie , A LOT . I don’t Barnett is top 3 or 5 . I think Overeem can destroy him actually . Velasquez is ranked 6th , for what ? Beating Rothwell and Kongo ? And barely beating Kongo , at that…
Lesnar is a good exampe – without beingranked he took the UFC heavyweight championship , so did the rankings really meant anything in his case ? Not really . I think we’re about to witness the same thing here with Overeem . I’m not saying Overeem is the new Lesnar , but he’s definitely deserving a top 10 imo and other than Fedor and Lesnar he’s going to be a lot to handle for just about anybody…
by JoelMan on Jan 1, 2010 7:23 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah and I agree
Overeem at hw is improved and his now huge size is going to help him. My question lies in how good he is?
I mean you rip On Cain for beating Rothwell and Kongo but you have to admit beating Rothwell and Kongo is more impressive than Thompson or Goodridge.
I still think Overeem can be a hell of a fighter and a hell of a force at hw but I dont want to see him vs. Tony Sylvester I want to see him against guys that might pose more of a threat like a Sylvia, Arlovski, Monson, or someone along those lines.
If he wants to go straight to Fedor fine I just dont want to see him against guys you know he is gonna crush. I mean hell the line on the Thompson fight was
-1800 and that is just ridiculous.
by bigdmmafan on Jan 1, 2010 7:33 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Can’t argue there Thompson is a can and Fujita is old.
I guess Overeem’s most impressive performance lately (in mma) was against Buentello , and if you want to cut him some slack – against Cro Cop.
Not that many – I know…
It seems like he does need one good fight against someone ranked , now that I think about it – it would’ve been cool if he fought Rogers or Andrei for a shot at Fedor -why not? (yeah , Im assuming Werdum is gonna lose)
Ah – but we forget he’s the Strikeforce champion , lol . So anyone he fights is gonna be a championship bout , so Strikeforce really doesn’t have any options with this one

IDK… I thought he’d lose to Fedor too but I don’t think anyone could take his knee to their face and not go down. The question is can Overeem keep the fight on his feet? Because if the fight goes down like Fedor-Rogers, I’d be very wary to put money on Fedor.

That was pretty classy
wishing Fujita the best. He got hit by a train straight to the face. There is no doubting that Overeem packs major power. I think the most of the anti-Overeem sentiment comes from the steroid allegations and his failure to defend his title in Strikeforce. But I think the steroids issue is primarily cultural. If he’s not getting tested in Japan, and its not as looked down upon in Holland, why wouldn’t he juice. And its tough to blame a guy for fighting in K1 where he gets paid so much.

Bs rumors say he died. That kind of stuff makes me mad. It seems every one is trying to hype up Overeem any possible way they can. If that bone head actually does fight Fedor and tries to knee him, he’ll regret it when he’s tapping from a knee lock.

Really?
Is that what Fedor does when people throw flying knees at him?

its always a delay with this guy
first it was aprli now may or june the fact that he hasnt been stripped of his title makes me think strikeforce is in too much disarray to ever truely compete with the ufc

What delay? I don’t recall him ever saying he would fight Fedor in April.
by omigawda on Jan 2, 2010 1:13 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
First it was
"I will fight for Strikeforce in the first quarter of 2010,"
http://www.fighters.com/11/09/strikeforce-champ-alistair-overeem-i-dont-have-time-to-think-about-fighting-fedor-emelianenko
Then it was
“We’re going to probably invite Alistair to fight on the [April] CBS Card,” Coker told FightLine.com
http://www.fightline.com/news/mma/2009/1220/471100/alistair-overeem/index.shtml
Now it is
So March, K-1 and then May-June, Fedor. That’s the plan.
None of these plans were ever anything close to being confirmed, so all he’s accomplished by making (or having coker make) these qutes is to build up expectations and then fail to deliver, they really need to stop talking about it until it’s officially official

Dear Mr Overeem (and management)
Please stop telling us that you are going to fight Fedor in 5 months. You have been saying that for 3 months, yet somehow, the fight is always 5 moths away. Lots of things came up in the past few months that keep pushing this date back, so we all know stuff is going to happen between now and May that will make that not happen.
Please don’t mention fighting in the US, Fedor, or Strikeforce until the contract is signed, because your plans are always up in the air, so by pushing this fight that isn’t planned back, all you’re going to do is piss people off.
Thank you
A concerned citizen.

![Golden Glory says Alistair Overeem will fight 3 or 4 times in Strikeforce this year:
"But this year, I've been promised by Golden Glory that he's going to fight three or four times for us here before the end of the year, and we're going to hold him to it." Coker said.
"[Overeem] is going to have to come in and take the necessary tests and prove that he's like every other athlete," Coker said. "The playing field should be even for everyone, including Alistair, who's our world champion."

![Fabricio Werdum says "I want to be on top of Fedor Emelianenko with Fedor on his back"
"I don't think Fedor has lowered in his skill level and he's still one of the best fighters in the world. Because he's been undefeated about 8 years now. In that fight with Brett Rogers, you notice that when Brett hit him with that straight right and broke [cut] his nose, Fedor still kept the same face, the same game face."
