TUF 10: The Ultimate Fighter Live Discussion (Episode 1)
First they announced Rampage and Rashad as coaches. Then we heard about a bunch of NFL monsters. Roy Nelson's gut butted in, and we all thought we had our big news. That is until we got wind of some guy named Kimbo Slice.
We've waited just over three months since the news came out, and here we are with the most anticipated season of the Ultimate Fighter's. We've already gotten a chance to see Rampage and Rashad jawing at each other and the contestants first reactions to Kimbo being a housemate. If that doesn't get you pscyhed for the next thirteen weeks, you may want to catch Jay Leno's abysmal "new" show.
We've already seen Brendan Schaub voice his displeasure with Kimbo's involvement. Will anyone take to Kimbo right away (outside of Rampage)? Will Rashad and Rampage get along? And who will fight in the inaugural preliminary bout?
After watching the sneak peek again, I'm absolutely pumped.

I interviewed Jonathon Chaimberg this past Friday and he confirmed that Rampage and Rashad do not get along and in fact the hatred between the two is very real.
I am excited to see this season!!

And it would’ve been great to see the fight in December. Now it might turn out to like Serra/Hughes. Pushed back too long to the point where the payoff/fight wasn’t as fresh/meaningful.
people keep saying this, but that fight still did big numbers.
Serra/Hughes was not the ideal situation, but it’s not the end of the world that people are making it out to be, same thing here.
Any luster lost by not having the fight right after the end of TUF will be more than made up when Rampage fights around the time the movie is released
After Fight Night 19, that starts at 5pt/8et

I appreciate the humility.
Was a little miffed at the special intro for Kimbo, but Kimbo actually looks nervous. At the least, he’s not cocky at all.
Anyone think Jackson is going to pick Kimbo first?

he lost his shit. My favorite quote from that was:
“This country needs to be more positive,” he said. "We’re already at war. We’re in a recession, we’re at war and we continue to be negative. The fans in the UK showed me more love than in my own country. That’s crazy … Sometimes I’ll sit back, I’ll be in my theater sometimes, and I’ll think: ‘Imagine if I was the same fighter that I am, and I was the same person that I am, and I was from another country. Can you just imagine how big I’d be?’

I also agree with that poster who said that Kimbo never said he was the best, awesome, or whatever….
And also just what the fuck is Schaub’s problem? Why don’t you go up to Kimbo’s face and tell him what you just said(“fuck him”)?? Congrats, Schaub. You have now entered my shit list.

Sadly..
If you were bored by last night’s actual fight on the show.. This is probably going to be more of the norm for a few fights.. These are all HW’s here.. One indication is the clip from Rampage’s team doing a cardio exercise.. Marcus Jones, who is the biggest and most intimidating looking of the show gassed really quick.. He’s got a lot of power, but no gas in his tank. He also hasn’t done well taking punches to the face..
Most of these guys are not well rounded. Outside of Roy Nelson, we can’t say for sure how most of the guys will do when actually pushed outside their element in a fight..
8-29-09
Keith Jardine is now known as "The Dean of Antihistamine" because he is always sleeping early in fights..
Rampage SUCKS as a coach.
Dan Henderson gives him a run as worst TUF coach ever, but Rampage appears to be just as bad again this time as the first time. He clearly picked guys exactly like he said — because of how big or intimidating they “look” instead of because of their actual strengths. His coaching appears to be to have them do some calisthenics and then put them in there and work on swinging for the fences and advising them to just “smash” or “knock out” their opponents. During the fights, his advice last time, and again this time, seems limited to “get up” and “do SOMETHING” instead of anything constructive at all. AND, last time he actually missed one of his guys’ fights entirely — remember that? — and this time he walks out during the first fight. Great coaching there.
Rashad may not be much of a coach — hard to tell so far — but with Greg Jackson on his team, those guys are actually going to get some development and get some meaningful advice during fights. Rampage’s team is going to be left to fend for themselves, again.
The guy might be comedic gold — but it’s a damn shame for every single one of the guys on his team that they have to have him as their “coach” for this opportunity to get into the UFC. Fun to laugh about all his very witty comments, but also easy to lose sight of that not at all being what this experience is supposed to be about for these guys.
When did Rampage miss one of his guys’ fights? Wasn’t that just Bisping?
Agreed that he’s a bad coach and gives poor in-fight advice. Maybe he doesn’t care if his team wins or loses? Maybe he’ll just use that as more reason to “smash” Rashad?

You’re right — that was Bisping that did that. My memory was screwed on that one. Good catch.
Still think he sucks as a coach, though.
Curses. That was in response to MMAInFeRioRiTy.

For those saying Rampage sucks as a coach, Rashad isn’t much better. It’s all Greg Jackson for Rashad’s team. They’ll show clips of Rashad saying something but that team’s success is based on the advice that they get from Greg Jackson.
We’ll never see two coaches again like Mir and Nogueira. They actually knew how to coach. Mir might be a douche but at least he could coach.
