In his first interview since UFC 101, Forrest Griffin talks Rampage Jackson, Anderson Silva, future opponents, and (not) being a role model with MMA:30's Dave Farra (quickly becoming my favorite MMA interviewer).

I read his book, and it’s fairly obvious that he is a mentally troubled person. That said, he’s hilarious whenever he’s in his comfort zone and I hope he can get his career back on track.
I’ve come to believe there’s a fine line between people that are actually mentally troubled and those that are willing to expose their human frailties. I believe Forrest is someone that has balls enough to talk publicly about the parts of himself that aren’t so flattering. We all have those parts. We just don’t get on television and talk about them.

he used to be a cop
he’s supposed to be mentally stable. I’m sure this is just for the camera, it’s his “celebrity” persona.
uncomfortable to watch really
"I want to tell me what you see, let's go ahead and see by the fight what you saw, in the ring"
Give Forrest his props
I mean he did take the Silva fight which most people dont want especially right after you lose the belt.
I’m interested to know when he is gonna get back in and against who? It will be interesting to see who he takes on and if he can get back in the winners circle.
I have to agree that Dave Farra is pretty awesome.
And while I usually enjoy Forrest’s interviews, this one was pretty lame.
Dave is awesome....
Forrest however is just losing his appeal to me. I can’t stand athletes that are unwilling to take the fan attention/media responsibility along with the money and fame that they get from being a pro athlete. This isn’t highschool, get over yourself, quit trying to be so damn “cool” and do your job, part of which is talking to the press.
There are many celebrities who don’t indulge the public. Cro Cop would generally avoid excessive media attention. Robert Crumb never signs autographs. Bill Waterson retired to a suburb and asked to be left alone. Thomas Pynchon hasn’t been photographed since the 1950s (though presumably he’s active in his kids’ PTA programs – he’s an odd man). If someone doesn’t want the attention, they shouldn’t be forced into it; what do you say – if you don’t take this interview, you’re fired from the UFC?

No, but
in today’s day and age anyone who acts suprised by the attention that comes along with the money, etc…shouldn’t get any sympathy.
I’m not trying to specifically bash Forrest, but I am sure he didn’t mind the attention too much when he was wearing the belt.
He sure seemed to enjoy it, too, after winning TUF.

How is it being “cool” to not like the fact that people heap their hopes and dreams onto you as a fighter? That’s quite a bit of pressure that he seems to not like dealing with. He’s only human, if he wants to be left alone and not bugged, then so be it. If people are really sitting at home crying into tissue because he didn’t do an interview until now, or chose to respond or act the way he did on the Silva loss…..then they are the ones with the problem, NOT Forrest.
Just because most atheletes talk to the press, doesn’t mean that should be the mold that everyone must fit into to make people like you happy.
So it’s not ok to respond to someone who has a viewpoint I don’t agree with? You seem to do that quite a bit yourself.
You're welcome,
and thank you for joining the discussion!!! You really brought a tremendous amount to the table. Keep it up, you’re going places!
I can't put my finger on it but his attitude turns me off....
Maybe the term “cool” isn’t it. There is something about his attitude I just don’t like. I understand doing interviews after a loss, especially immediately after a loss in the cage is tough. However, at least acknowledge the fans that cheer for you and thank everyone for coming. Thank the people that bust their ass to help you train etc. I just see Forrest’s perspective as very selfish.
A fighter’s personality is what makes us fans/haters and I can definitely understand where you’re coming from. I don’t get why some ppl get pissy if someone does not like a fighter’s attitude towards something (in this case Forrest’s attitude after losing). We are entitled to criticize anyone in the sport, since we are followers of the sport and contribute to the sport (we’re the ones paying their bill after all). I actually like Forrest, but like you, I thought he completely disrespected Silva by not staying and talking to Rogan after the fight, and for not talking to anyone (from the press) for a long ass time.
TROLL!!!
Just kidding – welcome to the fold. Lurked any? For how long?

shh, we dont say that name around here anymore
"Like a ballet of violence clothed in fine Brazilian silk." ~ MMASuPreMaCy
He who shall not be named

Miguel Torres- "I'm gonna give him a taste of the East Chicago Waterfall."
Rashad Evans- "That sounds disgusting."
He’s a contributor on another site that refers to all their readers as “jackals.” I’ve never understood calling your fans names; Rome: clones, FL: jackals, etc… The whole thing’s stupid, I hate that site.

Also, I’m using the term “contributor” loosely.

Yeah, you meant "hilarious MMA news god"
And I agree.
Don't believe a word I say, I don't train BJJ.
I blog at TangleBones - you should follow me on Twitter here.
reminds me when Charles Barkley did the “I am not a role model” thing.

Na, this his much different....
The issue here is being exposed to the media and fan attention, specifically after losing.
Forrest is da man
Yeah , I read his book , I guess he’s not what you’d call “normal” , but who cares. And who knows how real were all the stuff that he wrote there , tho I do think that many fighters have the crazy thing going on . But crazy or not he’s still the man .
spooky
yup… silva wins, and before he walks out the cage , he inhales really hard and steals your soul…ask rich franklin….
