Probably when they’ll ask new questions.

Anything good? Can you post a transcript for those of us at work? Thanks

They talk about over exposure on TV, how it killed boxing, but dana disagree and says boxing show only bad fights for free. The UFC shows great fight for free so they don’t fear over exposure, then he says people aren’t bored with football even though it’s always on tv. Then they ask where is the ufc’s mike tyson, and dana says they got brocklesnar and silva. Well nothing really new.

listening now, nothing new. if you’ve heard one interview with dana over the last 2 years… thats what this is.

Fighting transcends all barriers, language, rules, everyone gets it. It’s in our DNA and we like and get fighting. The other sports don’t have that. Crickett will never be big here and football will never be big in Europe. We don’t get any mainstream coverage and we’re still doing as well as we are.

That’s loosely quoted. He gave an impressive interview actually.

“If we had only done two shows for the years we’d have done 10 million buys” comparing the success of Mayweathers to UFC 103.

103 would have done better if they had bigger names. None of those guys were a draw.

it was a stretch for the hardcores.
i’m a huge rich franklin fan… but come on, he’s a co-main event at most.

as for CroCop… i dont think anyone wanted to see him get beaten. so no one was that excited that he was even on the card.

Many people were excited.

I was excited about the possibility of Cro’s rising up in the UFC, but in my heart I knew the reality and so I didn’t spend anything on him. After watching Overeem I was pretty much sold that he was finished.

You can complain about how he says the same things, but it doesn’t make it less true.

by HeroCasey on Sep 29, 2009 3:00 PM EDT reply actions

i’m not saying its less true. i would compare it to why people read so many MMA blogs, most sites have the same story, just worded differently, some better than others. dana white should learn how to package what he says in different ways. 1 way for this interview, 1 way for another, same points, but it keeps every interview new and exciting.

He's doing great!

Did you listen to the other peoples comments, questions? They STILL don’t understand, so it doesn’t matter if Dana was talking in Russian with a French accent… They don’t get it… so he talks passed them… as he did in that interview….

Just cause it's a theme song don't make it not true

The only real new thing was talking about 103 and Mayweather. They called him out about saying that 103 was going to beat the boxing match and Dana said he said that because he’s a promoter. They didn’t really let him finish his thought, but it seemed like he was trying to say that he had to pick a fight with Mayweather to get mainstream exposure for 103.

by Phildo on Sep 29, 2009 4:11 PM EDT reply actions

Mayweather picked the fight by going against the relatively weak 103. On a related note, I am getting tired of people bitching about boxing and MMA getting into conflicts and talking trash on each other. Neither one is gonna convince people to not watch the other, and so the only real effect is more attention on both sports, which is a good thing.

A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.

by iiowyn on Sep 29, 2009 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Yea, I think it was interesting because it was actually Dana being real.

There’s a bunch of posts here talking about how it’s just the regular talking points, but they all just ignore the one relevant thing he actually said, which is the way it seems to go. Get pissy when he says something in promoter-speak, then use those things to call him a liar when he actually says something that might be interesting.

by Phildo on Sep 29, 2009 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Some people are clueless. Apparently when two grown men grapple it’s just wrastlin…

Don't argue for the sake of arguing....

by Screwface on Sep 29, 2009 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Tis true… If they did two cards a year, they’d have BJ, GSP, Anderson, Machida, Brock, Forrest, Kimbo, Hughes, Tito, Chuck, Randy, etc on both cards. They could conceivably do 15mil.

Don't argue for the sake of arguing....

by Screwface on Sep 29, 2009 11:31 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Tis not true. Not even close.

UFC 100 was this big event, and that didn’t even break 2 million. No MMA card they put together (with their current roster) could do 10 million. There just aren’t enough PPV buyers out there.

It still amazes me how people who are only now being exposed to that pink elephant in the back room continue to respond to the notion that UFC and MMA is becoming a big deal. I don’t think any of us are under any illusion that MMA will die anytime soon. Dana’s right, the sport is getting huge and we are only now seeing the explosion. Wait till the chain reaction hits…and white collar newscasters continue to be cynical toward that prospect. That guy in the glasses held an air of skepticism over Dan White’s entire rant. And he;s only one of many who do this (ESPN anchors, boxing old guys, tight cheeked McCain worshippers, etc.) I will say, though, that it gives me a sense of vindication when MMA takes that next leap…seeing an ESPN ticker report of Herschel Walker signing with Strikeforce being the most recent example. The proverbial face slaps can only go on being ignored for so long.

I still hate Dana. But I guess I like when he tools oblivious business experts.

This is the best version of Dana White...The Promoter and The Fan

He obviously loves this sport and his organization and wants to take it global.

This is one of the first interviews that I’ve realized that he wants to be BIGGER that the NFL and Nascar. He wants the UFC to be global.

“I don’t care what your color, race, or country you are from, fighting is in all of our DNA.”

Fucking eh!

He keeps on saying that quote over and over again but each time he says it hes speaking truth!
