Quote of the Day: Strikeforce Champ Gegard Mousasi Talks Nicknames

Gegard "Kingo" "The Young Vagabond" "Soldier of Fortune" "The Dream Catcher" Mousasi

"My friend came up with (the Dreamcatcher), so blame it on him. I don't like nicknames, to be honest. I have a lot of nicknames. They called me Kingo in Japan, they called me the Young Vagabond, but that sounds bad, then Soldier of Fortune, now they call me the Dream Catcher. He said that's a good name. It's original. I read on the internet that people don't like the name. [Ed. note: Whoops] I'd rather have no nickname, but with my style, you can't really put a name on it. A good nickname for me hasn't come up. I told Strikeforce that I didn't want to use a nickname, but they put it up anyway."

Young Vagabond? Soldier of Fortune? Weak. Not sure if I like Dream Catcher any better. Ranks right up there with other crappy nicknames, like Natural Born Killer.

I love me some Sexyama!

I don't know

I liked Young Vagabond just fine. Dream Catcher? What’s the significance of that? He keeps his opponents from having night terrors? Maybe Dream Killer, but Dream Catcher is weak.

I STILL poop rainbows.

Young vagabond? Musashi was a vagabond it was probably a reference to the legendary swordman (and philosopher). He had a musashi avatar for the super hulk tournament btw.

Gegard fights like a samurai assasin; his fists are like katana blades.

for all intents and purposes, just consider all my posts as works of satire.

Dream killer would be better

Same thing as dream catcher if you want to put a nice little twist on it.

I think he should go with Dream Weaver and take care of two birds with one stone.

With nicknames like those it’s understandable that he’d rather go without one.

With talent like his, who needs a good nickname?

How about “Younger Expressionless Fedor”

by GetItOn on Sep 2, 2009 8:38 PM EDT reply actions

“Expressionless Fedor” is a bit redundant isn’t it?

The Young Vagabond was a GREAT nickname.

Yea, fits the story of his life too.

If he doesn’t like that, he could always get something original, like “Hitman” or “Assassin”.

Gegard “Mighty” Mousasi

by DirtyML on Sep 2, 2009 9:11 PM EDT reply actions

“The Young Vagabond” is clearly the most clever and creative of those options. I was scratching my head on “Dreamcatcher” the first time I heard it and it hasn’t grown on me. To me its a worthless nickname for a fighter or anyone really. He should slap his friend that came up w/that idea.

Mousasi

is already a sick name. He should just go with one name.

by cyph on Sep 2, 2009 10:00 PM EDT reply actions

Young Vagabond was awesome. He could always just change it to The Vagabond when he gets older.

by Zack Gobie on Sep 2, 2009 10:03 PM EDT reply actions

just spell his name MUSASHI, one of the most historic japanese warriors in history

by pandaboy99 on Sep 2, 2009 10:41 PM EDT reply actions

or how about gegard the samurai mousasi, kind of like like ninja hua and shogun hua

by pandaboy99 on Sep 2, 2009 11:01 PM EDT reply actions

“Shogun” is awesome by the way. If we go with japanese nickname I’m sure “geisha” is up for grabs.
