WE ARE LIVE!
Seven total fights, Schiavello and Mezger giving us the call. I don't mind Mezger too much, he just sort of has a loss of words from time to time. LOL! "Finished him quicker than Kanye West with a bottle of Grey Goose!".
Kruck interviewing Sylvia: "Thanks for reminding me of that Ron, I appreciate it." - On Mercer
Jimmy Siepel (1-0) vs. Bob Tuttle (1-0)
Tuttle comes out to Papa Roach, Siepel comes out to Michael Jackson - Billie Jean, but fails to dance. Manhoef would have KO'd this guy for not dancing. Big staredown...
Round 1: Tuttle rushes in with a kick and a few looping punches, Siepel counters to the clinch and throws down Tuttle with a massive throw. Siepel passes to side mount. Tuttle working to regain the guard and gets out of side mount. Tuttle turns and gives his back. Siepel has sunk in the hooks and is unloading punches. Siepel looks to be working for the rear naked choke, he has it! And... Tuttle gets out of it and turns onto all fours once again. Frank Mir would have said it was over minutes ago.
Siepel is on his back looking to punch, but remains on his back landing virtually nothing. Seriously, what is he doing? Looks for the choke once again with his back on the fence... TUTTLE TAPS! Camera turns to some women in the crowd who are disappointed that Tuttle lost... really?
Jimmy Siepel wins via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) @ 2:59 of Round 1.
Up next is Reiner vs. Petz...
Chad Reiner (19-8) vs. Forrest Petz (13-7)
Round 1: Reiner comes out instantly with the Muay Thai clinch and knees, Petz avoids the takedown. Petz counters with overhand rights, looking for the knockout blow. Reiner is countering, but then tries to pull guard on Petz. Mezger thinks Reiner is hurt, but he seems alright. Fight hits the feet again. Reiner clinches, pushes Petz into the cage, backs off. Reiner is now flopping to the floor, gets back to his feet, gets the clinch again with knees. Petz is peppering Reiner with shots, and he looks like he's getting tired already. Reiner looks completely gassed already, this is bad.
Petz is loading up his hands, looking for the knockout... BOOOOM! Crushes Reiner with a left jab, overhand right that lands on the button. Reiner eats a few ground strikes, referee moves in to stop the bout.
Forrest Petz defeats Chad Reiner via TKO @ 2:28 of Round 1.
Joe Vedepo (9-2) vs. Webster Farris (1-0)
Farris apparently had so much vaseline on, they had to rub it off... and now they can't find any. Now they're taping up his gloves some more... Come on!
Round 1: WOW!!! Joe Vedepo lands a BRUTAL right hand dead on the chin/face after a brief exchange. Webster is down... looks to be potentially seizing, or just shaking trying to get up. Completely out cold.
Joe Vedepo defeats Webster Farris via KO @ 0:14 of Round 1
Alonzo Martinez (23-10) vs. Ryan Williams (10-4)
Alonzo has his own entourage and rapper for his entrance... problem, Adrenaline continues to play 3 Doors Down over the PA. Fail. Schiavello, LOL... "Queen to rook 7" commenting on the hairdo.
Round 1: Alonzo comes out with some combinations, Williams counters, but Alonzo is brawling more. Williams with a solid left hook, Williams backs off. Williams shoots, but fails, works to the fence, and the fighters separate. Alonzo continues his jabbing, throws a quick knee the connects. Williams is bloody now, looks like his nose. Williams goes for a takedown with a single leg, but Alonzo is punishing Williams with hammerfists for his efforts. Alonzo has now sprawled completely and back to standing. Alonzo continues to outpunch Williams, but Williams lands a nice shot. "Ryan Willians taking more shots than a diabetic!" - Schiavello. Williams gains top control after a missed takedown attempt from Alonzo. Williams in now in Alonzo's guard landing blows. Alonzo tries to push Williams out, but he maintains. Williams now gains side control, but he isn't doing too much with this better positioning. Goes for full mount, can't get it, and Alonzo reverses. Alonzo now in side mount, drilling Williams with left hands. Williams gains full guard but gets rattled with more blows. BloodyElbow.com scores the round 10-9 Alonzo Martinez.
