M-1 Standout Lucio Linhares Signs With UFC, Faces Rousimar Palhares in December
InTheGuard.TV is reporting that UFC middleweight Rousimar "Toquinho" Palhares has drawn a new opponent for the TUF 10 Finale in December. Toquinho was originally slated to take on Alessio Sakara, but the Italian will apparently have to drop out of the bout due to "documentation" issues, paving the way for the UFC to bring in the ultra-agressive and BJJ black-belt, Lucio Linhares as a new signing and replacement for Sakara:

Rousimar Palhares, the "Toquinho", has a new adversary. Alleging problems with documentation, Alessio Sakara was substituted by Lucio Linhares (following a source close to the athlete). Lucio is a Jiu-Jitsu black belt of the Alliance Team and has made his mark in M-1, where he conquested a sequence of five consecutive victories. Rousimar Palhares is completely recovered from his surgery and is training hard at Brazilian Top Team in Lagoa, Rio de Janeiro - Brazil.
Linhares (13-4) will be a legitimate test for the submission-savvy Palhares, with an excellent ground game of his own, and solid striking skills in addition. A veteran of the M-1 Challenge series, Linhares is on a five-fight winning streak, with all five wins coming via first-round stoppage (2 KOs, 3 submissions). Most recently, Linhares choked out Mikhail Zayats at M-1's "Breakthrough" event in August, while he also holds notable victories over Karl Amoussou and Sean Salmon.
Current rumored TUF 10 Finale card:
Matt Hamill vs. Jon Jones
Heavyweight Finalist 1 vs. Heavyweight Finalist 2
Frankie Edgar vs. Kurt Pellegrino
Rousimar Palhares vs. Lucio Linhares
Dennis Hallman vs. John Howard
Mark Bocek vs. Matt Veach
Kimbo Slice vs. TBA

This is a nice card. Has Hamill vs Jones been confirmed as the main event yet? I am pretty sure Kimbo will be the second televised fight on this card.

I didn't list card in any particular order
and I haven’t heard any rumors about Hamill-Jones being the main event, but it seems likely at this point.
He could be in the finals
but right now all that’s known is that Kimbo will be fighting somebody, and the two finalists will fight. It’s only logical to leave them as separate rumored fights until we hear otherwise.
Because his first fight is against Roy Nelson.

Nice.
Linhares was one of the best unsigned 185’ers out there. He’s been killing in the M-1 Challenge.
(Also has one of the best Fight Finder pictures.)

Thiago Alves has been moved to TUF Finale as well...
He said it himself a few days ago. He said he couldn’t say who he was fighting. I know he was supposed to fight Paulo Thiago at UFC 107.
That could be explosive.
Or it could be a KO in under 1 min, by either guy, but most likely Thiago.

I have a hard time buying this
They’re gonna take a guy who just co-main evented 2 ppv’s and put him on TUF finale?
I guess anything is possible but Ill believe it when it is confirmed.
This is a kimbo slice season,
So the other guys are bound to have tons of exposure.

becasue strikeforce needs more talent and this guy was right there for them and he wouldve made a great addition… but i have no idea why it did or didnt happen.

Funny how the well being of strikeforce seems more important for you.
Signing with the UFC is the guy’s big break and he has a huge opportunity to make it even bigger by having a strong performance against palhares.

i liked his fight and i hope he fucks up that Brazilian dude… i am just saying i want him in strikeforce for selfish reasons… thats it. .. and i am more curious if M1 and Strikeforce just passed up on him, or was the UFC deal that that much better?

why would you want to see him fight b-level fighters when he can fight a-level fighters, especially since your that impressed by him? wierd.
well, i want to see him fight guys that are at his level right now… so i am sure there are plenty of those guys in strikeforce/dream/ m1… but clearly, the ufc sees a marketable fighter and grabbed him…. props to them.

Linhares is fun to watch.
I researched him about 2 months ago and followed him into the M1 Breakthrough show. I must say I was super impressed… he is very very aggressive and quite skilled at striking for BJJ black belt. He destroyed Karl Amoussou , who is M-1’s next big thing.
I could see him making some major waves in the UFC. WAR LINHARES!
Paul Harris vs. Lynn Harris!
A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.

It seems the whole M-1 challenge feeder system isn’t working out the way they had hoped. I was under the impression that M-1 was going to do talent development for the bigger shows they’re allied with like StrikeForce and DREAM.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the UFC is looking to intentionally poach M-1s better fighters (excluding the big two). M-1 only has so much money to throw around. If Zuffa makes a big offer to every M-1 free agent who hits the market, M-1 won’t be able to match them all. Linhares was definitely one of the top five guys under the M-1 banner.
The good thing is that Strikeforce has their own talent and some of the guys fighting in the M-1 Challenge are actually Strikeforce fighters (like Shane Del Rosario) or Nakamura (DREAM).

A guy from M1 signed to UFC? Now that wasn’t so hard Fedor was it?
