Jackson Vs. White - My Take On It.

You gotta love Jackson. Nobody, apart from maybe Tito, can keep himself in the media spot light for a longer period of time. From dancing in the street on YouTube, dry humping a young lady during an interview to trash talking with Evans. You get it all with Jackson.

So start at the beginning: Jackson is a coach of the TUF Series 10, going to fight Evans in his hometown then he is going to get his belt back by winning a title fight against Machida (depending on injuries). Everybody understand, everybody happy? Good. The UFC is going to make money so White is ecstatic, Jackson is going to fight in front of his hometown so he's happy and Evans is over the moon because, finally after all the trash-talk, he'll get the opportunity to spoil Jackson's plans and win.

Then comes the rumors about the A-Team which throws everything against the wall.

Star-divide

White says this, Jackson says this, White pokes the bear again, Jackson quits the UFC, White starts calling names, Jackson posts his thoughts... I honestly don't remember when it started but all I know is now, Evans is left holding the bag. How did thing get so screwed up?

If I was Dana, sure, I'd be pissed at Jackson (and the media) that seemed to gloss over how the UFC bought the WFA to get Jackson's fight contract and bring him to the big-time. Then, only a bit over a year ago (July '08), when Dana displayed that 'drop everything attitude' after Jackson decided to mounted a kerb in his RV, failed to give way and ram some other annoying little other vehicles on his way to getting arrested. And again, when Dana/Joe Silva gave Jackson a title fight against Chuck after that more-hype-then-fight event with Eastman. Jackson has cost the UFC a bit in two and a half years he's been with them... But then again, I'd counting my money if I was White. Yep, that pile of money you or I couldn't jump over. Jackson has made the UFC some serious coin, don't ever forget that. And in the back of my mind I just can't put it past White that this is the real reason he's pissed. The lost opportunity to make money with Jackson.

That all said, I totally agree with Luke, the days where White can 'speak his mind' about things are over. It's going to cost the UFC big time soon. As the UFC gains more mainstream media exposure he can't just rant about Loretta Hunt and what a %^@** and how she is a %$(*! because he doesn't like her negative UFC stories anymore. And nor should White call one of the best self-promoting fighters the UFC has, 'a big baby' when the mood strikes him. White got caught calling StrikeForce - StrikeFarce - after the Fedor/UFC deal failed. Am I alone in thinking Dana regrets that now every time they hear Dana correct a reporter by saying, 'I don't have a problem with StrikeForce it's Showtime I don't like'?

And yes, Jackson should bite his tongue about certain things because Roger Huerta doesn't think the film industry is all that it's cracked up to be anymore and wants back in the UFC. Jackson shouldn't be counting money he hasn't earned yet as an actor because it's not like he can get a job working as doctor. He is a professional fighter/actor/MMA commentator/taxi driver... that's about it.

For me, it's a lot like high school with Jackson and White. We've all seen the 'behind the scenes clips' of them laughing at the events in England. Put them in a room and they'll be laughing and agreeing that it crazy to argue over such stupid things and within ten minutes start planning for another 'biggest MMA fight ever' in 2010.

Way I figure it: when two parties are at polar ends of opinions - somewhere in the middle the truth lies. Unless you are going to be constructive in your comments about each other zip it before you say something you can't take back.

a happy by-product

I don’t doubt that we’re seeing Dana and Quinton’s worst sides playing out in an authentically inflamed situation, HOWEVER, how much of this is theater? Quinton is getting his A-Team role some exposure and White is drawing attention to one of the coaches of his currently running reality show. White may now be short one big named fighter, but at least now he’s selling the absence of a fighter, which will eventually be filled. And, if and when, Rampage returns, his fight will be that much more anticipated. Again, this may not be manipulation, but it’s a happy by-product of the feud. Vince McMahon anyone?

Just my opinion, but I don’t think this is a work. For starters, it’s too risky – stuff like this would be difficult to keep under wraps and if the proverbial cat were to get out of the bag, it might not play terribly well for MMA.

agreed if it was a work – Dana wouldn’t use sone of his highest profile fighters… maybe someone without a huge profile like fitch or someone on the wane – forest.
