Herschel Walker has multiple personality disorder
Turns out Walker may not be of sound mind. Found this interesting article: http://www.herschelwalker.net/content.asp?title=ABC%27s%20Nightline%20Interview%20with%20Bob%20Woodruff&menuid=Interviews&contentid=ABC%20Bob%20Woodruff&id=112
An exerpt for ya:
""I told somebody once, 'You don't want the Herschel that plays football ... babysitting your child," Walker told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff. "When I am competing, I am a totally different person.'"
He means it literally.
For the first time, the 46-year-old former professional football player reveals in a book published this week, "Breaking Free," that he has a rare and controversial mental illness called dissociative identity disorder — or D.I.D. — formerly known as multiple personality disorder.
"I had it the whole time, I just didn't know what it was," Walker said.
The athlete who played 15 seasons of professional football in the NFL and USFL and pushed a bobsled for the 1992 U.S. Olympic team in Albertville, France; the family man who married his college sweetheart; the man who once danced with the Fort Worth Ballet; the business man
Walker says none of those guys were him. Not really. Those were his "alters," he says -- alternate personalities. "
The article goes on to list some rather frightening things he has done in the past involving guns and loved ones.
Dr Johnny Benjamin also has a blog post suggesting a link between the above and repeated concussions. You have to assume an NFL RB with a career as long as his, he must have had more than his fair share.
At first when I heard about Herschal entering into MMA I thought it was a bad idea. But I was quickly turned around when I heard he was donating his earnings to charity and recalled his long time martial arts training. Well, I've come 360 now. I'm actually hoping an athletic commision won't allow him in the ring.

MMA would be struggling if athletic commissions banned any fighter with a personality disorder.

This article seems to imply Walker had been struggling with the disease for the majority of his adult life at least. Walker probably has enough money to afford quality medical care. I’m sure his doctors wouldn’t let him fight if it would be dangerous for him.
And neither will the AC’s if that’s the case. As long as they stay in commissioned states, it shouldn’t be an issue.
"That feeling after you win and they raise your hand... it's like you have this energy that releases from your body, and it's like you mingle with the cosmos, and you feel omnipotent"
The whole article actually
states Walker has suffered w/MPD for the majority of his life even prior to football.
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
Wow-Breaking News Sounder From Like Last Wk?

Yes, this is old news, but not to everyone.
I thought I had read all the other posts on this site about Walker and I don’t remember anyone bringing up his D.I.D.
Actually, it was brought up in every post on BE.

It was brought up but never by anyone writing the story only in the comments. In fact I haven’t seen any writer bring it up in their articles about Herschel Walker on any site not just this one.
It’s odd to me that no one thinks it’s worth figuring out if it’s safe for a 47 year old man with a serious mental disorder to fight. I mean with all the studies going on with the NFL and concussions causing mental problems for players you think someone would wonder. Especially considering he probably has already suffered a concussion or two while playing football in the NFL and college.
Maybe someone should contact a doctor that would know and put this to rest.
Just BE.
If someone would have told me 6 months ago that at some local MMA show they were going to let a 47 year old man with a serious mental disorder fight in MMA I would have been very disappointed in whoever was allowing this to happen.
So I’m not sure why I should feel any different about it happening now? Is it because his name is Herschel Walker?
Just BE.
No, it’s because it’s not a local mma show, it’s strikeforce. If you say anything bad about them that means you hate MMA and want to have Dana’s children.

If you say you hate Herschel Walker it's the unforgivable sin.
That’s the truth, I’m not being sarcastic.

Having Dana’s children is really going to hurt?
But seriously this isn’t about Herschel Walker or Strikeforce it’s about setting a precedent for fighter safety in my opinion.

Reply fail.
Was supposed to be a reply to Phildo.

I know, I was being sarcastic, but it’s hard to have a real conversation here without coming off or being attacked as a nuthugger for some org.
The athletic commissions are supposed to be the one’s policing this stuff, and I really don’t know enough about it but to trust that they’re going to do their job properly. Hopefully they can ignore the fact that he is Herschel Walker and everyone involved does their due dillegence.

What? This is the first I’ve heard of this.

I got your sarcasm. I was trying to say what you said here:
Hopefully they can ignore the fact that he is Herschel Walker and everyone involved does their due dillegence.
That is what I was hoping to get across. I just can’t see the proper due diligence being done if no one is even willing to ask the question or the people that do ask the question get ignored.
Just BE.
