Community-Driven MMA Rankings
Rankings are a central part of the MMA community.
We all know that, but we don't know who the MMA community really thinks is the best. What if the whole community could collaborate and create rankings, in real-time?
That's what I'm presenting to the MMA community with http://www.rankedmma.com. A community-based, real-time, living, rankings system.
To elaborate, every user manages their own rankings. These rankings can be shared out via a personal URL (http://www.rankedmma.com/rankings_by/ghettoiam/) or embedded in a website. Then in real-time, the rankings of each user are combined to calculate the overall "Official Rankings" for the site.
Rankedmma.com has other features as well (i.e. groups, archives, date ranges) but this the crux of the site - community-driven MMA rankings. I want to know who 10,000 people think is #1 P4P fighter in the world, not who WAMMA thinks. :)
The site is still in beta but could use some users. :) If you find bugs please let me know.
And just so you know, there is no advertising on the site. No fees. I built because I wanted to learn something and wanted to contribute to MMA online.
The FanPosts are solely the subjective opinions of Bloody Elbow readers and do not necessarily reflect the views of Bloody Elbow editors or staff.

Can’t argue with the vision. Better put my input in now, while my votes count for so much. ;)
…. ugh activation fail, I’ll try again later tonight

Only weird thing I’ve seen so far is that Martin Kampmann is listed at 185 rather than 170.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

Noted. Will fix.
I`d eventually like to give users the ability to keep the site up to date. I just don`t have the infrastructure their yet.

so it’s a popularity contest.

Aren’t all rankings a popularity contest to a certain degree?
Just BE.

I`m hoping the site will skew away from the casual fan so that (to some degree) it`ll be a meaningful popularity contest.

It will be interesting to find out what kind of rankings this will generate. At least I will find it interesting but I found it interesting the other day that on UFC.com a poll for the Huerta/Maynard fight was almost 60% in favor of Huerta winning. While on this site a poll for the very same fight was almost 70% in favor of Maynard winning. I found it interesting that the UFC’s website apparently attracts a very different audience than Bloody Elbow. So if you can combine what seems to be a wide variety of opinion from the MMA community it will be interesting to see the outcome of the rankings.
Just BE.

Pretty sure there’s already a site that does this. The rankings suck.

You think rankings suck or specifically my sites rankings suck? :)

Whatever the other site is. I guess it’s Playground from the comments.

There’s also that other one that was in the meta rankings but did shit like overturn decisions they didn’t agree with and weird stuff.

Doesn’t MMA Playground already do this?
Bolts from the Blue // "Game over." - Jamal Williams
Bloody Elbow // "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." - H.L. Mencken

Yes, MMA Playground already does this
but MMA Playground is a UI mess. I can appreciate a site with a single simple purpose.

This is cool, great work!
Folks might be pointing out redundancies with other sites, but I’ve never been to those other sites. I enjoy the personal utility of what you’ve built here though.
Thus far, the only snag I’ve hit is that Diego Sanchez is needed @ 155
by LBo on Sep 17, 2009 9:00 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Deigo Sanchez
Thanks for adding him. He’s been approved.
by ghettoiam on Sep 17, 2009 11:43 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
There is
no Jose Aldo @ 145, I don’t know if people just didn’t vote for him or whether he’s just plain missing, but he certainly should be ranked in the top 5/ 10

Aldo is @ 155
I’ll flip him to 145. Thanks.

2 more missing
Martin Kampmann at 170 and Nick Diaz at 185.

155
If you’re gonna include Varner at 155, you may as well include the superior Cerrone.
by CieloAzor on Sep 19, 2009 10:51 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
145
Joseph Benavidez. Hopefully the last one you’ll need to add. :p
by CieloAzor on Sep 19, 2009 11:00 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Whoops, no.
Raphael Assuncao at 145 also.
by CieloAzor on Sep 19, 2009 11:03 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I added Assuncaso and Benavidez
Thanks for the heads up. Just a side note, if a fighter is not in the system at all, you can add them yourself at the bottom of any page. A couple users have to approve the fighter (on the homepage) so that people don’t enter junk names… but ya.
Anyways, thanks again. I think the fighter list is about a year old so mos def some people have changed weight classes on me. :)
