Welcome to the New Age - The New SBNation.com Is Here
SB Nation has always represented the absolute best in sports blogs. With amazing sites covering everything from boxing to MMA to football to college sports to tennis...etc. This has become the go-to network for edgy, smart sports coverage.
I'm proud to announce to our readers that the new SBNation.com has launched.
I'll try and keep this short and simple.
SBNation.com is going to seek to do on a national level what each SB Nation network blog already does for its team or sport: provide the most timely, engaging and highest quality fan perspective information and conversation on the web. Check out this little intro also.
I'm very proud to be working on the MMA section for the new site in addition to continuing my role here at BloodyElbow. The MMA section there will work to direct you to hot stories throughout the network, across the web, and will feature some original pieces by me as well.
So check it out, and enjoy!

Wow
The page looked one way one minute and completely different after a refresh. Talk about catching me off guard. Great redesign though.

Just Curious
Is the site’s new look going to eventually extend to the Bloody Elbows and the Behind the Steel Curtains?

Beautiful Look
Much easier to navigate. My lone complaint is that the tab reads “MMA”, but also includes BLH, which isn’t an MMA site. Shouldn’t in read “Combat Sports” or “Martial Arts”? That way, it could fits both MMA & boxing and expand to kickboxing, college wrestling, pure BJJ, etc (discussing them much more than we do at BE).
But I’m nitpicking. Awesome upgrade!

we've got big plans for the combat sports league
but will probably keep the MMA header on SBN for the foreseeable future.

Right now it’s just me writing there while we figure things out.
The live blogs will remain here. The site doesn’t exist to take away from BE or anything. So on fight night it will have a link to the live blog on this site..etc

On the subject of SB Nation
I’d be curious to know where BE stacks next to all the other sections of the site. I’d blindly guess that it’s the most popular or at least close based on the fact that I’ve heard of it in outside media. That’s not true of the rest of SB nation.
In July and August we were number one on the entire network (MMA Mania doesn’t count yet because they haven’t moved to the new platform yet). Peep the traffic: http://www.sitemeter.com/?a=stats&s=s30bloodyelbow&r=33

So +1mil read the crap we write down here? Damn...
Seeing that, I went down memory lane (i.e. the archives) to figure out when I started reading BE, and I found I remembered the Jeremy Williams tribute & when you started writing over here instead of Mad Squabbles. I also found these few gems in past posts:
Personally I think Heath, a beefy grappler looks like a tougher match up for Machida.
Jesus, this is gay. It’s good exposure for Couture [on Dancing with the Stars], but still. I’m guessing Randy’s going to do some “tough training” with Gibbons to buck up her spirits and give her some competitive edge by teaching her how to hit a heavy bag. As Eric Cartman would say, “LAME”.
And you thought [Sokoudjou] was invincible, eh?Ah, the good ol’ days…

Actually I’m not really sure how much the comments get read. I’m sure its substantial, but in terms of overall traffic very few readers actually comment. It really is something of a vocal minority.
Is MMA Mania ever going to switch over? I almost don’t want them to, because BE is a far better site, and I don’t want them to infiltrate the comments here. It’s the lack of Stupids that makes me want to participate.

sorry if this is a dumb question, but
what’s the difference between page views and visits?
by Anton Tabuena on Sep 10, 2009 1:28 AM EDT up reply actions
Visit = unique. Multiple views by the same person are still one visit.

Bad Left Hook has definitely got some outside mentions. Wasn’t something from it on SportsCenter?
http://www.fourouncestofreedom.com
I didn't mean to say other parts of SBN haven't been mentioned
just that I hadn’t heard the mentions.
That was probably clear but I wanted to make sure
I believe they quoted something from the Manny Pacquiao/Ricky Hatton fight.

in all seriousness...
no. BE remains the same. This is just a new main page of our blog network which will link to the blogs as well as any relevant news. Ideally we’d like you all to be able to use SBNation.com rather than ESPN.com going forward. It should only enhance things on our network, not replace the need for any of the blogs.

How consistent are standards
Obviously a benefit of ESPN is that all their articles have consistent journalistic standards. One of the reasons I like Bloody Elbow for as a blog is that its about as reliable (excluding fanposts) as any sight in terms of verifying articles and not rumor mongering. I don’t look around the network that much, but if the articles are of different standards and quality then using it as an alternative to ESPN won’t work.

i will support any website that features such headlines.
congrats on the new gig brent.
Is this the final look? I just wanted to point out that you guys have some overlappin’ issues. I’m guessing that’s the HTML or something?
Gong, is that Opera on a Linux build?
I’d be curious to know what build. Thanks!
