Somdet vs. Tahara II in November for First Shooto Flyweight Title

Shooto has confirmed the first bout for its November 23rd "Revolutionary Exchanges 3" show, which should turn out to be a big one, as Sustain has again booked the 3,100-seat JCB Hall.

#1- and #2-ranked 114-pounders Noboru "Shinpei" Tahara (7-3-1) and Rambaa "M-16" Somdet (6-2) will meet again, this time with the vacant Shooto Flyweight Championship on the line. The pair's first match from last September (above) ended with "M-16" taking a unanimous decision. Tahara has since moved ahead in the rankings thanks to wins over Shinya Murofushi and bantamweight Jesse Taitano, while Somdet has been inactive for all of 2009.

What’s crazy is that supposedly Romdet could cut down to 115 without much problem. I really hope we see Flyweights and even Strawweights in the larger promotions soon. Wasn’t the WEC supposed to be doing Flyweight matches already? Are we gonna have to wait until Summer of 2010 for that or something?

Ack ^^

Misread the article. Didn’t realize that Romdet actually is fighting at 114 here. I guess Shoot calls their Flyweights “Bantamweights” and calls 114 their “Flyweight” division. The is easily the most major fight at 114/115 ever though, which is great.

Shooto, typically, has chosen to forge their own path with their weightclass designations

Needlessly confusing, but what can you do—technically they consider Shooto to be its own distinct sport.

WEC flyweight division was supposed to be this fall, but it got pushed back to early 2010.

Last I heard, they might do a grand prix to get it kickstarted, which would be illy.
