Quote of the Day: Gegard Mousasi Calls Paulo Filho a "Little Donkey on Steroids"

"What happened when [Filho] came to America, he wasn't...he got beat up really bad. Now he's back in Japan and he feels like a kid in a candy story, I think. He can use all kinds of steroids. And I think the steroids have gone to his head...[Filho] didn't perform the same as he does in Japan as he does, how you say, in America. And now he suddenly has a big mouth again. I would say that he's a little donkey that, he's on steroids, he thinks he's a running horse. But, he's more like a little poney...I really believe that he used steroids. He also backed out a couple of times when he had to fight Chael Sonnen. He said he was crazy. Maybe he is crazy. I don't know. I think he wasn't feeling very good mentally because he cannot use his magic stuff...I also fight in Japan and I don't use anything...If there's an athletic commission test, he can fight me everywhere, everywhere he wants."

Strikeforce Light Heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi responds to a challenge from Paulo Filho, per MMA Convert.

That’s cool. Filho is probably the best fighter SF could hope to match up with Mousasi right now, I say book it. Plus if they do it in the US Filho will have to pass a drug test.

Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.

Plus they now have a challenger for LHW belt since Paulo can’t make weight anymore.

Makes you wonder just how much roids there was back in pride. Seems like it was running pretty rampit.

great vid

mousasi speaks the TRUTH! if i were him i’d take that payday challenge, he could beat fihlo, even on the juice. doubt if paulo would live up to it. ;)

Gegard The Truth Mousasi

It must be the way he says everything in a matter-of-fact monotone voice, but when he calls Paulo a donkey on steroids, it’s not even trash talk, it’s just the truth. Heh.

Mousasi is da shit.

by Gaossou on Sep 7, 2009 3:52 PM EDT reply actions   1 recs

It’s pretty obvious that steroid was the difference maker in Filho. I’m glad Mousasi said what everybody was thinking. Filho should not be ranked anywhere in the top ten again until he fights on US soil.

by cyph on Sep 7, 2009 3:55 PM EDT reply actions

Mousasi seems uninterested in trash talking

like he’s all “if gegard must compare him to something unfavorable for the fight hyping… then he is like the donkey. yes.”

He really seems like a guy who would prefer beating a message into his opponent directly via morse code if anything, but will do an interview in the meantime for our benefit.

Rec’d for beating via morse code :)

Gegard did an interview on Sherdog’s JBS not too long ago, and he actually has some personality. At least that there is a potential challenger in Filho to fight Mousasi “The Dreamcatcher” now. Mousasi is the future of the light heavyweight division. I can only imagine the fights that he can have in the UFC because any of the top ten or higher in the UFC vs Gegard Mousasi would be awesome.

Filho gets KTFO if this happens.

sigh

Manhoef couldn’t do it yet you think Mousasi will?

And it was well documented Filho had a drug problem and was suffering from depression when he went over to the WEC. Mousasi is a dick.

by gunranger on Sep 7, 2009 4:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Mousasi is better on the ground then Manhoef. Filho knew that if he could get in close to Menhoef and manages to get him down its over, wont be as simple as that with Gegard

by Riley_96 on Sep 7, 2009 4:38 PM EDT up reply actions

i think mousasi would KTFO filho if not submit him.. boy what a sight it would be to see mousasi arm bar filho

by buttters on Sep 7, 2009 4:35 PM EDT reply actions

I’ll be the loner defending Filho :P

WAR FILHO

and for Gegard to feed the ignorant with this roids crap is just weak sauce… there, I said it :P

When Filho fought in test-free PRIDE, he was a beast.
When Filho fought in the tested WEC, he was slow, weakened, and doughy.
When Filho fought in test-free DREAM, he looked like a beast again.

It’s not conclusive, but it’s pretty damning…

Joe Doerksen & Chael Sonnen?

