Dynamite!! 2009 Post Fight: Shinya Aoki Apologizes For His Actions

Photo

DREAM lightweight champion, Shinya Aoki got a ton of heat for his post-fight antics, but says he just got caught up in the moment:

"After my fight, I was excited, and so I did something rude that I should apologize for. But that showed just how excited I was over that fight... When I had his arm behind his back, I could feel it popping. I thought, 'Well, this guy's pride just won't let him tap, will it?' So without hesitation, I broke it. I heard it break, and I thought, 'Ah, there, I just broke it.' I was stopped afterward, but even if I hadn't been, continuing to break it more would have been fine by me."

"Dream got a solid win [with my victory over Hirota], so that was good, but we finished off Sengoku. Although Sengoku was already finished from the very beginning"

He also named the hammerlock submission after his 'Boss':

"Let's name it 'Keichi Sasahara 2010.' Because Sasahara told me to take him out, so I went and did just that, and that's why I figure I should name it after him."

"When Sasahara tells me to go and do something, I do it, and that's how I live my life. If Sasahara tells me to go to Strikeforce and take them out or 'Go and kill that guy,' I'm going to do it. Even if he tells me to go take out Tanigawa, I'd do that too."

What's next for Aoki? Sasahara says that while no dates have been finalized, they're planning to make him defend his belt against Tatsuya Kawajiri, and also make him go to the US to fight for Strikeforce.

“ah There I just broke it.”

Shinya Aoki is a BADDD man. And i mean that in a MJ kind of way and that also he is just a total asshole as well

Whats next for Aoki?

Whatever Keichi Sasahara wants him to do, obviously.

I think Aoki was just trying to copy King Mo by doing a Stone Cold Steve Austin celebration after a win

He needs to get brought back to earth. I hope some of the LWs in SF can do it.

I love Struve, but I love this moment even more.

He said he “should apologize” I don’t think he did. I like Aoki and his magic pants.

Yea I don’t think he actually apologized there at all, is there more to this statement that we are missing? Way to go Aoki

by who me on Jan 1, 2010 2:41 PM EST up reply actions

exactly my thoughts all it did was #1 add more fuel to the fire and disrespect #2 make him look like that much more of a dick if thats even possible. I also wondered if Keichi Sasahara was the one who told Aoki to cry like a little Bitch after Sakurai blasted him like a rag doll ?

doesnt sound like the kid who was interviewed in his parents living room during the final Pride FC telecast….

by pmac06340 on Jan 1, 2010 2:33 PM EST reply actions

Lol I should apologize but…
Um yea he made me do it and I was caught up in the emotions and wanted to make my boss happy so be happy with the fact that I know I should apologize. And do these pants make me look fat?

Next up, Gilbert Melendez.

by Polyh3dron on Jan 1, 2010 2:41 PM EST reply actions

Hopefully

I’d prefer Kawajiri next though personally. If Kawajiri wins it could setup Melendez/Kawajiri II.

by CSKit on Jan 1, 2010 2:43 PM EST up reply actions

I love aoki

But he seems like a tool the more I hear of this story.

I’d seriously like to see him against Penn or GSP and see if he can back his talk up.

This just hit a nerve with me.

by cyke on Jan 1, 2010 2:59 PM EST reply actions

please stop with the Penn and GSP talk on taking him out. A Tyson Griffen or Sean Sherk would do just fine. To be honest I see Aoki having a hard time beating the likes of A Hermes Franca or Clay Guida. I really really want to See Aoki in his carrer test himself against the LW’s in the U.S

by Shocbomb on Jan 1, 2010 3:46 PM EST up reply actions

If he’s Dream’s ace, let him fight the UFC’s ace. Tyson Griffin was almost submitted by Dos Anjos, what makes you so confident about him or even Sherk winning?

Even someone with good wrestling like Gilbert Melendez from Strikeforce would be a good match.

by cyke on Jan 1, 2010 4:44 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

First almost only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades. Second I see any wrestler with take down def and half way decent striking totaly blasting gomi or just riding out a easy decision. To be honest I don’t like the way Gomi matches up with most of the LW’s in North America.

by Shocbomb on Jan 1, 2010 6:31 PM EST up reply actions

I thought you guys were talking about Aoki?

by John Nash on Jan 1, 2010 7:42 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

my bust it was about Aoki I just F up and had a brain fart thats all , Bottom line I just see and decent LW fighter in North America especially with a wrestling base half way decent stand up and good Sub def giving Aoki major problems in a fight. Its also the reason I think Kawajiri beats Aoki if FEG ever sets that fight All in all the more I think about it the LW devision is the only weight class sence the folding of pride we have not seen top fighters from pride/japan come over to the UFC to fight each other.

Talking about Gomi now I really hope we do get to see him also in the UFC where he is a free agent now. There is alot of great exciting fights to make with him.

by Shocbomb on Jan 1, 2010 9:05 PM EST up reply actions

Did anyone else notice?

As I watched the arm break and Aoki flip the bird, a profound level of disgust came over me. After Aoki did his little victory lap around the ring, it looked as if he went to Hirota’s corner to- give him a pat on the back? See if he was ok? Say good fight? He went there to do something sportsmanlike it seemed, and was given no attention by anyone in the corner. That made me LOL.

Ricky Hatton came closer to beating Manny Pacquiao than Marquez did to beating Floyd.

I saw that too.

Seemed very… strange? Like he wanted to say fuck you, but then felt a little bad about what he did. Then realized he’s Shinya goddamn Aoki, and he doesn’t give a fuck.

Aoki vs. Nick Diaz at welterweight. Make it happen, Strikeforce!

Nick Diaz is about 3 times bigger then Aoki and did you not see hoe bad Aoki got over powered the last time he tried to fight a WW. Diaz would just kill him.

i wish he hadn’t apologized