Round 2: Standing toe-to-toe, Williams grabs a leg, pushes Alonzo toward the fence. Both fighters in the clinch. Williams working some shots in the clinch, knees, body shots. Referee separates the two after action comes to a stalemate. Both fighters beginning to tire. Martinez says it was a groin shot, but looks to be an act. Martinez takes a shot from Williams, Williams goes for the shoot... gets caught in a guillotine choke, but breaks free. Martinez is beginning to fade a bit. Williams now in top control, but he's pushed off. Immediately moves to Alonzo's back, Alonzo turns and gives up side control. Alonzo turns to his back, Williams on his back punching.Williams takes the back and tries for an ugly rear naked choke. Williams once again gains top control while Alonzo goes for the guillotine. He can't sink it, and then gains top control on Williams. Williams gains full guard, but Alonzo is now putting punches on Williams. Williams works and gets the fight back to the feet. Williams immediately shoots, but fails. Alonzo's punching is at a lethargic rate now, obviously gassed. Williams gains another takedown, working some punches to Alonzo. Williams passes guard and is now in full mount. He can't seem to finish Alonzo though. Both men are dead tired. BloodyElbow.com scores the round 10-9 Ryan Williams.
Round 3: Alonzo comes out with a huge uppercut, lands it, but Williams takes it. Alonzo throws a liver shot, lands. Now he's peppering Williams with blows standing. Williams bounces off the fence and goes for the single leg. Alonzo isn't doing much to stop him, although Williams can't get him to the floor. Alonzo lands an elbow strike to escape the fence. Alonzo is throwing some solid body shots, and he's now gained top control after a takedown against the fence. Both men are completely gassed.
Williams tries for a.. triangle choke? Couldn't tell. Alonzo maintains top control while Williams tries to gain the feet. Both men roll and Williams reverses position. Williams is now in top control. Alonzo throwing upkicks and landing. Williams drops back into Alonzo's guard. Guy Mezger hates the referee. Williams really isn't doing anything in top control. Williams gets kicked up and Alonzo tries another upkick. Referee finally warns Alonzo about the upkicks.
Alonzo moves in, but is turned into the fence by Williams. Williams goes for the takedown, but Alonzo fights it off and gains top control. Martinez just won the fight in my eyes with that takedown. BloodyElbow.com scores the round 10-9 Alonzo Martinez. Great fight.
Alonzo Martinez defeats Ryan Williams via unanimous decision (29-28 by all three judges).
Jeremy Lang (15-1) vs. Matt Delanoit (13-6)
Round 1: Delanoit throwing knees in the clinch, but Lang tosses Delanoit over his hip into mount. He's already got his hooks in, in full mount on Delanoit. This does not look good for Delanoit. Lang smothering Delanoit with his chest, not really throwing any strikes. Looks like he's trying to isolater a limb for a keylock or kimura. Mezger basically says Lang is a n00b for trying it. Lang goes for an arm triangle instead, but Delanoit reverses and gets the fight back to standing. Delanoit immediately throws a couple of bombing punches. Lang stumbles back a bit, but counters with a takedown. Delanoit is now caught on his butt against the fence. Lang looking to scoot him to his back completely. Delanoit gets up and out of danger, throws some more leather. Lang gets hit a few times, but Lang counters with some jabs. Delanoit is being ragdolled by Lang against the fence, and Lang immediately throws a barrage of punches. Lang throws Delanoit into the fence and puts him to the ground. Delanoit works for a triangle, misses, and is now in his control. Delanoit catches Lang in a kimura, but he can't quite get it. Very close. Lang is now in side control... nothing. BloodyElbow.com scores it 10-9 Jeremy Lang.