He looked bad in the first Sonnen fight – he got lucky with that armbar, and if Sonnen had finishing power, it would have been over. The Doerksen fight is hard to judge because JD is so inconsistent, and Filho won by TKO of all ways, so yeah…

No doubt hes has talent what im seeing is that although he is good outside of non tested promotions, he just isnt the force he seems to be when he fights in non tested Promotions.
To say Filho has no skill is foolish but there seems to be a steep curve in his proformances when he fights for tested promotions over non tested.

by Riley_96 on Sep 7, 2009 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Mousasis going to ride that little pony all over the ring and then is going to put it out of its misery!

by DRExLOC on Sep 7, 2009 4:47 PM EDT reply actions

LOL … and it looks like hes wearing Paulo’s blue flannel lol!

by DRExLOC on Sep 7, 2009 4:48 PM EDT reply actions

no

Paulo’s is all reaped up due to age, that shirt is so old he’ll need to buy a new one sooner or later, even though the one he wears was a gift lol.

by Orcus on Sep 7, 2009 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Make it happen

I agree that Fihlo should pass a piss test 1st, so it isn’t ruled a no contest. I think GM would beat Paulo’s ass and would love to see it. This is one of the better fights GM could get and hope it goes down.

by Obey_Giant_Silva on Sep 7, 2009 5:16 PM EDT reply actions

While I’ve also jumped on the Mousasi bandwagon since that awesome up-kick, doesn’t anyone else find it slightly strange that he’s so against fighting Filho while thinking he’s on steroids, yet he enters the Dream tournaments where he could end up facing any raging roid-monkey freak, if they chose to compete? It just seems a bit two-faced.

But saying that i’d still rather see them two fight in Strikeforce anyway.

by Barry619 on Sep 7, 2009 5:17 PM EDT reply actions

I thought he said he WOULD fight him when he’s on steroids, but he did say ‘everywhere’ which is a bit confusing

by cagefightonacid on Sep 7, 2009 10:48 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Filho should’ve seen this coming. Unfortunate, maybe, but “Japan based” fighters who perform not as well in America will, ofc, always be vulnerble to the roid donkey discourse.

Personally, I don’t see the big controversy in leaving the roid explanation open. In general that is, not just regarding PF.

I’m starting to think this shit is scripted: “Hey Shields call out Frank and Cung Le. Wow, people liked that. Now Mayhem you try it. Hey, people are starting to pay attention to us. Jake, now you blow a gasket on Mayhem. Oh, crap we forgot about Jacare! Jacare say something funny in bad english. Now let’s build up Mousasi. Ok, that was good, but next time can you actually say it as if you’re not reading from cue cards?”
Why the fuck even have them fights, they seem to be doing fine without even getting in the cage.

by John Nash on Sep 7, 2009 6:26 PM EDT reply actions

It’s called fight promotion.

Some people are getting paid to do this. It’s necessary to make money on the fights, which is necessary to have fights.

by Phildo on Sep 7, 2009 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions

My bad attempt to spell out that I thought Strikeforce themselves were instigating the name calling, obvious went missed. I will do better in the future.

by John Nash on Sep 7, 2009 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Wow....hypocrits

Penn accuses someone of roids and they shit on him for days.
Mousasi does it with absolutely no evidence either and it’s ‘War Mousasi!’

You could look at it the other way too: Somebody shits on GSP and everyone goes crazy. Some shits on Filho and nobody cares.

Great point jemaleddin

As usual it’s okay for any kind of slander to get thrown around . . . as long as it’s nowhere near the golden boy GSP (even when his corner is actually breaking the rules)

by Mattyjudo on Sep 8, 2009 1:34 PM EDT up reply actions

You’re right.

The GSP love/Penn hate goes hand in hand right now.

by MickDawg on Sep 8, 2009 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Not really the same thing

Penn got his ass kicked, and then relentlessly did everything possible to discredit GSP (I’m not a GSP fan either, I wanted Penn to win). Penn is getting shitted on for being a “cry baby”. Mousasi is addressing something that isn’t out of the spectrum of reason. Filho is getting shitted on for making an outlandish challenge after lackluster performances. His history of drug addiction doesn’t help.

"I would say that he’s a little donkey that, he’s on steroids, he thinks he’s a running horse. But, he’s more like a little pony." - Gegard Mousasi on Paulo Filho

by Damon O. on Sep 8, 2009 2:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Penn's main point after the fight was GSP greased

They caught him…intentional or not.
And 4 of his previous opponents had the same feeling, but didn’t outright accuse him of it.
Yet, Penn got beaten up on every message board for being a “crybaby”.

How is that kind of evidence not better than “Filho looked bad fighting in the US”.
That’s the only evidence?

Mousasi can make accusations on assumptions only, and that’s cool?

I fail to believe Filho doesn’t have enough people around him to learn to cycle on/off properly.

by MickDawg on Sep 8, 2009 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions
