Anderson Silva Sidelined Until 2010

It appears as though UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva may be forced to the sidelines until sometime in 2010 due to elbow surgery according to a recent report from MMA Live.
....Both Nate Marquardt and Dan Henderson will have to wait it out in order to have their opportunities at championship redemption, or perhaps a bout between the two would make sense in the near future.
Well, there you have it, Dan is going to have to fight Marquardt or give up his title shot. The questions are what will Hendo do, and if he chooses the latter, will Marquardt take that time off as well?

Well played Spider, well played...
Easy way to set up that Henderson vs Marquardt #1 contender match now…. this was a smart move to get what he wants.
He was like 'You hit like a bitch.' I'm like all right. And I stood up and slapped him. I go 'Now you just got hit like one.'" - Kurt Pellegrino.
More bad news for the UFC. Silva out until 2010. GSP out until 2010. Rampage doing a movie. Liddell busy dancing. Swick injured pulling out of potential title shot.
Silva out til 2010: Honestly, I have had my fill on the Spider this year… he deserves a break.
GSP out til 2010: This kinda sucks but a groin tear is nothing to mess with, plus there is no clear cut #1 contender to his belt at this point. He deserves a break as well.
Rampage doing a movie: He will be busy 2 to 3 months tops… I heard the movie already started filming, the fight w/ Rashad gets put on hold but oh well. Seeing him play BA Barakus could be an epic win for us (or epic fail, ex.. Never Surrender).
Liddell: He is doing what he should be doing…. doing crap like Dancing With the Stars and maybe a stint on Shaq VS or another appearance on the Deadliest Warrior is what he should be doing. No more fights Chuck, please.
Swick: He had no chance against GSP anyways, I’d rather see someone who may have a chance at an upset.

The issue with Rampage is this:
He already missed a title shot chance because he wanted a rest, then he was off for a good portion of the year with The Ultimate Fighter, now he’s on a movie ‘til November, then he has to get back to training.
Basically, he’s taking a year off.
The only saving grace is he wasn’t champ when he did all this, as the way things are going, Machida might be the last healthy champ left in a few weeks.

Probably a good time to start marketing other fighters and build up fan interest. I don’t think this will be bad for the UFC.
weoweoweo is the best… and I <3 Vera cause he is pogi.
Hendo vs. Nate Interim MW title sometime before the end of the year, well done Andy you won’t have to face both guys now.
I see no reason at all to have an “interim” belt in this situation. Silva recently beat Henderson already, recently defended the belt, and will defend it likely in the first 6 months of 2010. To me this is far different than the HW division where there wasn’t an absolutely clear cut dominant champion in the first place.
Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t like interim belts when there isn’t a compelling reason to have one.
^ I agree
Why would there be an interim belt when it was supposed to be a #1 contender match anyway?

Ask Silva’s manager Ed Soares, it was his idea.

Christ, calm down
There’s no need for an intern belt, instead of going 4-5 months between fights, he’ll go 6-7.
GSP is probably going to fight in January
Rampage- Rashad could still take place at the new year’s show. Especially if the movie has already started filming. And he doesn’t need to be there for the entire shoot.
Ok, let’s assume that Silva is back for Super Bowl card sometime in Feb or the March card. He will have defended his belt 1 time in well over a year and only twice in 2 years.
Silva seems to be pretty cocky and clowns his opponents at some times. He has left the fans upset in both of his last 2 title defenses. He has gone on and on about Roy Jones Jr.
So where is the outrage and hate for him that BJ gets??
I’m not saying he should or that this is even my perspective on the situation. I am simply stating that once again, the source of all fair treatment in our world, the internet, has let us down once again! Down with the internet!!!

Check it out!!
So now it's the internet to blame that Penn is a douche?
If BJ stops throwing other fighters under buses, maybe teh interwebz will stop h8ing.

I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.
lol.
Well..
I think it’s a bit more than taking time off that gives people (like myself) negative feelings towards Penn.

I think probably
Dan feels he has earned a title shot and doesn’t want to risk a loss against a very capable, very dangerous opponent that might drop him out of title contention. He may not have time left in his career to take a loss and then win the necessary number of fights to get back into contention. This may be it if he wants a last shot at being champion

Hendo’s getting old fast, I see him retiring in the next 3-4 years…maybe BIG maybe, but he wants that gold, in his mind he’s probably thinking “If Silva beats me again….I can maybecomeback from it after a fight or two…but if Nate beats me, that drops me down the ladder…shit I might even have to fight Okami….”…..that was kind of a joke but hey what can ya do
Dan has plenty of years left in him. He just handled a very game Bisping, despite what people think of Bisping. He controlled the fight standing and in the clinch. He took Rich Franklin to a very close decision and won. I think Marquardt will be a fast and explosive opponent for him but certainly not someone he cannot beat. Even if he lost to Marquardt I don’t find it difficult for him to put together two, three or even four quick wins at middleweight and get right back into title contention.
