If you were hit by a fist, backed behind over hundreds of pouds of man flesh, you would act silly like that aswell.

for all intents and purposes, just consider all my posts as works of satire.

Im sure as hell I would be feelin silly after a back fist of that mass behind it landing right on my chin. Really though I swear when I first saw this I thought to myself WTF? What was that fish flail on the way to the ground? lol Funny stuff to see Butterbean win by Sub.

I dont think it was the submission that made him tap, it was the near ton of man flesh just crushing his lungs.

It would not be the first time Butterbean was involved on the winning side of a work. I disagree that the sylvia fight loked worked, but you are not the first person I have heard say that.

"I disagree that the sylvia fight loked worked"

Really? I dont think that a lot of fights are fixed, but that Sylvia-Mercer fight definitely fit the mold of what I think a fix would look like. Who knows, but my suspicions of a fixed fight have not been raised that much before seeing that fight.

I think he was talking about the most recent sylvia fight. Not the Mercer fight. And what is to gain from working a sylvia-mercer fight? They are not going to make any coin from a mercer win.

by szucconi on Sep 21, 2009 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Has Sylvia had a fight since the Mercer fight?

Sometimes fights are fixed just because of the name. Like you dont seriously think those two took that fight to really see who could win do you?

not sure exactly what you are trying to say, but i do not think the sylvia/mercer fight was fixed. unless you’ve got real evidence of some kind, this kind of accusation isn’t a good one to throw around.

Take it easy corky.

I am not making an accusation. I am voicing my opinion. If you think that fight was legit & set up to truthfully see who would win, then more power to ya. I dont.

Who is trying to inflame anything?

That is what I thought when I watched the fight. Just because an opinion is not popular doesnt mean you shouldnt voice it.

by dnevil001 on Sep 21, 2009 4:07 PM EDT up reply actions

First, sylvia fought friday night and beat Jason Riley. One of my freinds asked me the next day if I thought it was a fix to save tim’s career since he needed a win and his manager runs the promotion. I said it was more bad match making then a fix. I could expand more if you cared, but back to Mercer.

If they had paid Mercer to lay down for sylvia, then maybe you can think fix. But you have to remember that it was going to be a boxing match and the whole card was a clusterfuck. Then Tim comes in really fat and out of shape. Then get taken out in 10 seconds. Mercer gains nothing from this. Everyone knew that Mercer hits really fucking hard. Most people knew that if you rush sylvia that he is vulnerable (see fedor and randy fight him). Mercer was looking for a paid check based on his name, not to create a name by beating a guy like sylvia. There is no motive and more then enough evidence to say the fight was legit.

Something to remember, I love MMA and think its a more fun sport to watch then boxing, but at this point Boxers hit much harder then guys in MMA. Now that is an over simplification, but there is a reason for it. Boxing is a much more subtle sport so the techniques are more refined so boxers can derive more punching power because they spend more time working on doing just that. Also guys with a large amount of natural power go to boxing becasue there is more money there. Again, an over simpification, but one that I think holds water. In MMA you have so much you have to work on that the game is much less subtle and you can’t refine your techniques as much without neglecting an area of study.

I just think it was entertainment period

& they did not care who won but thought it may be more entertaining if Mercer won. The fight had nothing to do with either person gaining something for their careers anyway.

It would have been more entertaining if it had lasted more then 10 seconds. I don’t find that entertaining at all. People do remember it though, so I guess there is that…

by dnevil001 on Sep 21, 2009 4:00 PM EDT up reply actions

It was going to be a boxing bout. It was going to be the debut of sylvia in Pro Boxing. They were going to box in a cage I don’t see how you can not understand how anyone thought the bout was entertaining and yet you suggest that is why it was fixed, so it could be entertaining. Was it a bout made in good faith, no. It was a bout that they though sylvia could win easily and it was a compelling main event for a tiny card. Mercer turned sylvia’s career onto its head. You are saing fix with zero evidence. AKA troll.

by szucconi on Sep 21, 2009 4:06 PM EDT up reply actions

You need to chill man.