Round 2: Delanoit lands a stiff right, some more punches... Lang shoots for the takedown. Lang is now in top control on the floor, Delanoit tries to work the rubber guard but fails. Lang in top control trying to punish Delanoit. Nothing significant here. Delanoit doing a nice job of keeping Lang's posture down. Lang now putting some good punches on Delanoit as Delanoit struggles with his head being smashed into the cage. Lang is pushed to his feet, but regains top control once again. Lang is smothering Delanoit on the floor, throwing some flurries. Referee stands the action up. Mezger doesn't get it.
Delanoit throws some sloppy combinations while Lang is obviously looking for a takedown. Lang throws a solid straight left.. and again. Lang gains the single leg, and takes down Delanoit. Lang is beginning to bore me to death with this style. He's gaining takedowns without actually doing a lot. He's now landing some big punches... but Delanoit throws up an armbar attempt. Lang picks up Delanoit and slams him into the canvas. Lang now in side control with Delanoit smashed into the fence/canvas. Round ends. BloodyElbow.com scores it 10-9 Jeremy Lang.
Round 3: Mezger hints that Iowa is a different planet in judging... Delanoit throws a power punch to start, catches Lang, Lang counters with a takedown attempt but eats some more punches. Lang tries again for the takedown, and puts Delanoit to the mat. Lang looks to be trying to rest on the bottom. Lang is now whispering sweet nothings into Delanoit's ear... it's possible they are working out post-fight dinner plans. Lang gains full mount after 20-30 seconds of doing nothing, but he can't even mount up. Delanoit gains half guard after Lang failed to land blows. Lang now into side control, still hugging Delanoit more than actually punching. If you want a description of lay n' pray, here it is. Lang goes for a north-south positiion and loses it. Delanoit runs away, then gets chased down and taken down. Referee stands fight up, HOOORAY!
Delanoit kicks to the body, lands a right hook to the body and left hand to the head. Delanoit lands some more blows, and Lang is cut badly. Not enough time for Delanoit to do any more damage, but I think Delanoit steals the round with those blows. BloodyElbow.com scores the round 10-9 Matt Delanoit.
Jeremy Lang defeats Matt Delanoit via split decision (30-27 Lang, 29-28 Delanoit, 30-27 Lang)
Houston Alexander (8-4) vs. Sherman Pendergarst (11-13)
Round 1: Here we go! Fighters feeling each other out. Sherman goes for a punch while Houston kicks at his leg, Sherman stumbles a bit. They reset. Houston with another leg kick, and Sherman shoots at Houston's third kick. Sherman stands back up. Leg kicks are brutal, and Sherman is hurt now. He hurt. Sherman is obviously hurt badly. Houston kicks again, Sherman is hurt. Houston comes at Sherman, and begins beating Sherman relentlessly. It's over! Sherman looked bad.
Houston Alexander defeats Sherman Pendergarst via TKO @ 1:51 in Round 1
Tim Sylvia (24-5) vs. Jason Riley (6-1)
Round 1: Sylvia and Riley immediately exchange with missing blows. Sylvia is throwing some jabs, hitting Riley. Nothing major, but Riley backs off. Sylvia smothers him into the fence, and Sylvia is now working strikes in the clinch. More clinch striking, Sylvia moves off the fence and tries to land a knee. Sylvia is landing a lot in the clinch, Riley is going to tire at this rate of beating. More jabs from Sylvia, stalking Riley. Riley throws an overhand. BOOOOM! Sylvia throws a glancing overhand left that drops Riley like a ton of bricks. It's over.
Tim Sylvia defeats Jason Riley via TKO @ 2:32 of Round 1

