Quote of the Day: Dan Hardy Talks Michael Bisping KO
"Everyone’s been down on the U.K. for a little while, and I think that’s partly due to the fact that the British fans are so vocal about the British fighters because it’s such a new thing for us. We haven’t had any fighters that can compete at that level.
"I think the American fans have been waiting for something like (Bisping getting KO'd by Henderson) to happen to say, ‘There you go, we told you that you weren’t as good as you thought you were. Everyone’s waiting for me to fall as well. As soon as I lose my first fight in the UFC, they’re going to be dancing around the room and that’s just part of the sport."
Dan Hardy talking to Sherdog about his countryman Micheal Bisping's KO loss to Dan Henderson at UFC 100.

Personally, I dont give a fuck what nationality you are. I actually was cheering on the UK fighters last season of TUF becuase they seemed like classy dudes in comparison to the Yanks. Bisping’s just kinda acts arrogant and the fans pick up on that, it doesn’t matter wher your from. Example, Rashad Evans is hated universally.
for all intents and purposes, just consider all my posts as works of satire.

I used to hate Rashad, but to be honest, I kind of like him now. After his loss to Machida he kind of endeared me to him. I am, however, really hoping Rashad beats the snot out of Rampage whom I can STAND. Makes me irritated just thinking about him..
I'm the kind of girl who loves to watch a GOOD fight!

I’m with you on Rampage…
Why do people hate Rashad so much, anyway? I’m not particularly a fan, but I’ve never understood the level of dislike for the guy. Was it his KOs of fan favorites Liddell & Forrest?

acting like a fuck head blowing kisses to guys in fights, stuff like that is why i can’t stand him.

tension between the UK & US
at the risk of sounding like a nerd and a tool. i live in louisville, KY; so any foreign relations with any other country isnt my specialty, but when i hooked up my xbox 360 and started talking with people all over the world i noticed 2 countries that have disdain for each other, and that would be the US & UK. games like Rainbow Six: Vegas, you join a room and the britts and the americans are already yelling at each other segregating teams, throwing “yank wankers” and “go drink your tea” (the most edited for content insults were selected for my comment). gotta say, with talking directly to british people online, i’ve gotta say i would have to agree with dan hardy here and say i am looking forward to his first loss. there is a real strain between the two nationalities.
I'm old school hating Lesnar, I've been hating Lesnar since '08
I hate the tension
I live in California and it bothers me seeing a barrier grow between the two countries

Weird. I live in LA and I notice nothing but good relations between the citizens of the UK and USA. But it could very well have to do with where I live and the profession I’m in.
sorry
i didn’t mean to correlate living in LA with the tension, just that i’m not from the uk and i have nothing but respect for the fans and fighters that come there…. i meant that it seems a lot of the fans of the uk and fighters feel they aren’t treated fairly.

This dude's always bringing up nationality like it's a chip on his shoulder.
Sure, you hear the cheers and boos at the arenas but in the end, people don’t give a rat’s ass where the fighters are from if the fight is good.
And like Hardy’s on the minds of most of the UFC fanbase. He’s just another one of many mid-level WWs who is only booked on the UK shows. Though I root for him because at least he has some semblance of a personality and he’s into graphic design.
The nationality thing is just an excuse to disguise that Bisping has a very annoying personality that many MMA fans don’t like. It hardly has anything to do with nationality. The fact is that Bisping, as a fighter, is NOT ready for the upper-tier of the division.
Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy is personally my number one most disliked fighter. It has nothing to do with his nationality though. I don’t like that he walks into the cage with a gimmick, and he talks a lot of smack. Skill-wise, besides heavy hands, I really have yet to see anything impressive from him.
I don't dislike Bisping because he's a brit
but he does remind me of the guy who killed Ledger in The Patriot, and this resemblance i simply cannot stand for. How could you burn that church with his girlfriend you bastard!
on to MMA, Hardy is good but definately not ever going to be a legitimate threat at WW, I think they should match him up with AJ to build johnson
He's not wrong
Judging from the UG, almost all of the ‘Bisping backlash’ was the result of the community as a whole throwing prefight smack talking back in the face of a handful of really persistent British trolls.
Nobody had to squat to say about Bisping (other than the normal putdowns all TUF fighters get) prior to the Hendo fight being booked and the winner being rumored to get a shot at Silva. Once that happened, the trolls came out in full force claiming Hendo was bringing a ‘rusty blade’ to a gunfight and that the Wolfslair was going to take the MW/:LHW/HW belts and run roughshod over the rest of the UFC. It was by far the most persistent and organized trolljob I have seen on the UG, and the backlash after the fight has reflected that.
dan henderson prior to the Bisping fight
“looks like i got a brit before silva, but we already whipped there as back in WW2, Cheer -E-O lets do it again”

That's kind of disturbing.
Does Dan Henderson actually think we fought the British in WW2?

There is ZERO TUF UK-USA hate carryover
I wasn’t a huge fan of TUF 9 but Hardy is waaaaaay off the mark thinking there’s some kind of US(A) against them mentality that has carried over from the season. People were “dancing around the room” when Bisping got KO’d because he come across as a pompous ass.
Bisping started believing his own hype and didn’t respect that the majority of his wins were against lower tier competition and that his bad showings (Evans, Hammill) were against legit competition which is what Henderson is.
I like Hardy. I think he brings a great personality to the sport, I just hope he doesn’t turn into a mini version of Bisping, boohooing UK MMA and trying to build some rivalry that just isn’t there.