Someone on here brought that fight up & others were talking about how they thought the Butterbean fight was fixed, that is what I posted about. That is not trolling. And Mercer turned Sylvia’s career on it head? Really? Because it was on such a clear path to success right.

Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.

by dnevil001 on Sep 21, 2009 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions

He was talking about the Riley fight, and that has a much stonger case for work. And yeah, sylvia lost to Nog and Fedor before he fought Mercer. No shame in that. Then after the Mercer loss people are saying he is in a must win senario in the riley fight. Giving him and his management the motivation to fix the fight. I tore up your argument and I get that it was just your opinion, but you offer no reason other then speculation. You are the one who brought up the mercer fight and to me, you are trolling. Just my opinion man, so chill out.

by szucconi on Sep 21, 2009 4:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I asked if he was talking about the Mercer fight.

Sylvia’s “boxing” career is what the Mercer fight was about, so dont pretend that fighting Mercer was somehow going to catapult him into boxing stardom & how Mercer killed that by beating him. It was BS match to begin with, just like the ending.

by dnevil001 on Sep 21, 2009 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Fighting Mercer was not a catapult into big things, it was taking the Kimbo path. Fighting a guy with a name and zero chance of beating you. Mercer, however, is dangerous when you come into the fight completely out of shape. Was it productive matchmaking, no. Was is fixed in the way WWE is fixed (for entertainment), no.

by szucconi on Sep 21, 2009 4:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I am not doubting Mercer being

dangerous at all. For me & in my opinion, the whole thing just made no sense from jump. It simply seemed like entertainment to me & it really didnt matter who won because no matter the outcome, neither guy was going any further in boxing.

The rest of his career, really?

I think Timmeh realizes there is not much left of his career & was willing to take the payday knowing that in the grand scheme of things it would not really change his prospects of fighting in the future.

Do you really believe

that any organization that was going to take Sylvia changed their minds because, as you say, he was beat by Mercer who by all accounts is a very dangerous striker at 50 years old?

by dnevil001 on Sep 21, 2009 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, I do think people would think twice before signing Tim. He is a laughing stock right now because of the Mercer loss and is rebuilding from the bottom. There is a lot he can do to reinvent himself and make a comeback, but that was a blow to his career. I don’t think you can kill the career of a “former UFC champ”, but you can lower his future paychecks by over 50%.

by szucconi on Sep 21, 2009 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions

I just think

that if Sylvia had beaten Mercer it would not have done anything to further his career. Sylvia is what he is & what do you think he could do to ’reinvent himself

Be in better shape. Basically in a nut shell, that is all. But a more supportive camp would do wonders. He is a big guy with a long reach. He is hard to fight. I think Keith Jardine could do wonders fro his standup.

Also, the mercer fight, had he won, would not have put him back on top, but it was a safe win.

by szucconi on Sep 21, 2009 5:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree with you about

being in better shape, but he has never been one who seemed overly concerned with being in great shape. And as far as camps go, I thought he was a top dog at Miletich? I just think that Sylvia is a one trick pony who isnt that good at the one trick, which is why it really didnt matter

This is not Japan. Fights aren’t fixed…. also, just look at the fight. Sylvia was out cold… I doubt he would have agreed to getting KTFO in 9 seconds.

And whats that model To just let the other fighter crack you in the jaw as hard as he can to KO you cold ? I guess this is how it went down between Tim and Ray before the fight. it was weird looking because of how he was covering his face on the ground, as if he was hurt. did he get hit in that exchange, or just slip and cover his face?

nonetheless, see my point above about how the mat (depending on the material) can get EXTREMELY slippery during outdoor events and basically unsafe for fighting.

I don’t think they were works persay. But the Alexander & Sylvia fights were as close as you can get without breaking the law. Picking opponents that far below their levels is just this side of cheating.

I mean, did anyone think Danny Shearman, 11-13, had a chance?

Only the extreme Timmeh hate could have made people think that Riley was a serious opponent for him.