Houston vs Sherman
ought to be a pudknocker.
We’ll see if Sylvia actually trained for this one. When you blimp up like he did for Mercer it’s harder and harder to get back in shape.

I was with him on Friday, he didn’t look as big (fat) so we shall see.
Be a man, not a child-Phil Anselmo
I’d still feel a lot better if he could get back into the neighborhood of 265. He needs to do that to get in the UFC or SF, and I wouldn’t see anything wrong with either of them telling him to win a fight at 265 before signing him.
I think getting back down there is necessary before he’s taken seriously again.
For sure...
But in reality he always cut down to get to that weight. He never walked at 265. I totally agree that he should be making a statement and come into this fight at 265.
Be a man, not a child-Phil Anselmo
I thought you were referring to weigh ins. I get that he’s bigger than 265 around fight time.
It would be hard, but it would really show he’s dedicated and in shape if he got down there and hung around there for a while just to prove he still has the desire.
286
On his frame (6’8) shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Roy Nelson carries that at 6’
" Tell me something Steve, How does a guy from Puerto Rico loose a ball in the Sun? "
Houston said that Joe Silva is trying to get him on the 107 card. The only reason he took this fight was to avoid ring rust and to make Omaha feel better after the Schafer fight.

I can’t wait for this. It should be a pretty good crowd tonight, and it’ll be ridiculously loud for Houston, no matter what happens in that fight. Plus, the chance to see Sylvia get ktfo makes it worth the price of admission, in my book.
There are some other pretty good local guys on the card, too — watch for Alonzo Martinez. He’s an exciting lightweight — saw him come out once for a local event doing the Hannibal Lecter on a moving cart thing, but he can back it up in the fight. Reiner’s been in the UFC before, too. Vedepo is pretty popular around here — I think he fought on the Omaha Fight Night card.
Really excited to see this tonight. I’d try to liveblog something from the arena if I could figure it out.
Mark it down:

All you Tim haters can eat one...
I hope that in what ever career you are in (mcdonalds, burger king, janitor) that you hit a slump too. Of course a lot of you couldn’t get any lower on the food chain so it’s not even possible. Tim has been training out of his normal camp for this fight. It’s should be interesting to say the least. As a mma fan, I wish him and all the fighters well. Especially Sherm, this is the biggest fight of his career to date, someone is going to sleep. It’s funny cuz Sherm bounces at a local bar on the weekends and tonight he’s fighting on HDnet. I hope to be back for the live blog so you can all make fun of me for rooting for Tim.

I’ve never been much of a Sylvia fan, and I know I’ve taken my fair share of potshots at him, but I really hope that he swings around and even if he isn’t a world-beater anymore, isn’t the laughing stock of the MMA scene anymore. His problems seem to be more mental than physical, because he’s got many KOs to his career. If he’s out of his normal camp, maybe that’ll help – his recent plodding jab-jab-jab style isn’t going to further his career. Best of luck to him.

I realize he does some things that not everyone agrees with, but my problem with it is when people attack him as a person. I have never seen him turn down taking pics with fans or signing an autograph. Trust me, every where he goes he still gets mobbed by “fans”. As for people saying he is a boring fighter and such, it’s all a matter of opinion of fighting boring or smart…As a friend and a fan of his I would love to see him get back the confidence and into the shape he was in when he fought Nog.
Be a man, not a child-Phil Anselmo
I definitely wish him the best
that being said, I am interested in Riley as a prospect.
May the better man win.

"I’m ready, yeah, I’m so ready. I would have taken this fight for free. This is my chance to show who I am. I’m going to introduce myself to the entire MMA community tomorrow night at Tim’s expense," Jason Riley told HDNet exclusively today.
At 6’5" and 265lb, the "Juggernaut" is an imposing figure and will only give away three inches in height to Sylvia. Strangely enough, at a glance, Riley even looks a little like Sylvia – but that’s where the comparisons end.
"I haven’t seen (Sylvia) yet here in Iowa. I’ll see him at the weigh in. I met him once a couple of years ago at the Arnold Classic. He was a total dick."
Riley anticipates tomorrow night’s main event like a giddy kid looking forward to Christmas. He knows a loss for Sylvia at the unknown hands of the "Juggernaut" could put effectively end the former UFC champion’s career.
"Oh yeah, I know that. He’s in a bad position and I’m in a win-win situation. Sylvia can ‘t afford to lose to me, especially not after his last fight where he got knocked out cold by a fifty year old boxer. I mean that was embarrassing man. I’m going to go in there and finish him, finish his career. I’m going to stand, trade, pick him off and knock him out."

My one bit of advice for Houston:
Stop wearing those stretchy shorts. He’s always pulling at them during the fight, they are obviously not comfortable, and it distracts him.

When the fight begins, rush in and truck Tim Sylvia with your best punch. Then, walk away, because you just beat a former UFC heavyweight champion.

was Houston let go by the UFC? Or is he still under contract with them and the’re letting take a fight in another org?
He’s still under contract, they have had some match making issues with him, so he’s doing this in the meantime. Joe Silva is trying to get him on the 107 card in December.

What weight is Houston fighting at?
Last time I saw Sherman, he was getting tossed around the cage by Shane Carwin at a very fat 300+ lbs.

Sherman was attempting to cut to 205, I have no idea where he actually weighed in at though. Houston’s a natural 215-220 guy.

how come the ufc doesn’t do stats like that?
"Negative, negative. I gotta stay lean and lightning and ready to fight." Capt. H.M. Murdock
i’m indifferent on them.
It would be nice if the UFC offered something, but just shouting out the stats in the middle of the fight (or in between rounds even) with no context seems silly to me.
It’s not like other sports with built in down time and they need somethign to talk about, there’s usually enough action to keep the announcers occupied.
Because MMA is decided in a ring/cage/octagon, not on a calculator.