I disagree
Go visit any the UG and you will see all kinds of anti-UK vitriol in any Bisping or Wolfslair related thread. Hardy also got a lot of hate prior to the Davis fight because Marcus is a regular poster on that site. However, that has died down substantially and possibly even swung in Hardy’s favor after Davis’ post-fight excuse making and crying.
Of course, it is no coincidence that most of the pro-UK trolling comes from Wolfslair huggers, and that is why the Wolfslair guys get hated on. The Rough House guys don’t have the same type of following and therefore don’t catch the same kind of hate.
Oh I'll be dancing when Hardy loses...
but it has nothing to do with him being a brit, and everything to do with him being a huge douchebag..
Count me in.
I don’t hate UK fighters. I just find Hardy & Bisping extremely annoying.
I was a huge Lee Murray mark back in the day (not so much now in light of his non-MMA activities) and still love Ian Freeman. I also like more recent guys like Paul Taylor, Paul Kelly, & Abdul Mohammed. I just don’t like cocky pricks, and Bisping & Hardy both fall in that category.
I agree with him in general
I think there is a healthy competition type of relationship between the UK and the US. I actually really enjoy it, especially in my time visiting there.
As for Hardy, as far as I am concerned he already got a loss in the UFC. Gono won that fight.
I care so little about Dan Hardy
that I didn’t even know he’s from the UK. I still don’t care.

i disagree..
…with most of the posters on here, whenever i speak to americans about bisping they always put an anti english prefix into the sentence, the fact is for the size of the country we are (smaller than most states) we have a pretty good mma scene and its getting bigger all the time so you better get used to seeing more and more english fighters in the UFC!
What is with the UK guys always crying? It seems like everytime one of them opens thier mouth they’re crying about how americans don’t like them.
Just fight and be exciting and people will like you no matter what nationality you are
Exactly
A good example of a UK fighter that MMA fans like here in the U.S. is “Relentless” Paul Taylor. He doesn’t talk smack, and he ALWAYS has exciting fights. I also don’t hear him crying after he loses (probably because he got a Fight of the Night bonus).
but...
he is a bit under the radar, always on the undercard, i think people just don’t notice him rather than like him

And you hear Bisping crying do you? Or any other British fighter after a loss?
This:
What is with the UK guys always crying?
…is just absolute bullshit.
good point
i actually remember after the fight after a week or so he said….
“As most of you will no doubt be aware, my last fight didnt go exactly to plan, see the previous entry if youve had your head stuck under a rock for the last month. Ive got no excuses, it just wasn’t my night, a bad night at the office you might say. The only problem is when you have a bad day in my line of work, the consequences are a little higher than getting a bollocking off your boss.”
the above is from his site,
and from a article by The Independant…
“"I know there’s been some controversy, but I don’t have any bad feelings about him landing that second shot when I was on the ground. That MMA, you keep hitting until the ref pulls you off. I would have done the same to Dan."
"Fair play to him, he caught me and knocked me out. Everyone saw it. It is a setback, I am p***** off, I was close to a title shot but I will be back. I want to fight in my hometown of Manchester in November and I want a top opponent, I don’t want to go back down a level. I know I can compete with the best and want to prove that right away."
Bisping insists he will be back, aiming to fight on the Manchester UFC 100 card. "The UFC doesn’t put emphasis on unbeaten records like they do in boxing, and fighters like Forrest Griffin, my mate Rampage, Randy Couture, GSP and many others have come back from bad losses to win world titles and I aim to do just that myself."
Obviously, I never planned on getting beat. I felt so confident going into the fight, I was sure I was going to win. I’ve got no excuses, it was an poor performance on the night. I can’t explain why, I can’t pretend I had a bad camp, that I struggled at the weight or any of those types of excuses because the honest truth is I had my best camp ever. I just couldn’t get into any rhythm on the night at all."
No one cares where you're from!
Jesus Christ. No one from the states hates the UK guys. Perform well and people will cheer, that’s it. They keep on acting like everyone is against them or they have something to prove. You never hear the Brazilian guys talk about this. Some of them don’t know a lick of English but have a ton of fans. You know why? Because they PERFORM. That’s all you gotta do UK, quite whining and acting like the world is waiting for you to fail. Bisping was an asshole that’s why everyone loved the KO, not because of where he was from or that Hendo is American. Look at Brock Lesnar, he’s as good old boy American as you come and everyone can’t fucking stand him.
In general, I find that I dislike the UK fans. Not because they’re from the UK, but because they’re so absurdly parochial that virtually no reason seeps into their frenzied minds. Couple that with the obvious, yet necessary, Bisping hype perpetuated by the UFC to grab market share in the UK and it just turns into a big mess. A profitable mess for the UFC, but annoying nonetheless.
The Bisping situation has parallels with the Hatton hype (and to a lesser extent, Calzaghe). Fighters who all had brilliantly managed careers, as to make them appear like world beaters through clever marketing while having very few wins of real significance. (Calzaghe being a mild exception.)
That said, I don’t see the same sort of hype, or selective choices in opponents, behind Dan Hardy. Therefore, I’m rather happy to watch him fight.
I specializes in grammar fail.
I consider myself a Hardy fan
but he’s too paranoid about what U.S. fans care about him and his country. No one really cares about that kind of stuff, he needs to stop bringing it up.

Most citizens in most countries feel strong ties to their nationality. Attend a World Cup qualifier and you will understand. Its them against the world. I can see why fighters/athlete from these countries are proud. We as Amercians use to be the same way. Lake Placid and the Miracle on Ice? Not so much anymore.
I commend these people for being proud of where they are from. It is what drives some of them. If it makes him a better fighter, I am all for it. If it helps sell our sport of MMA, I am all for it.
People hate Bisping cause he is a dick, just like Hughes, Rashad, Diaz and many many others.
