Ron Waterman Sizes Up Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin
Between Lesnar and Carwin, the H2O-Man has coached, trained and worked with both. So, how does he evaluate their various attributes and strengths as compared to the other? It's subtle, but the edge goes to Lesnar:
Sherdog.com: Who’s stronger: Lesnar or Carwin?
Waterman: I think Brock would have to have the edge on physical strength. He probably walks around a little bit heavier than Shane. But it’s not a huge difference. They’re both extremely strong. I might give athleticism to Brock’s side, but the technique to Shane a little more. He’s come along with his ground and stand-up. He’s got good submissions now.Sherdog.com: There’s also debate over Lesnar’s Division I honors and Carwin’s Division II. Do you see much of a difference?
Waterman: At the time, when Shane was wrestling, there was not a huge difference. Both were national champions. I think they had a few similar opponents. I had Brock in town with me here in Greeley and I took him to the gym to train with me one day and Shane was there: I introduced them. This was six or seven years ago. They met for the first time. They were talking back and forth about Stephen Neal and other common opponents they had wrestled against. They had real similar outcomes.
Sherdog.com: If you had to bet on who gets the first takedown, where does the money go?
Waterman: [long silence] It’s really hard to say. If they come in to wrestle, Brock might get the first takedown. But if Shane plays his cards right and is looking to defend and keeping him away and setting it up with punching, I’d give it to Shane. It’s a chess match. It’s about who comes ready to play that day.

Is it just me, or does that interview end rather abruptly? I kept looking for a second page. Interesting read though.
sherdog has a little longer bit to it. he coached Shane in high school and is also training him for Brock so he opinion is a bit biased id believe. Although he did say brock could do a standing back flip at near at 300 pounds back then. Eat that GSP lol
"Frank Mir had a horseshoe up his ass. I told him a year ago. I pulled it out of him and I beat him over the head with it." Brock Lesnar
Yea, I read the full interview at Sherdog, that’s actually what I was referring to.

Shane is asking me to train with him for this fight, so I’ll be training with him for the next two months. I have a fight with Lashley in November, so it’s going to help me out as well. I think it’ll help Shane. Brock and I have very similar fighting styles. We take opponents down, ground-and-pound, don’t let them move, look for [a] submission. That’s basically what Brock’s done: control opponents. That’s my style. Having Shane train with me will be an advantage for him.
I thought lashley sometimes trains with Carwin and Marquardt at their gym?
..Nate said something about Lashley not being loyal, but i didn’t think that he isn’t welcome anymore..
That picture looks like its from Gayside Story and he’s about to go make some Sharks “taste the chain.”
seriously… so ridiculous. “i’m just hangin out in my acid-wash jeans after i got sunburned while holding this chain in this dirty alley”

I make about 5% of the homoerotic jokes I could make on this site. Given the nature of the sport, opportunities abound.
But come on. The come hither look, the way he holds the chain so that it goes from his hand to his crotch, the van Dyke…. I mean damn. If that photo isn’t supposed to smolder with homosexual innuendo, then Ron needs to stop hiring Playgirl photographers.

Where the chain ends!
Pretty cool MMA reference by CBS broadcaster and former tennis champ
did anyone just hear the mma reference thrown out by Jim Courier on the CBS broadcast of The US open (about 10 min ago)? He said “If Ferrero wins this (tie break ) I expect the tap out from (Giles) Simon” Simon appears injured and Courrier expected him to quit the match if he didn’t just win the tie break .
I hear that phrase a lot around college tennis. It can mean both a literal ‘retirement due to injury’, or the act of basically looking for a quick exit while getting your ass kicked.
A: “How’s Jack doing?”
B: “He got his ass kicked in the first and he’s down a break early, I think he’s about to tap-out”.
I think Lesnar will dominate Carwin. The main reason is because Lesnar smashed Randy and Randy smashed Gonzage. Gonzaga was wrecking Carwin untill Carwin caught him. I am in no way trying to take anything away from Carwin’s win over Gonzaga, but in all honesty I thought the fight was all but over before the monster punch(I also wanted Carwin to win) To add to that, rather than just going by records, Lesnar is a much better MMA wrestler in my opinion. I personally feel that styles make the difference in how wrestlers make the jump to MMA, and l think Lesnars style translates much better into MMA. To add to that I think Lesnar has a clear athletic edge as far as speed and explosion. Oh well thats just my 2 cents……..And don’t start with the whole your a Brock nut hugger thing because I knew about Brock before anybody who followed WWE and I’d be willing to bet most on here. I was in shock when I saw him wrestler in college and have followed him since.
That is some interesting MMAth sir.
I’m surprised that so many people are giving the fight so handily to Brock. IMO they match up pretty evenly on size and wrestling ability, with Carwin being the guy with quicker, harder strikes. Typically when two strong wrestlers go at it it ends up being a striking match. I think Carwin has the faster and more precise strikes. Both guys hit hard enough to stop a truck, but I would bet on Carwin beating Brock to the punch.
Keep in mind that Carwin is training at a great camp where Brock is training at the camp that has let Sean Sherk come out and box with a 12" reach for his last 3 fights (and lose 2 in the process).
