All-Time ADCC Rankings

Before ADCC 2009 began, Ivan Trindade posted an interesting list on Gracie Mag's blog which ranked 67 Abu Dhabi competitors (2000 to present) using the following point system:

Absolute champion - 20 points
Weight class champion - 17 points
Superfight champion - 15 points
Absolute 2nd place - 13 points
Weight class 2nd place - 11 points
Superfight runner-up - 9 points
Absolute 3rd place - 7 points
Weight class 3rd place - 5 points
"Best Technique" winner - 3 points
"Best Fight" winner - 2 points

Before this year's competition began, three-time champion Mark Kerr led the pack with 80 points, barely edging out Marcelo Garcia. But after Marcelinho took the Under 77kg (170 lbs.) silver medal in Barcelona, the scores were updated and - at least according to this system - we've got a new all-time ADCC great.

1 - Marcelo Garcia - 90
2 - Mark Kerr - 80
3 - Mario Sperry - 76
4 - Ricardo Arona - 69
5 - Royler Gracie - 61
6 - Saulo Ribeiro - 61
7 - Jeff Monson - 61
8 - Roger Gracie - 60
9 - Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza - 58
10 - Fabricio Werdum - 57
11 - Jean Jacques Machado - 55
12 - Xande Ribeiro - 52
13 - Braulio Estima - 51
14 - Leonardo Vieira - 47
15 - Alexandre "Soca" Freitas - 42
16 - Alexandre "Cacareco" Ferreira - 40
17 - Ricco Rodriguez - 39
18 - Pablo Popovich - 39
19 - Sean Alvarez - 37
20 - Ricardo Almeida - 36
21 - Dean Lister - 35
22 - Renzo Gracie - 34
23 - Robert Drysdale - 34
24 - Jon Olav Einemo - 30
25 - Roberto Travern - 29
26 - Kareem Bachlov - 28
27 - Demian Maia - 28
28 - Rani Yahya - 28
29 - Marcio Feitosa - 27
30 - Barret Yoshida - 27
31 - Marcio "Pe de Pano" Cruz - 27
32 - Andre Galvao - 23
33 - Hayato "Mach" Sakurai - 18
34 - Rodrigo Gracie - 17
35 - Sanae Kikuta - 17
36 - Mark Robinson - 17
37 - Rafael Mendes - 17
38 - Alexander Savko - 16
39 - Ricardo Liborio - 16
40 - Ricardo Moraes - 13

In the case of a tie, the athlete with the greater accomplishment is listed ahead. For example, if they were tied in points, an athlete with an Absolute championship would be placed in front of an athlete who had won a weight division.

(ADCC hasn't announced the "Best Fight" awards for this year yet, but I'll update the post when they do.)

Xande Ribeiro made a big leap - from #29 to #12 - with his win in the -99kg (218 lbs.) division and second place showing in the Absolute bracket.

Nice find. I’m surprised to see Mario Sperry so close to the top without him having competed recently.

Ok

So I’m interested in following the Grappling world more. Any good site recommendations?

What are you interested in specifically? Like grappling results? Techniques? Etc?

Maybe I can help you out… also the best advice in following grappling is to start grappling. Gimme an area and I can see if there’s a good school there.

What he said.

And a bit of both. I’m still looking for a decent school around here.

Are you close enough to Atlanta to go to Alliance? http://www.alliancebjj.com/, Alliance Martial Arts Center® 6331 Roswell Road Atlanta, GA 30328 (404) 843-0606 info@alliancebjj.com

Alliance has Reubens “Cobrinha” Charles teaching at it, he’s probly one of the top grapplers in the world right now.

If so, that’s a pretty great team, not sure about their prices though. You also have a Pedro Sauer affiliate down there at:

Gracie Jiu Jitsu Balance Academy
195 Raymond Hill Road
Suite H, Newnan, GA 30265
graciebalance.com

there’s another gracie affiliate at:

Gracie Brazilian Jiujitsu
233 Arnold Mill Rd
Woodstock, GA 30188-5551
aplusmartialarts.net

Alliance is the first thing that came to mind, but a search threw out those two as pretty good places if they’re closer/cheaper.

Great

That’s like 15 minutes away from me. I’ll definitely look into those. Thanks.

Dude if Alliance is 15 minutes away from you I am envious as hell, if you get the chance to train at a place like that… TAKE IT.

Literally, after a few months of being completely wrecked by every single student there a whole new world will open up and stuff will start to click. Just gotta stay relaxed, BJJ is not MMA, training partners are like toys… don’t break them!

I’m going to check out Alliance and A+ next week. There’s about a $50 difference in monthly payments though. I’ll see if there’s a warranted $50.
