Sam Stout vs. Phillipe Nover Bout Cancelled

This Fan Post was promoted to the front page by Nick Thomas.

danawhiteufc: Sam Stout was very cool during the incident and is a class act!!

That's too bad. I was looking forward to this fight. I hope everything is ok with Phillipe and that we get an update on the underlying cause of seizure. I also hope they can find Stout another fight soon.

UPDATE [from Luke Thomas]: Talk about a string of bad luck for Nover. Here's to hoping he gets the chance to build a career in the UFC.

Many times the cause is never found but the seizures are controlled by medication. Even if they can be controlled by medicine, how good of an idea can it be to take damage to an already damaged brain?

I know I’m not breaking any new ground here, but seizures are FUCKING SCARY!!

by Patrick79x on Sep 16, 2009 4:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Could be a weight cutting issue. Just a guess.

by szucconi on Sep 16, 2009 4:54 PM EDT up reply actions

For sure

Anything that throws off the brain chemistry can trigger that.

by Patrick79x on Sep 16, 2009 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions

From the UG:

seizures are a strange thing. medically we still barely understand them.

I have been providing field medicine since 1995. i have seen my share of really fucked up shit. it very rarely bothers me, which is why i am good at my job. seizures are literally the ONLY thing that always, every damn time, just creeps me out.

its a total betrayal of the body by the mind. it always makes me feel helpless. while i can usually, but not always, stop the seizure, i have little ability to attack the cause. i can “fix” the situation, but I can’t fix the problem.

and the meds that are given for these conditions are brutal…. i can totally understand why people refuse to take them.

hope he can find a way to deal/live with this.

i have compassion for most of the folks i take care of, even when its hard to care. but I usually forget their name (if I knew it at all) by the time i walk through the door at the ED and get back into my truck. for some reason a SZ patient always sticks with me alot longer than i would like.

TTT for nover, hope he finds a path that will work for him

Yes He Was...

I don’t think he should be fighting until they get all that analyzed.

That was my first thought as well. I hope he’s alright and it’s nothing life changing for him.

Shitballs. Hope he’s ok. Had money on Nover.

by szucconi on Sep 16, 2009 4:25 PM EDT reply actions

damn. tough break for those guys. hopefully it’s nothing serious.

by woooburn on Sep 16, 2009 4:26 PM EDT reply actions

Damn, that sucks for Nover. Hope all turns out well for him.

by MMAEruption on Sep 16, 2009 4:26 PM EDT reply actions

Sad. Hope he is ok and hope this doesn’t affect his career

by SplitBreast on Sep 16, 2009 4:32 PM EDT reply actions

Wow, I have been checking sites all day because I had a feeling something would be cancelled.

Sucks for Nover…hope everything is cool.

This BLOWS! I wanted to see this fight. I hope he is ok.

Given his history on TUF, it seems like Nover’s body is highly sensitive to dehydration. If this most recent incident is also related to dehydration, maybe it’s time for him to take a cue from Houston Alexander and fight at his natural weight.

I have no problem with weight-cutting as long a guy can do it safely. But it seems like Phillipe is endangering his health any time he dehydrates himself.

What happened with Houston?

Houston is fighting in lesser leagues hoping to get back in the UFC.

Houston is still in the UFC.

Zuffa gave him their official Okey-doke for taking a fight outside of the UFC.

by Steve4192 on Sep 16, 2009 6:17 PM EDT up reply actions

That part I knew. Your reference to natural weight was what confused me

by woomikee on Sep 17, 2009 10:48 AM EDT up reply actions

Nothing happened to him

He just doesn’t cut weight because it would medically unwise for a guy with one kidney to put it under that kind of stress.

by Steve4192 on Sep 16, 2009 6:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Right. That makes many senses.

Hey, does anybody knows how it works on MMA playground when one of the fighters of your parlay don’t fight?

You don't look like a Tanaka.

by spectaa on Sep 16, 2009 5:07 PM EDT reply actions

they remove that fighter from your parlay and you then have a two fight parlay. It not the same payout as it would have been.

by szucconi on Sep 16, 2009 5:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Ok thanks

You don't look like a Tanaka.

by spectaa on Sep 16, 2009 5:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Damn. I had him in a parlay and in a straight bet.

Then that leaves an opening for me. I had a small amount on him straight, but not in my parlay.

by szucconi on Sep 16, 2009 6:00 PM EDT up reply actions

I had Stout in my parlay.

I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

Well geez Eugene, sorry Nover fucked up your day, I’ll make sure he apologizes when he comes to.

Something he should take into account next time.

Scary stuff. Hopefully he’s okay. Nover really should get a propper look at that before he ever tries to fight again.

I love me some Sexyama!

damn! i had nover on a huge parlay. gotta change it now!. hopefully nover is fine. this could be a sign :)

by bdw on Sep 16, 2009 5:11 PM EDT reply actions

Damn

I hope my Filipino brotha is alright. Seizures are no fun for anyone. I’ve seen two in my life and I could definitely go without seeing any for the rest of my life, especially someone close to me going through one. You just gotta let them ride it out and wait until they come to. It sucks

by GetItOn on Sep 16, 2009 5:20 PM EDT reply actions

Hope is he ok

As a fellow Filipino, I root for Nover everytime he fights, hopefully this isn’t serious.

by filipinomix2oo0 on Sep 16, 2009 5:25 PM EDT reply actions

I’m just glad something like this didn’t happen in a fight, that would be scary stuff.

by Zack Gobie on Sep 16, 2009 6:26 PM EDT reply actions

does Sam still get any money when the fight is cancelled the day before?

by Joselana on Sep 16, 2009 7:00 PM EDT reply actions

They don’t have to but Dana is usually pretty cool when stuff out of a fighter’s control like this happens, he’ll probably get paid.

Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.

by ufc4 on Sep 16, 2009 8:49 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Not good, I hope he’s alright.

Does anyone know how this will affect an MMA Playground parlay?

by brad23 on Sep 16, 2009 7:43 PM EDT reply actions

See above

Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.
