XFC Live on HDNet: More Than Just War Machine
Undercard preview for Saturday's XFC airing live on HDNet 9:00 PM EST/ 6:00 PM on the West Coast
The co-main event of the evening puts the promotion's bantamweight belt on the line as champion Jason Goodall defends against Pablo Alfonso.
Goodall has feasted on lower level bantamweights through much of his 5-0 record. The 29 year old who trains out of Cape Coral won the XFC 135 pound title at XFC 6 Haender Rodriguez 4-5 via TKO in the third round. The match was a rematch of a November 2007 encounter between the two Florida bantamweights.
Pablo Alfonso 3-1 is coming off loss to American Top Team's Eric Luke in March. The Florida native has kept a sporadic fight schedule until 2009, fighting once a year since turning pro in 2006.
A competitively booked match at featherweight between Bruce Connors and Tim Snyder could steal the show.
Connors lost a tough five round decision to top prospect Jarred Card at XFC's last show in April, which also aired live on HDNet.
Connors, a three year pro, is a full time SWAT team officer in Florida. With a 6-1 record the 29 year old is a tough out for any 145 pounder. Prior to his title fight with Card none of Connors fights have made it past the first frame.
Coming from Texas, Tim Snyder 9-3-1 is a veteran of the local MMA circuit in the Midwest. Snyder last saw action in May at a Urban Rumble Championship show where he was upset by 23 year old prospect Will Campuzano, losing in the first round via TKO.
The XFC has a unique program called the "XFC open fighter tryout".
The winner of the first set of tryouts was heavyweight Chris Barnett. Barnett earned a main card slot on XFC's last show and returns on the 5th against Daniel Perez. Perez is a big step up in competition for Barnett.
Perez is 4-0 with a win over Ultimate Fighter season 10 cast member and Tampa Bay Buccaneer Marcus Jones. The 25 year old from Miami knocked out Jones in less than 90 seconds at a World Fighting Championship event in March 2009.
Also, making the HD Net televised main card is the second winner of XFC's open tryout Julien Williams. Chosen over 40 other applicants, Williams will make his MMA debut versus Jeremy Thurlow. Thurlow is the striking instructor at Gracie Tampa and is 1-0 in his MMA career.
The main event has been shuffled in recent weeks. The original headliner was to feature Roger Bowling against Ultimate Fighter and UFC vet War Machine.
With Bowling breaking his hand in three places in his last fight on July 25th, Orlando's Mikey Gomez 8-7 has been chosen to take his place versus War Machine.

Yes, free MMA this weekend
The next big MMA card is the UFC Fight Night, so having no MMA was not cool. While I think War Machine is missing something in his head, it is still cool to see him fight.

That should be a good card. Are you holding the fight in the same arena where the Spurs play?
because i thought there was a smaller arena right next to that one that could hold the card. forgot what that one is called
