It may not be all smiles for Floyd Mayweather if a recent poll at BadLeftHook is any indication of fan interest in his upcoming fight with Marquez. Photo via www.boxingdaily.co.uk
I've maintained for some time that I thought the return of the best P4P boxer on the planet would do pretty good numbers even if they have dropped the ball on the promotion and the fight isn't really that competitive on paper. I didn't really think UFC 103 would put too much of a dent in the buys that the fight would be getting either. However, the results of the poll on this article on BadLeftHook have to been seen as troubling.
The leading choice on a poll, on a boxing site, of what people will do the night of the fights is "I'm watching UFC 103 instead" at 23%, followed by 20% saying they're going to try to watch a pirated stream. Add in the 10% that say they aren't watching and you've got more than half of the readers of a boxing site saying they aren't watching what was supposed to be a boxing "mega-show."
This is a show that even bucks the trend of the week PPV undercard by having a show full of competitive fights featuring legitimate fighters. In all honesty this is one of the most poorly promoted fight events I've seen in my life. Could it be that Mayweather/Marquez doesn't even do 350k buys?
