MMA Event Headed to Baltimore, Maryland
Set the date, East Coasters.
John Rallo, head instructor of the Renzo Gracie affiliate: Ground Control, brings to Baltimore,MD what has taken way too long to acquire; Great fights in a highly MMA-underserved area.
Initially, Rallo was the one to bring MMA up to legislators, and with enough persistance his efforts proved fruitful.

Now comes the payoff. Only issue is, this could be the last event if we don't get enough support. SHOGUN fights features a TON of local and national talent, and its right by the Inner Harbor so accommodations are easy to come by. So for all of you BE members in MD/VA/DC area and onwards, I hope to see you there October 24th.
Check out the SHOGUN FIGHTS website here
In related news, Ground Control's Owings Mills, MD location will be hosting Matt Serra for a Saturday-afternoon seminar on September 26th. For anyone interested, check out the Owings Mills academy's website:
And no, I'm not getting paid for this. I'm just a student there, and I figured there would be some people on here who get excited by this news.

I'd love to go
But it’s the same night as the Shogun/Machida fight. :(
I'm the kind of girl who loves to watch a GOOD fight!

What awful planning.

Well with it being pretty much a one-man production company...
…It cant just jump off bigtime immediately. But I can guarantee 5 of the fights to be awesome, one of them being Binky Jones (was in EliteXC), one of them being an undefeated pro boxer making his mma debut (Mike Pascall), a few amazing wrestlers…
Plus our school puts out pretty great grapplers for being relatively new, with a handful of them goin to PanAms coming up

the point i was trying to make before getting ADD..
.. is that if there is enough support to this opening event, the cards will undoubtedly get better

I understand its a new show. I will give it the time it needs to grow, but Binky Jones is not really a good main event. He is not really a prospect. He had a cup of coffee in the bigs, but he is nothing to write home about. I have a problem with Ground control hanging there hat on one guy like they tend to do. This looks very much like a camp show. I guess the same could be said for UWC to some extent seeing a lot of guys from TLI fight on there cards, but they really challenge those guys and bring in a lot of prospects from all over the place.
Also, if they need help, I would work for a cup of coffee. MMA is my charity of choice.
You should get more than a cup of coffee, considering you’re the #26 ranked Flyweight in the world.
As to your point about all the TLI guys on UWC shows, you’re right that they fight higher caliber opponents. UWC also once booked Binky Jones, and as I recall, it was a short night for my brother from another mother. But beside that, let’s be honest: the only TLI fighter sniffing the UWC main events is Mike Easton, and no one would deny that he is the one of the main draws for UWC and from a pure sporting standpoint he’s earn his spot on top. They aren’t throwing Ron Stallings out there with a cupcake as the main event, and I love Ron Stallings, but he’s not the guy on whom to hang a promotions’ hat. Neither is Binky Jones, especially if you’re running the 1st Mariner Arena, which I’m pretty sure is about twice the capacity of the Patriot Center, which UWC cannot sell out as far as I can tell.
I don’t have anything against Binky Jones, you understand, I’m just explaining some things. God bless the man for getting paid and being on top, but let’s not kid ourselves about his place in the pecking order of MMA, local or otherwise.
Speaking of Ron Stallings, he’s got a gym in Glen Burnie now. Are any of his guys fighting on this show? Hell, if he’s not booked for the 10/3 UWC, he should be fighting on this show.

I might be the tallest flyweight in the world, but right now I am fat and out of shape by my standards.
One strange thing about this promotion. I stumbled on it about a week before the website went live. One day the site was just “Shogun Fights: Coming Soon” The next day it was a full site with the ENTIRE CARD. They need help promoting this show, that is clear.
Yeah I remember you telling me about the show some time back. I see they are charging $250 for their VIP package, same as UWC. That seems like wishful thinking to me. MMAC charge $100 for front-row seats, best we’ve ever been to, but you have to shell out $250 for the same deal (plus an after party and what not, I suppose) for a vastly inferior card? That’s a shame. For $100, I’d probably pony up just because, but $250 is pricey for me these days.

You can get front row seats without the VIP package brother

If Binky Jones is the main event then that’s news to my ears. Im not sure where you heard that or how valid it is. And they arent building the event around him AT ALL. He’s just, unfortunately, one of the only recognizable names on the list that might ring a bell for some people. No one is confusing anyones peckin order.
Plus, His fight at UWC was 3 rounds bro. Aand dude got kneed to the nuts half a dozen times; but the fight was an amazing fight so once again, I have no idea what youre talking about.

Yea, its a strange city. Im a block away from the #1 University and #1 Hospital in the WORLD (hopkins), and I can take a 10 minute jog to govt projects where I would easily get held at gunpoint

As a resident of the county, you’re a man of impeccable taste.
GCOM is, like, one mile from my house, if that.
