Jason-voorhees

Monte Cox has confirmed to Bloody Elbow that Tim Sylvia will be "the stand-in for Jason Voorhees in the current [Friday the 13th] movie... now filming new movie in Boston."
Update: Just got another email from Monte Cox: "Here is the real scoop... I misunderstood some things. Sylvia is the backup for Michael Myers in Halloween... the one in theaters now. He does have parts in the movie. Currently, he is in Boston filming the movie "Oxy Morons" right now.
sorry for the mixup... Monte"

this is for real?

LMFAO

I guess he’ll do a great jason, he always moved slow in the cage IMO

If you think about it, Sylvia is tall as hell and hefty, like Jason… so it works out.

it works out like that, yeah. but it’s so random. how does this help tim get back in the ufc.

by GregS123 on Sep 3, 2009 4:50 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s training with Team Sityodtong while he’s in Boston.

by Chris Nelson on Sep 3, 2009 4:51 PM EDT up reply actions

that’s good. but still… i would think he’d be better off doing nothing but train at sityodtong.

but, i guess it’s just a cool thing to be able to say you did to your kids some day. sooo random though.

by GregS123 on Sep 3, 2009 4:53 PM EDT up reply actions

well, from his perspective I’m sure it’s more about the money and maybe a foot in the door of a bigger role in a future movie. His days at the top as a fighter are gone, he needs to look out for his cheddar!

by Orcus on Sep 3, 2009 5:07 PM EDT up reply actions

LOL...

Maybe, or he learns how to crush people with invincibility while on the set.

I'm not convinced

that the people he terrorizes couldn’t knock him out with a stiff sneeze though

by Austin Martin on Sep 3, 2009 4:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Are you kidding? One fluke KO from a heavy hitter and the guy has no chin. How many times did Fedor crack him in the head and he wasn’t able to knock him out?

by MMAussie on Sep 3, 2009 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Are you serious? Fedor hit him with about 4 power shots in the 20 seconds they were standing, all of which rocked him and one of which put him down. Yes, he was finished with a choke, but Sylvia was DONE from the moment the first big right hook landed on his jaw.

by gzl5000 on Sep 3, 2009 7:19 PM EDT up reply actions

So 4 power shots from, IMO, one of the top 3 heaviest hitters in the game and that entitles us to make jokes about him being knocked over by a stiff breeze?

by MMAussie on Sep 3, 2009 7:41 PM EDT up reply actions

no no no.....a stiff sneeze

not a breeze. There is a difference

by GetItOn on Sep 3, 2009 11:28 PM EDT up reply actions

yea..

But, tim cant even remotely walk like a human being, let along carry a big knife..AND walk

He’ll only be jason when scenes that suck are being taped.

Maybe if he’s willing to wear the mask into the cage the UFC would be interested in staging a Japan-style Muscleman fight?

So Tim’s story has a happy ending after all (kind of)

by The Bronzeville Bully on Sep 3, 2009 4:48 PM EDT reply actions

They’re making another Friday the 13th remake? Hopefully they make some MAJOR improvements. Jason is not a circus freak with hunting skills protecting his pot, and it’s not ok to make every single character in the movie annoying as all hell.

You actually watched that?

Anything directed by Michael Bay sends me in the opposite direction, even though he puts hotties in his movies.

I finish beers at 1:55.

Actually Bay is the producer, not the director. But either way, the same sentiment is always there for me.

Derek Mears is listed as playing Jason so I wonder if Tim is actually the stand-in? A stand-in in film is the person who substitutes for the actor before filming, for things like lighting or blocking. The pay is decent for the average joe, but it’s would be a huge step down for Tim.

by John Nash on Sep 3, 2009 4:50 PM EDT reply actions

Do stand in’s get credited? Probably at the end with the grips.

Yes. That’s why I am confused. The wording is specific that he’s the stand-in. But on the link it says;

Former UFC heavyweight champion "Maine-iac" Tim Sylvia (24-6) is currently in Boston playing horror film icon Jason Vorhees in the yet-to-be-titled "Friday the 13th" sequel, Fighters.com has confirmed with a source close to the fighter.

On imdb it lists Derek Mears as Jason. Everyone here seems to think he’ll be starring as Jason. Can you give me a confirmation that he’ll be playing Jason or is the stand-in?

by John Nash on Sep 3, 2009 4:58 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s a bit of a moot point, since the character is behind a mask the whole time – you won’t know who is playing Jason at any particular time.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better. -Samuel Beckett

by Scott C. Broussard on Sep 3, 2009 5:10 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s incredulous to me if he was actually the stand-in. First, behind the mask or not, the pay would be significantly lower, and probably uncredited. Second stand-ins can often spend more time on set, while the crew sets up then the actor would. I can’t help but think this would interfere with his training even more than if he was acting in it.

by John Nash on Sep 3, 2009 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions

LOL

I had to look in wikipedia to see what a stand-in was, when I first read I thought he’d stand in for the role, as play the role. damn I feel dumb now. but this is a way set back for big timmey!

by Orcus on Sep 3, 2009 5:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Derek Mears is contracted to play Jason in the sequel so that would mean Tim is actually the stand-in. Stand-ins generally make about $150 a day. A lead’s stand-in will make $250 or two or three times that if you are attached to a major star: Sandra Bullock and Clint Eastwood’s stand-in make good money. But new Line is cheap, so they’d more likely pay close to the minimum.
After saying that, I am guessing he is will not be Derek Mears stand-in. He is being hired to stand-in for a few specific shots where they want someone bigger than the current actor to hulk over his victims in a wide shot. I just can’t believe he would be the actual stand-in.

by John Nash on Sep 3, 2009 5:37 PM EDT up reply actions

So they need a taller, scrawnier, fatter Jason when they want to intimidate people?

Horror movies these days have really lowered their standards.

I'm not quoting fighters only

Monte Cox emailed me the quote.
I gave a HT to Cageside Seats because I wouldn’t have known to ask Monte otherwise.

Jason was some kind of Swamp Monster, so it suits Tim well from the psychological standpoint….

by dancingChicken on Sep 3, 2009 4:50 PM EDT reply actions

Are they going to paint some stupid looking sideburns on the mask?

by Reciprocity on Sep 3, 2009 4:57 PM EDT reply actions

maybe…but only one thing is certain. Jason will have jubblies

No wonder Tim was so unprepared for the Ray Mercer fight, he thought he was gonna get to use the mask and machete.

Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.

I love the Friday 13th movies. I mean, I know they’re all the same, but I still get a kick out of it. My friends and I usually play the gore game, where we each chose a character and see who gets the goriest death.

At any rate, at least Tim is working again.

I love me some Sexyama!

I hope Tim stays as the actor for Jason for the next 10-20 years.

Mears is an awesome dude.

Here’s his show cancelled channel 101 show “Vengeance.”

Something happens at the end of episode 2 that I suspect many MMA fans will appreciate.
