Tim Sylvia Has Surgery, Plans New Year's Return

"'He had surgery on his hand (Monday),' manager Monte Cox told MMAWeekly.com. The surgery went well, but Cox said that Sylvia probably wouldn’t return to action until 'New Year’s.' A return bout, however, has not been contracted yet, but will likely take place in Japan."

Sylvia was supposed to participate in the DREAM "cage" show on October 25th before injuring his hand, so odds are we'll see him on FEG's New Year's Eve "Dynamite!!" card.

That’s funny…I just got a text from Tim telling me this. I have a pretty good idea who he will be fighting. WOW is all I can say.

WOW is all I can say.

Do you mean Tim fighting on NYE or who he’s fighting?

I’m guessing Overeem.

Overeem was already rumored. JLB would be great.

if alistair fights tim before he returns to strikeforce, that’s a pretty risky fight… in the whole grand fedor related scheme of things

Wow to who he might be fighting…I cant say until its confirmed but it is back up to “top teir” competition for Tim.

Not really. Getting beat by Fedor puts everyone in a giant funk.

at least if you’re aa or big tim

Well Tim was coming off a pretty decent showing against Nog. Even tho he lost, I remember hearing the fans cheer for him for the first time in a long time. I agree it prob wasn’t the best move for him but, Tim really did feel he had a good chance against Fedor. As far as being on Dana’s black list, we all know that list is bull shit…I.E. Tito, Kimbo, etc…If Tim can prove to be somewhat relevant again, I would’nt put it past Dana to sign him just to keep him out of Strikeforce. Especially if he wins his next fight. Only time will tell…

You are correct, sir.

He didn’t fuck up anything. He made 800k to fight the best fighter ever and the #1 in his class. THat should be every HWs goal to beat Fedor. He never would have sniffed 800k in 3 fights with the UFC. He did fuck up with Mercer though.

by gunranger on Sep 30, 2009 11:22 AM EDT up reply actions

saying he hasn’t slipped is simply wrong. “He did fuck up with Mercer though.” is exactly what i’m talking about. i’m not saying losing to fedor is a terrible thing, but when you leave the company that can’t get fedor to fight fedor, and look embarrassing in losing, it doesn’t put you in an advantageous position.

by cagefightonacid on Sep 30, 2009 1:04 PM EDT up reply actions

He had the chance to make history. That’s worth the risk. I don’t think many expected Fedor to run through him the way he did though.
