Top 5 reasons to why George St Pierre should NOT fight Anderson Silva

As contenders in the welterweight-division continues to dwindle, the call to arms for a Silva vs St Pierre superfight are getting louder. I`ll admit that at the moment there are no real contenders for the Canadian.

That, on the other hand, does not necessarily mean that`s it`s a good idea to put him up against a fellow contestant for the P4P-title, who just happens to be 30 pounds heavier and 3 inches taller.

So, I`m just gonna give a couple of reasons as to why they shouldn`t fight.

1) It could destroy a division. If GSP wins, he`ll have to stay at the division. What`s the point in ever seeing him fight a smwll WW when he just destroyed a 230 pound potential P4P nr 1? That would leave ww without it`s champ and as a side-effect MW would be even more depleted of challengers than it was before. If you have a guy that destroys Anderson Silva, would it really be that interesting to see him against Nate Marquart?

2) If St Pierre wins, Anderson Silva may leave. I, for one, want him in UFC now, not in three years when he`s done fighting the likes of Roy Jones Jr.

3) It messes with the LHW-division. If GSP wins, how would that make Forrest look? Sure, it`s MMAth, but please remember that Forrest was the champion as little as a year ago.

4) If Silva wins, it will likely be by KO. You don`t want GSP to be developing a glass-jaw at this tender age. And it really doesn`t prove anything. People will say that "Silva was to big for him".

5) You give away a lot of potential match-ups for free.

It would be interesting to see GSP move up in weight though. Let him fight one of the contenders at MW. I would put him against Okami, Sonnen or Marquart.

If he wins, you get more interesting match-ups, if he loses, he`ll move back down having shown how worthy the challengers at MW really are.

I would pit GSP againt a

I hope GSP develops the glassy-est jaw ever.

Well, the first reason is moot because the fight would either be at a catchweight or GSP would go straight back to 170. He has already said he would not fight Marquardt or get in his way of holding the MW title.

I flat out disagree with #2. Anderson Silva losing means GSP becomes an instant legend. Reasons 3 and 4 are huge stretches, and I’m just not sure what #5 means. What are we getting “for free”?

Regardless, this fight is not going to happen. Dana said that after seeing what Silva did to Forrest, it doesn’t make sense to put him against someone as small as GSP. Size would be too big of a factor, and it would really hurt GSP in the eyes of the casual fan.

Wandy's Coach

My friend at Toronto BJJ was telling me how Saulo Ribeiro was bragging that Wanderlei Silva would be fighting GSP in the week that Saulo was training here in Toronto. Obviously far from confirmed with Wandy’s face surgery and GSP’s groin tear/need to build to 185. It could be a fight in 2010 that we’ll see though.

Either way, I haven’t seen anyone throw out the idea of a Wanderlei/GSP bout. Thoughts?

(I like the idea, friend wouldn’t be too please to see another tough fight for Wanderlei).

- GSP doesn’t want to fight Spider,
- Spider doesn’t want to fight GSP,
- Dana White doesn’t want to see them fight.
What else there is to say?

Dan Henderson and Marquardt are way too big for GSP- as big or bigger than Spider.

Disagree
  1. (Destroys WW, depletes MW) If he could take the MW title, that opens up a lot of challenger matches since he hasnt beaten all the middleweights like Silva. I would still want to see him fight Marquardt after Silva (teammate issues though…) Extra time could solify real WW challengers and keep us from sending up challengers who are not a real challenge. If GSP doesnt want to return to WW, he could give up the belt.
  1. (Silva will leave if he loses) If Silva wants a real challenge, a loss may reinvigorate him and keep him in the UFC longer. As it is he has 3 fights on his contract and many expect him to leave after those fights regardless. A loss may give him something to prove.
  1. (Hurts Forrest) & #4 (GSP could get KO) These are ridiculous and could be used as bad arguments against any matchup. Why let Carwin fight Lesnar if he might get hurt or may embarrass Frank Mir by winning? Doesnt make sense.
  1. Unsure what you mean.

GSP vs Silva 2010 please.

he's too small

and I think we’ve all seen that GSP needs to be bigger than people to win, since THE ONLY WEAPON HE HAS is takedowns

I know what you're all going to say
